Benjamin Stone on playing Finnick Odair in Catching Fire
The “who should play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire” debate continues. There are a LOT of Hunger Games fans that think Benjamin Stone would be great in the role. He was asked about that in a recent interview. He doesn’t say a lot, mostly as he hasn’t read the books, but you may as well check it out.
For those that need a bit of an update on who Benjamin is, he was born in Surrey in the UK and is best known for playing Blank in the ABC Family TV series “10 Things I Hate About You”.

EVERY HUNGER GAMES SITE Online is saying DANIEL NEWMAN has been CAST As FINNICK ODAIR!?!?! Is this true? He does Look Exactly like Finnicks description and Gorgeous. But I’ve only seen him on The Vampire Diaries?
Jen, that was a rumor (see our post here – http://www.myhungergames.com/daniel-newman-finnick-odair-catching-fire). At one point he was listed on IMDB as Finnick but IMDB, like Wikipedia, is edited by users – it was likely either a mistake or a wishful thinking fan. NO casting has been announced yet.

We don’t know who’s playing any of the roles in Catching Fire yet …and probably won’t for ages, but Maggie Smith (the woman who played McGonagall) is a brilliant actress.
I think he would be good for Finnick.

According to the book, Finnick was 14 when he played in the 65th hunger games and won. So for the 75th hunger games that would make him about 24. What does it matter anyhow, what age they are for real? Jennifer is playing an awesome 16yr old and she is like 22 or something. And Josh is playing 16yrs old too and hes 19; although Josh has that young look to him as it is, so it wouldnt matter. Just the same though, this is going to be a great movie regardless. Loved the books and the movie!!!
Alex Pettyfer is great for Finnick…. young enough and good looking enough and Mags was more like a mother figure to him as I read it.,.. so maggie Smith would work well together… just hope they don’t have to carry her for a long time….

ALEX PETTYFER. IF HE WAS NOT FINNICK, I SWEAR I WOULD DIE. Like I told my friend, he’s got all the finnick qualities! The muscular build, the dashing charm, the hotness. Just dye his hair red, put him in a fishnet and give him a trident, he’s good to go!
Not that he isn’t attractive (he is totally my type), but not what I had in mind. He is to “lean” to fit the part If anything I picture a Bradley Cooper type….he needs to have a little more muscle to survive such a strenuous situation. He is to much of a “pretty boy”…

NO!, finnick should be a bit older, around 35, should be very muscley aswell, he would probably be great in 5-10 years but right now he’s too much of a pretty boy, finnick should look older and more stressed after what hes been through.
I’m sure they can make him look stressed… and isn’t finnick supposed to be 24? Somehow getting an actor who’s more than a decade older than him doesn’t seem right…

But seriously he has to be X times infinity cuter then liam and josh . [Gale and Peeta] P.S. Pettyfer wouldn’t be very good ,I just don’t see him developing that type of character,needed. They’ll probably go for someone lesser known.

MATT BARR. Was watching the Hatfields & MCcoys on the history channel and when I saw him, he was exactly what I imagined Finnick Odair to look like when I was reading the book. Please do not cast Daniel Newman or Benjamin Stone as finnick……not the right look. Finnick should be unbelievably good looking, strong, tall and well. Look up Matt Barr. Nooooo! Chace Crawford is perfect for Finnick. Not only can he be cocky, but he also has the pretty boy look(though I would say he is very HANDSOME). HE IS MUSCULAR AND HAS THE ATHLETIC BODY. Well to be onist I think that he does look good looking and is beautiful! also hes a good actor so I think Its a good thing he should play. Benjamin is my EXACT picture of Finnik even before I knew Benjamin existed! He has the body type, the has the sweet, intelligent look to his face, I can see him divin into the water, saving people and fiddling with his peice of rope like always, PERFECT! I can see it all now, and I would cast him in a blink of an eye! I have seen him act and after reading the books he would act those scenes perfectly with no flaws, it’d be like Finnik jumping out of the book and onto the screen!!!
