Happy Birthday and Happy Hunger Games Breijanna!! And May the cake be EVER in your flavor!
My daughter’s thirteenth birthday party was an all-out Hunger Games Bash. We had tributes from all 12 districts, my daughter, Breijanna dressed as Katniss, with a replica jacket from the movie, a custom-made bows and arrow with quiver, and Katnisses’ boots to round out the whole costume. My other daughters, Karyna and Isabella, dressed as Prim with her pigtails and reaping outfit & Rue with the Hunger Games uniform and dainty little flowers adorning her crimped hair..the rest of the tributes were instructed to dress to impress in a fashion best representing their district and did a fabulous job representing the industries of their districts. All told, we made quite the scene at our local Chunky’s Cinema and Pub in Haverhill, MA.
Throughout the party, guest were entertained by a finale reaping drawing in which party-goers competed at different events to gain points allowing them to enter their names as tesserae tickets as they beat out their opponents.
The Games began with all the tributes introducing themselves, naming their district and convincing party-goers that their one natural talent would make qualify them as the go-to ally during the Hunger Games events. All participants then voted for the tribute they felt would be most beneficial to their survival once alliances were formed, and votes were entered into the reaping bowl.
Next was a scavenger hunt in which tributes were directed to find three “parachutes” planted throughout the movie theatre within 5 minutes. Two were decoys and one contained a bonus tesserae ticket to be entered into the reaping for the winning hunter. As 15 kids descended upon the theatre in which other birthday parties were being celebrated, many watched as the kids geared up for an all-out competition in a mad rush of enthusiasm. It was absolutely hysterical!
The final game consisted of a trivia competition in which tributes were asked three Hunger Games questions. Those that answered correctly were awarded not only an extra tesserae, but also the option of turning to the opponent on their left and opting to camouflage their face or style their opponent’s hair and makeup in the fashion best representing the styles of the Capitol. The reaping was conducting by the birthday girl and prizes were handed out to the winning tribute.
The grand finale of the birthday bash was the presentation of an amazing Hunger Games cake created by Erin’s Cakes of Haverhill, MA. The cake was adorned with a large, gleaming replica of the golden mockingjay pin and flames that engulfed the sides of the in representation of the girl on fire, resulting in an outstanding rendition of what a cake may have looked like at a actual Hunger Games gala during games in the movie.
At the conclusion of the games, all the guests were treated to dinner during the Hunger Games movie, topped off by a delectable piece of cake accopanied by icecream and a piece of the golden mockingjay pin to highlight the presentation. It was by far the best party I have ever planned and the party-goers all seemed to have had an outstanding time.
Sounds like it was a GREAT time! Next time I hope we get the invitation too
