“I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL be in the second one!!!!!!”
What do you think – Is Keke just a big fan determined to get a part in the Hunger Games sequel, or does she actually mean that she’s already been cast? If she is in Catching Fire, who do you think she would play?
The people atNY Magazine’s Vulture blog managed to catch up with Josh Hutcherson to talk to him about this latest movie, Journey 2. During their interview though, they were able to find out a bit about Josh and his propensity for pranks as well as which character he’d dress up as, if going to a Hunger Games-themed party:
He tells Vulture about his approach to playingPeeta:
“I feel like I’m a lot like Peeta, and I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t get the part. Wouldn’t I be a bad actor if I couldn’t play myself? I think one of my biggest struggles was getting Peeta to be as strong as possible. He can come across a little soft — because he’s admitting his love for Katniss, and he’s sensitive. But he’s got a backbone. He’s got strong beliefs. He’s a people person. And we have the same sense of humor.”
Vulture also put it to him that he’s a bit of a prankster:
“… on Hunger Games, I took a dummy, one that the tracker-jackers were supposed to have attacked, and I put it in Jennifer’s bathroom, and when she opened the door, she peed her pants. Or so I was told — she told me later. I did not get visual confirmation on that one. I think I’m basically a 5-year-old at heart.”
And when told that people are throwing Hunger Games parties, where they dress up as the characters (Kristen Bell had one for her 30th), Josh thinks it’s a crazy but hilarious idea, adding that if someone invited him to one, he’d go as Katniss!
Amandla Stenberg, who plays Rue in The Hunger Gamesmovie has been featured in Time Out Chicago Kids . They point out, that with a rave review from The New York Times for role in Colombiana, and now The Hunger Games about to come out, she’s an actress to keep an eye on. In fact, Rolling Stone agree. They’ve also named her as of the new faces of 2012 to watch.
In the meantime Amandla tells Time Out what it was like auditioning for the role of Rue (including her mom putting grass stains all over her clothes and twigs in her hair for added authenticity) and meeting The Hunger Games author, Suzanne Collins.
On the stunt work for Rue:
“I did some stuff. I didn’t have to do any of the hard-core stuff, but I got strapped in my custom harness. I flew around the room and jumped from tree to tree. I loved being in the harness because I felt like Peter Pan. We have some cool scenes where I’m up in the trees with Jennifer.”
On the scene where Katniss sings Rue a lullaby:
“On that day [of filming], I actually had the honor of meeting Suzanne Collins, the author. That was incredible. We talked about the scene and how Rue is trying to be brave for Katniss.… It’s really so important to everyone who worked on the movie that it stays true to the books, so that the fans are really happy with it.”
It seems The Secret Sisters aren’t all that good at keeping a secret. Lydia and Laura Rogers had revealed about a month ago that one of their new songs had been chosen to be featured on The Hunger Games soundrack. The song is called “Tomorrow Will Be Kinder”. They explained that the track fits the movie perfectly as it comes from a dark place and is about hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Haypable has managed to find this performance, which we thought you’d like to hear. Let us know what you think.
Tomorrow Will Be Kinder
Black clouds are behind me
I now can see ahead
Often I wonder why I tried
Hoping for an end
Sorrow weighs my shoulders down
And trouble haunts my mind
But I know the present will not last
And tomorrow will be kinder
Tomorrow will be kinder
It’s true, I’ve seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder
Today I’ve cried a many tear
And pain is in my heart
Around me lies a somber scene
I don’t know where to start
But I feel warmth on my skin
The stars have all the light
The wind has blown but now I know
That tomorrow will be kinder
Tomorrow will be kinder
I know I’ve seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder
Dr. Jen Scott Curwood is researching The Hunger Games and the way fans interact on the internet and wants your help.
I’m a former high school English teacher, and I’m currently a literacy researcher at the University of Sydney in Australia. I think that books are valuable – and I think that it’s important to understand how teens are engaging with literature and developing their literacy on Hunger Games-related fansites.
For the past year, I’ve talked with teens around the world. My study is ongoing, and I would love to find more research participants. If you’re between the ages of 11 and 17 and live in the United States, Canada, or Australia, will you participate in this study?
With your parents’ permission, I will talk with you over email or Skype to learn more about your passion for The Hunger Games and how you participate in fansites. Please email me atjs.curwood@sydney.edu.au for more information or to join my research. Your real name will be confidential and your privacy will be protected. I’d love to hear your story, and I think that parents and teachers could learn a lot from you.
Why is this research important? I hear a lot of people say that, “Teens don’t read” or “The Internet is a waste of time.” And I just don’t think that’s always true. Teens do read – if they have good books at hand. And the Internet is an incredible way to connect with other fans and develop literacy skills. I think that adults should know about (and care about!) how young people engage with literature and fan culture.

From Logan: This is a photo of a painting I did of Panem (from Mockingjay). This is where I think all the district’s are, I based this off of what I think a control panel in command would look like. The black lines represent railways, the circles with blue represent the rebelling districts, the red circle is the Capitol, and finally the circle with white is district 12.
From Crystal:
This is a drawing from one of my favorite parts in Mockingjay ….where Katniss sings “The Hanging Tree” song

Donald Sutherland, who plays the evil President Snow in The Hunger Games movie, was at the premiere of Josh Hutcherson’s latest movie, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Joslyn Davis of Clevver TV was able to have a quick chat with the great actor to ask him about reports that he fought for the role of President Snow and what it was like working with director Gary Ross and co-star Jennifer Lawrence.
