Daniel Newman reacts to the rumors he will play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire
There was a rumor going around that Daniel Newman was going to be playing Finnick Odair in the Catching Fire movie. His name was listed on IMDb. Hypable decided to go to the source and checked in with Lionsgate who laid the rumor to rest.
In the meantime, Daniel put out a tweet the other day to say this about the speculation!

I just read a message that supposedly the real Daniel Newman wrote on another Hunger Games website and my HEART BROKE!!! I LOVE THIS GUY after all he’s been through in with the hospital…..I Feel so bad all the press is picking on him just because he’s supposedly being considered to play Finnick when he’s not that famous. I know studios always cast big movie stars for characters we worship like FINNICK but it’s pretty cool that he answers fans messages and is so loving. Besides…COME ON… HE’s the ONLY ONE that looks EXACTLY LIKE FINNICK….I’m not surprised everyone supports him. I think Chris Hemsworth and Alex Pettyfer are gorgeous!!! But I hope Daniel gets the role.

Tbh, I don’t see Zac Efron being Finnick… I honestly think that the actor for Finnick should be older than Jennifer, Josh, and Liam in order to make up for the age gap set in the books (16-17 vs. 24). Since Jennifer is obviously a few years older than 16-17 at 22, I think Finnick’s actor should be older. Just a thought.

You know, I actually agree with you. I have never seen pettyfer before, but the minute I looked at (21) I did see Finnick. Great choice.
No no no! HE would not be a good Finnick! And neither would Zac Efferon! I personally like the idea of Ian Somerhalder, Damon who he plays on Vampire Diaries now is Finnick in vampire form! And he’s gorgeous with killer blue eyes.

Zac Efron? Seriously? Finick needs to be sexually desireable in a manly way, not a teen crush way. Not exactly what comes to mind when I think of Zac Efron.
Zac effrontery should play finnick just because we look at him as that high school musical star and that’s all we’ll see if it’s him. If the choice was mine, just pick someone that’s completely buff, just huge with muscles, big blue eyes, or whatever color, that doesn’t matter, green screen can handle that shit, and blonde hair, and he cant look young, yes get an older guy, it will look better if he does look older because 24 year olds in Hollywood look 16 ok. The guy who played Thor, Chris humfriess would be good but hey if there’s someone better out there I don’t care. Another point is its not our job to cast finnick, the pros will handle it, so we’ll see eventually who he is so calm down people, we only have to wait a year and a half til catching fire, and who ever it is, admit it we’ll all love him.

My bad, must of been in a basketball mood to say humphries, and ya I knew Chris was his older brother, I googled who would be finnick and Chris hemsworth came up and I thought it might be cool. I sticking with my point that who ever is picked to play finnick, everyone is gonna love him. But there are just some people that shouldn’t play him because we know them to well as other characters like zac effron, this Daniel Newman guy, he’s new, which means he will be just finnick odair and no one else, but some people want someone that they know, but the guy has to be buff with blonde hair and blue eyes, they also have to have that funny, not afraid of the crowd, not afraid to look stupid presence, the guy whose proud that he’s a dork. We all have to realize that catching fire doesn’t come out til November of 2013. And you tell yourself you can wait but you know you can’t. I wanna know who is gonna play the rebels, and mags, but mostly the main rebels in catching fire like Johanna, or the other ones that I can’t remember the name of right now, that will be fun to find out.

Ok I agree with everybody that Zac Efferon is so not right and when you see him all you can see is High School Musical. I do agree with Alex pettyfer though. I saw picture 21 and I though of him as Finnick And he looked perfect.

Daniel is a great actor, I would love to see a character as discussed. I’m sure he would do an excellent job! hopefully the character is from him.
