E! Online’s Catching Fire Fan Cast
Now that we have a director, attention has been redirected on who should play the brand new characters in ‘Catching Fire‘. E! Online has put in their two cents and fan cast who they want to see in ‘The Hunger Games‘ sequel.
BEETEE:
Andy Serkis
People out there like: Michael Emerson, Steve Buscemi
But what about: Andy Serkis? Think about it. You know I’m right.
Dark horse contender: Doug Jones. You’ve seen him act, I am sure of it, albeit probably under a ton of makeup, in films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. But look at the face and notice a certain wonky inspiration that could make for a surprisingly sympathetic Beetee.
Or there’s always: John Malkovich.
WIRESS:
Frances McDormand
People out there like: Helena Bonham Carter, Tilda Swinton
But what about: Frances McDormand? Think about it. You know I’m right.
Dark horse contender: Joan Allen. She’s a tall, strong drink of water, but her almost elven features could channel The Crazy pretty well, I suspect.
Or there’s always: Winona Ryder or Uma Thurman
MAGS:
Maggie Smith
People out there like: Betty White, Cloris Leachman
But what about: Maggie Smith? Come on. You know I’m right.
Dark horse contender: Sissy Spacek. At 62, she’s technically way too young, but something about her feels right.
Or there’s always: Meryl Streep, with the right makeup
PLUTARCH HEAVENSBEE:
Jared Harris
This mysterious man of unknown age takes over as Head Gamemaker, but he has a hidden agenda that makes him much more interesting than Seneca Crane ever was.
People out there like: Jared Harris, Philip Seymour Hoffman
But what about: Just about anybody? It’s not like we know much about the guy’s physical appearance. Come on. You know I’m right.
Dark horse contender: That really shifty guy from Game of Thrones. Seriously, I could watch that guy for hours.
Or there’s always: Anybody! I mean it! Denzel! The Cloon! Kenneth Branagh!
JOHANNA MASON:
Mary Elizabeth Windstead
The last living female victor from the lumber district, Johanna also is one of the younger tributes to be thrown back into the arena for the Quarter Quell. She’s supposed to be sly, sarcastic — a big personality in a small package.
People out there like: Kristen Bell, Naya Rivera
But what about: Mary Elizabeth Winstead? Look at her. You know I’m right. Or, wait, no: Look at Shailene Woodley. Now you know I’m right. Or maybe I’ve been right twice.
Dark horse contender: Anna Kendrick. She’s the right age and has the right range of depth. Just when you expect her to zig, she zags.
Or there’s always: Natalie Dormer. She’s 30 already, but seriously: Nobody messes with Natalie Dormer.
FINNICK ODAIR:
Armie Hammer
Now this casting really matters. Tall, flirty, sexy, twentysomething, this onetime victor provides plenty of distractions for Katniss and the rest.
People out there like: Armie Hammer, Zac Efron, Ian Somerhalder
But what about: Well, you kind of had me at Armie Hammer.
Dark horse contender: Still thinking about Armie, come back later.

Daniel Newman!!! All the THG websites and imdb are already saying he’s been Cast as Finnick Odair this week. And I see why. He looks TOTALLY Like Finnick. No one else looks anything like him. Tall Built young Beautiful Sexy Redhead. They just Type Cast DANIEL NEWMAN. I’m so excited!

THOSE ARE THE ONES WHO I THINK WOULD BE PERFECT!
I don’t think this is going to be a cast of lots of big name A list actors. I just don’t get the feeling that the budget for Catching Fire is that much bigger than Hunger Games. I am expecting to see less well known people and maybe a couple of new comers.

All of these picks are pretty spot on especially Frances McDormand for Wiress, Jared Harris for Plutarch (mad men!) Sissy Spacek for Mags (perfection, actually)… Except Shailene Woodley for Johanna. No, no, no. She would have made a good Katniss, probably, but so not right for Johanna. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is someone who popped right into my head for Johanna a while back, though. She might be perfect. If you’ve seen Scott Pilgrim, you know what I mean.

Plutarch: I would like the guy that played the gamemaker setting off the fireballs at Katniss. Plutarch was a gamemaker before he became head gamemaker. I think it would be cool if they cast him because he had a clear part in the first movie and looks just how I imaged Plutarch to look.
Johanna: Kristen Bell (The only one I could think of and don’t know anyone else who is close enough.)
Finnick: Chris Pine or Armie Hammer
i think maggie smith would be good as mags. as much as i love betty white i feel like she’s to funny to be in that role. i can’t really picture her as mags. and i really hope kristen bell does NOT play johanna!!

Natalie Dormer for Johana? Nice! She will do a great job. She will give the character the right level of sarcasm that Johana has. It doesn’t matter how old she is, she looks pretty young to me. She was amazing in The Tudors. Way better than Kristen Bell.

Michael Emerson is perfect for Beetee!
Mags- Okay, I’m sorry but Betty White has got to be Mags, she is perfect for the role and with such a heroic ending I think that would be great!
Finnick- I personally think that Ian Somehandler would make a great Finnick except for his looks being all wrong, but acting wise I think he would nail it.
Johanna- Why is anyone saying that Kristen Bell should play her? Come on people, have you read the books? She’s scary as hell and Kristen Bell has a sweet little face that I don’t think could ever be scary or intimidating. My choice for Johanna would be Eliza Dushku all the way! She would be perfect for this role!
Plutchard- Jared Harris I believe would do a great job as Plutchard. After his performance in Sherlock Holmes 2 I really think he would be great. Because they give no real physical description of Plutchard he could really make the character his own, which would be great.
Beetee- Hands down should be Michael Emerson, no contest. He is PERFECT for this role, period.
Wiress- Helena Bonham Carter IS Wiress, just like Michael Emerson she would be amazing for this role, and who wouldn’t want to see these two on the same screen? They would be perfect together, the embodiment of District three.

Stephen Fry would be the perfect Plutarch Heavensbee. He already has the affected accent, and has the right look and is positively delightful in any role. I can think of no one better.
