Maggie Smith would really do a great job as Mags! Probably isn’t going to happen because she is so famous and all, but I know I would love for it to be her

Rosemary Harris from the Spiderman movies seems like a decent fit for mags, but really, I think a more unknown actor would work a lot better. Someone who isn’t too famous, yet fits the same portrait that mags portrays and has experience in the acting field.
I kind of imagined her as a skinny frail old lady with dark hair I think someone like vanessa redgrave could do it

Betty White or Maggie Smith are my top 2. I am leaning a little more towards Betty though.
my concern is that Maggie Smith might not be able to cope with the physical demands of The Hunger Games..
given that, she might not even be a candidate to play Mags at this point.
Vanessa Redgrave is my pick-she looks like a Mags to me
Both Finnick and Katniss carry Mags during the games. Therefore, Mags has to be small. That rules out most actresses immediately. Can you see Jennifer Lawrence throwing Betty White over her shoulder? Yeah, thought not. I was thinking about the actress that played Debra’s mom in Everybody loves Raymond: Katherine Helmond. She’s tiny and an accomplished actress. She’d be perfect.
Yes i most of theses women are big. I think its just going to be an old actress that nobody really knows. Because you don’t have to be amazing to play mags. She barely talks. All one would have to do is walk, swim, smile, and then die
Seriously guys?! Betty White isn’t serious enough!! She’s too goofy!! Maggs is supposed to represent and 80 year old woman barely able to stand on her own… Betty White looks in her 70′s and can actually walk on her own. I vote for Ellen because she is who I pictured Maggs being.
I think that no one who is reading these books knows who Carol Channing is. Honestly I think if given the chance she would make an awesome Mags. She has the frailty of body that I envisioned and she is just a little bizare looking as I had immagined. She has the most unusual voice as that would make the character more interesting too. I remember her well from 70′s TV and I can tell you that she would be wonderful.
I always pictured Lois Smith as Mags whilst reading Catching Fire but I don’t know if I’d be able to watch her die a second time as she did in [SPOILERS [True Blood]]. ;-;
Someone who doesn’t look like they’ve had work done! Meryl Streep is GORGEOUS – but she doesn’t look her age. Mags should look like an older woman.
Lois Smith all the way. She’d nail the whole *sacrificing herself so Annie doesn’t have to go back in The Games and again, so Peeta and Katniss can survive* thing.
She might be cut out of the film, her character isn’t really big enough, like Madge was cut out of the first film

betty white maybe vanessa redrave they’d both be able to pull the whole sacfice thang but the couldn’t cut her she still too big to cut because sombody has to go instead of annie and die so johanna can yell at katniss and finnick can dunk her into the water

Betty White really suits the role! When it comes to Mags, I think you basically just have to go for the looks. Mags doesn’t talk much at all – just hobbles around, occasionally mumbling something; so the actress just needs to look the part. Meryl Streep, for instance, looks too young for Mags. The same goes for Maggie Smith somehow.
BETTY WHITE will be purfect {my opinion}
I think Sissy Spacek would be great, however, I have a feeling that Mags will more than likely be an unknown or little known actress, and probably a bit younger and made up to look more like the characters’ actual age of around 80.

I always picture Betty White as Mags. Is that just me?
I could maybe see Meryl Streep playing Coin, but not Mags. Streep seems to have the prowess to pull of the leader of 13. A role that is almost entirely silent would be a waste of her talent and money that it would take to attach her to the project.

Ruby Dee would be perfect. She’s the right age, a great actress, and tiny just as Mags is supposed to be (158 cm and thin). Many of these actresses are either not old enough, or too tall (Vanessa Redgrave) or too big. And Betty White is all wrong, Mags is not a comedy character.

I’ll be honest. NONE of them look like how I pictured Mags in my head. And none of them look like the drawn pic of Mags at the top. That’s just my opinion.
Man, I love Betty White, so she should be Mags or cloris Leachman. I think Myrel Streep should be president Coin.
