Catching Fire Casting Rumor: Zoe Aggeliki in talks for Johanna Mason role

Zoe Aggeliki being considered for Johanna in Catching Fire?

The strongest Catching Fire casting rumor over Johanna Mason so far is that  model/actress Zoe Aggeliki has auditioned for the part.  Playlist had her down as being considered along with Mia Wasikowska (who has now been completely ruled out) , but adding fuel to the fire is that Deadline is now reporting that  Zoe is is not only the  front-runner but is currently in talks.

Looks like we might have a Hunger Games winner. Zoe Aggeliki has the edge over Jena Malone for a role in Lionsgate‘s The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. Aggeliki and Malone (Sucker Punch) are up for the part of Johanna Mason, an ax-welding, deceptive and ruthless winner of a previous Hunger Games in the sequel film. However, sources say model-actress Aggeliki is the one in the most serious talks after both auditioned for director Francis Lawrence. Aggeliki has roles in the upcoming R.I.P.D. and another sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters.

Still no word from Lionsgate, so it’s still really just a rumor,  but I can see her as Johanna.

Huh. Doesn’t look like a 25 yr old that’s been through the hell of a Hunger Games to me. She looks 15.

Also, wondering how on earth she will ever pull off that she can handle 1 axe, let along 2.

She’s beautiful, but let’s keep it real! She doesn’t look hard edged and experienced. Johanna needs maturity of life experience that this girl doesn’t look like she has.

    • Rainy says:

I completely agree with you, not to mention her lips kinda annoy me, I mean she is beautiful, but if she plays her, that will be the only thing I look at, it will be very distracting during important scenes.

    • your kiss is on my list... says:

Stop being so judgemental. No one liked Jennifer and she turned out amazing. just relax. We don’t get a say anyways.

    • em says:

i totally agree. i think jena malone would do a good job as johanna mason- and i can picture her wielding an axe and having gone through the hunger games. (as she was in that really violent movie sucker punch… that helped me picture her as johanna)

  2. Catnip says:

She needs to look way OLDER and she DOESN’T NEED to look prettier then Jennifer or Katniss!!!! She needs to look old and ugly a little lol sorry but no one in the movie needs to beat Katniss because then it would be all about Johanna! And I think I look like that girl… Whatever her name is

    • Veronica Mars says:

This comment was the most annoying thing ever

    • veronica mars says:

      You’re overthinking it.

    • RebeccaB. says:

What? Zoe is very pretty, I think. In the girly, made over sort of way. She won’t “beat” Jennifer/Katniss in terms of beauty. I believe Jennifer is far more gorgeous with and without makeup, personally—but “prettiness” has nothing to do with her overall looks and acting skills. No, I do not support the idea of Zoe getting the part, for a number of reasons if you view my comment, but Zoe isn’t ugly or old.

Jennifer is beautiful; Zoe is pretty. That’s that for me on the “The Hunger Games ‘Looks’ Scale”. I find Leven Rambin to be very pretty, too, even prettier than Zoe herself. You’re right on the older part, but everything else in your comment is pure shallow! This is Katniss’ story and Katniss’ franchise, Johanna won’t be taking Katniss’ role as The Mockingjay.

    • Jessica says:

If you truly believe that the most important message this movie should send is how important it is for the girls to look pretty then you need to sit your ass down and re-read those books. You clearly underestimate the power of make up. If she’s cast then she’s cast for a reason and that’s that.

      • Peeta rocks says:

I don’t agree with the author of this post either but please don’t use bad words and have some respect for their opinion

  3. Twilight Sucks says:

    I want Zoe Saldana.

  4. Mariah says:

I actually don’t care that much who’s gonna play Johanna.. I just wanna know who !!! :)

  5. RebeccaB. says:

She is literally a model. Doesn’t she have that Percy Jackson sequel to do in 2013, though? How is it possible for her to play a character named Silena and then Johanna? Well, I’m hoping that this is just like all the other casting rumors: untrue, no front runner(s) yet. For some reason, I doubt if that Finnick hasn’t been officially cast, that they’d have a Johanna already. And I prove to be like everyone else who finds her lips terribly distracting. I know she can’t help it, but it isn’t good to have such a distraction for some when her scenes are up. She is also far too young and innocent-looking! That just can’t do for Johanna. Especially with Johanna’s backstory, Zoe wouldn’t be believable whatsoever.

And considering that she is a model, I highly doubt she’ll shave her head for Mockingjay. I hope they don’t take the grittiness of the books out of the movies just to appeal to kids and teenagers. The Hunger Games isn’t “family friendly” and it shouldn’t be treated as such. It is about revolution, rebellion, war, terror, and slaughter. The books are incredibly violent and graphic for them to be a YA series . . . or a supposed one. I’d hate to see these movies watered down.

    • KJ says:

      Gotta agree, totally!

    • KatnissMockingjay says:

I agree on some points, but give her a chance. Sure, she wouldn’t be my first pick, but I think she’ll do alright. Zoe mustn’t be too bad if she’s got this far right?! I think she can pull it off, my only worry is that she might be too young for Johanna…

P.S they’re filming Percy Jackson 2 RIGHT NOW for the realese next year. So she’ll be able to do Catching Fire.

  6. bre says:

    LIKE
    DEFINITELY JOHANNA
    YAY CATCHING FIRE

  7. will need to age her a bit i think! x

  8. KJ says:

I don’t think she has very far to go to look like she is starving. They may want to complete the part where she returns from being caught and tortured by the Capital scenes first. Then have her get some muscle and definition.

  9. KJ says:

I REALLY could see her as a very vulnerable and ‘off’ Annie, however.

  10. laney says:

i could defenetly see her as Johanna she has that look to her that just screams hunger games

  11. Autumn says:

I’m gonna wait till the official knees because I keep getting my hopes up. :/

  12. Mark says:

I know who I would like, but that means nothing. Who they cast is who matters.

  13. KatnissMockingjay says:

She’ll be alright.I can see her being Johanna, But not my first pick, maybe she’s more a Annie Cresta…but she has this weird Victor look about her, like she actually has been through bad times, she might be way to young though.

  14. yukillofffinnick says:

pretty good! i can totally see her a johanna mason! but i would still prefer mila kunis

  15. Alexis says:

She doesn’t fit the picture in my head, but whatever. Shes close enough.

  16. I says:

    maybe!! who knows!
