Catching Fire casting is set to really get going now. Lionsgate has just announced Amanda Plummerhas been cast as Wiress!

Santa Monica, CA, July 17, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. The character’s eccentricity earns her the nickname “Nuts” from fellow tributes, and though she doesn’t communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell.
Best known to film going audiences from her memorable and award nominated roles in THE FISHER KING and PULP FICTION, Plummer is also a beloved, Tony Award® winning stage actress on and off Broadway. She can next be seen as the title character in the forthcoming film ABIGAIL HARMS.
Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.

When folks were suggesting all these young people I didn’t understand as Wiress is to be in her 50′s and Beetee in his 60′s. They were PAST winners of the Hunger Games. Some of the suggestions I saw were 17 yr olds?

Eh…she’s a bit old for the part (and yes, yes, I know: make-up, blahblahblah, etc. But roughly 25 years older than the character is kind of pushing it.) She’s a good actress though, so I’m sure she can pull it off.
Except in Catching Fire there are winners of previous editions coming in to the arena, so we see people 50 or 60 years old, even Mags who’s around 80. Catching Fire has adult tributes, not kids.
…except Wiress is about 30 years old, which is STILL an adult. (The actress is 55, btw)
I think you may need to revisit CF. You have made Wiress much younger than she is in the book. Amanda Plummer will be perfect! AND she is in the age range for Wiress.
No, I didn’t. Pretty sure Katniss describes her as looking in her 30′s. Amanda is 55. 55 – 30 = 25 years difference. >_>
Nevermind, I was a bit off. She is roughly the same as Mrs. Everdeen, so 40′s. 15 years is still pretty significant. BUT like I said, she will do a good job because she’s a good actress.
Seeder was in her 60′s but still looks strong, Chaff and Brutus are in the 40′s , Beetee was in his late 50′s/early 60′s, Wiress was around the same age as Beetee,..And on page 184, Katniss says, ‘Adjusting for age, I realize some of our opponnets may be elderly, which is both sad and reassuring.’ Meaning, most of the opponnents are NOT the age of Peeta and Herself. Then there is that Haymitch did not want them (Peeta / Katniss) to be escorted down to training by Effie as he did NOT want to bring to attention of opponnents that they are the youngest tributes. On the Younger side is Finnick and Johanna. And they are in their mid and late twenties. Cecelia is in her late thirties with 3 young children.
I never said she was the same age as Peeta and Katniss…ohmygoodness. -_-
Awesome! Does anyone know if Jena Malone has been officially confirmed for Johanna? I wonder if she’ll be calling Beetee and Wiress “Nuts” and “Volts” in the movie. (: Nice touch if so!

jena has been cast as joanna officaily i think and i allso thinkshe will be good for the part i allways imagened bettee and wiris as 40 -60 year olds so shes perfect x
