Elizabeth Banks | Catching Fire and the future of Effie Trinket
When we heard the Gary Ross was no longer going to be working on Catching Fire, the big question was, how would the actors that seemed to have formed such a close bond with Gary, react? The folks at Canada.com’s Entertainment Blog managed to have a chat with Elizabeth Banks about Catching Fire, working with a new director and the future of Effie in The Hunger Games sequel.
As they point out, when Elizabeth was asked at recent interview promoting her latest movie, People Like Us, if she thought about backing out of Catching Fire she answered with an emphatic “No way”
“I am really happy for Gary because he made the decision that was right for him,” Banks says. “He will go on to have a lovely life, and a great career, because The Hunger Games is a great movie, and he proved that he’s an amazing writer.”
“It will be good to have Catching Fire seen through fresh eyes,” she says.
Then she raises one of the questions, I’m sure many fans have been wondering…what is the future for Effie Trinket?
“Effie does have a little more to do in the (Catching Fire) book, but you never know what’s going to make it to the screen.”
I hope they don’t down play Effie too much, but I am guessing Elizabeth Banks is right – she might not make a lot of the cuts! What do you think? Would you be disappointed if there was less Effie in the movie than in the book?

Yeah, I’d be disappointed. Effie is HILARIOUS! Don’t send Effie back to the Capitol!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not that much…..i’d rather they cut effie stuff then peeta and katniss stuff….plus effie isnt a very important person in mocking jay
Don’t cut Effie too much! She was such a big hit in the first movie, and she’s hilarious in the second book. She has to show how ignorant everyone in the Capitol is of everything in the Districts. And she has to control Katniss and Peeta, helping them make the relationship seem real and serious, not fake. Plus, she’s only in the very end of Mockingjay, so there shouldn’t be any problem including her a lot in Catching Fire.
I’m pretty sure that they’ll try to include Elizabeth as much as possible, it’d be a waste of talent if they didn’t. Plotwise it’ll be a tricky movie for sure, but they’ll find a way to include some Effy screentime, I wouldn’t worry about that.
dont cut effie to mutch only if its apserlutley neccessery ! effie is a great character that showes the capitals srangths and weaknesses
