District 12 Filming Site – The Hunger Games Movie
Is this the Mellark Bakery?
One of our forum participants lives around the North Carolina area where filming of The Hunger Games movie is just about to begin. ‘JohannaFan’ wrote that the rumor around Hildebran is that they’re going to blow up one of the old mill houses at the Henry River Mill site. She wonders whether the village is The Seam or not (considering it’s not until the end of book 2 that The Seam is destroyed).
Over at fellow fansite Down With The Capitol, they’ve had reports from the area that indicate that The Henry River Mill Village is indeed District 12.
Reports continue to come in from the upcoming Hunger Games filming in the Henry River Mill Village. Much of the information we’ve heard centers around the work on the Village Store. Locals note an awning, and a porch have been added off the front, and a new report has stated a sign with the word “Pastry” can now be seen. So, it looks like we have the location of the Mellark’s Bakery!
The road leading through the village was due to be closed yesterday, with filming slated to start this Thursday.

its definitely the mellark bakery..on another site it said they ut the word bakery on it so..yah…extremely cool once the work is done!!

This pretty neat. I’m pretty happy with the movie, besides cutting Madge out (I was going to go all out fan girl and dress like for the movie premier…already pick my outfit.) So I’m excited and still totally hyped about the movie. The bakery look AWESOME!! Practically how I imagined it!! Yay!!

I agree with #1 Team Peeta
. But I am hoping they write her back in and have Anna Sophia Robb play her. She’s exactly how I envisioned Madge.
I can’t really see this as the bakery yet, maybe after it has been cleaned up without all the crap. Because I always pictued it slightly nicer.
I like that it is two stories, because I always pictured the Cakes in the window below and the counter and Mr. Mellark’s warm smile pulling bread out of the oven with his boys around him and his wife somewhere else. I also pictured it being night outside and Katniss looking up at the top floor with the lights on and the Mellarks laughing and eating bread and squirrel. I know it’s weird, I just always imagined it as that.
