Catching Fire Character Profiles: Beetee & Wiress
Beetee and Wiress, or Nuts and Volts as they are lovingly referred to, are both past victors from District 3, and both are reaped to go back into the 75th Annual Hunger Games, otherwise known as the Third Quarter Quell. District 3′s industry is Technology, therefore both Beetee and Wiress are very intelligent – which is their greatest asset.

Beetee:
Personality: Beetee is an expert in electronics. He won his first Hunger Games wiring a booby trap that electrocuted his competition. Thus earning him the nickname of ‘Volts‘ by the other victors. He was reaped to go back in to the 75th Annual Hunger Games with Katniss and Peeta. Beetee, who is still a genius with electronics, was kept alive by Johanna Mason. And though he is not particularly strong, he is respected inside and outside of the games for his mind.
Appearance: Beetee is described as having ill-fitting glasses, along with ashen skin and black hair. According to the book, he should be in his 50′s or 60′s. When he is speaking on matters other than technology, Beetee is described as nervous and twitchy.
“Tick, tock, tick, tock.” -Wiress
Wiress:
Personality: Many of the victors see Wiress as a disturbed, crazy woman. So much so she earned the nickname of ‘Nuts‘. Wiress is shy, and seldom finishes a sentence - often needing Beetee to help her communicate. However, Wiress was described by her district partner Beetee as being very perceptive. In the Third Quarter Quell, her intuition helped save her and her allies multiple times. First by showing Katniss the secret of the force shield surrounding the arena, and then the nature of the arena itself.
Appearance: Wiress is in her early 30′s at the time of the Third Quarter Quell. She, like Beetee, is described as having black hair and ashen skin.

When I pictured Beetee I pictured Paul Giamatti. For Wiress I pictured Lili Taylor.
I think it’s funny that people keep drawing them as African Americans….
Ashen skin means very light, pale skin. Not dark skin.

its weird because i for one ictured them as biracial?? even though there is no mention of that in the book
Am I the only one who pictured them as being black? I think its weird to see them as white characters
When I pictured Beeta and Wiress I imagined some tubby old people

I always pictured Steven Merchant as Beetee and Helena Bonham Carter as Wiress….not sure why but I did.
Helena bonham Carter for wiress because she is the age i think wiress should be 48 and she has the pale skin and wild black hair just like wiress and hellena is a little crazy

I can, like, so see Helena Bonham-Carter sitting on a beach murmuring ‘tick-tock’ to herself. (x
And Micheal Emerson just looks like this smart type of guy. He just has it in for the part.

For Beetee, I was acctually thinking Johnny Depp!! I mean, he can play that quirky, jittery, anxious character if you just get his skin paler and add some glasses!! Perfect! Anyone else agree??

beetee is 50 and wiress is 48 and still insane

I think Helena Bonham Carter should be Wiress and maybe Robert Downey Jr. could be Beetee.
When I was reading the book I pictured a guy in his 20s who is cute and smart. I think the guy who played Seth in beauty and the briefcase should also play beetee!
