Fan of the Week-Katie
Our Hunger Games Fan of the Week is Katie. She’s 15 and from Washington, USA. Let’s find out a little more about Katie and why she loves The Hunger Games so much.
What is it about The Hunger Games you love so much?
What do I love about The Hunger Games so much? Oh my gosh, it’s just incredible. I love that it’s not about love or another girl who needs to be saved because she’s weak. I love that Katniss is the strong one and Peeta’s, kind of, the weak one. Also that Katniss only does the things she does to save her family. For example, volunteering for Prim. The book itself is just incredible, I don’t read much, but I can’t believe the amount of emotions I felt reading The Hunger Games. I was happy when Katniss volunteered for Prim, it was amazing what she did. I was sad when Rue died; I mean how could you not? And I was mad at the end when Katniss told Peeta she was pretending the whole time, even though I knew it the whole time I was still kind of mad that she did that, considering that he’s totally in love with her. And just everything the book is about. The world its set in, and how the characters overcome everything even though it seems impossible. Also just how real it is. I honestly could see this happening in the future, I don’t know when or how, but it could happen. The Hunger Games has nothing supernatural about it, it’s just incredibly real.
Who is your favorite character?
My favorite character. Uhmmm, it’s a tie between Katniss and Peeta. Katniss is incredibly strong and brave. But Peeta’s so sweet and loyal to Katniss. And with Peeta in Mockingjay you see his more (for lack of a better word) evil side. Also in Mockingjay you see how Katniss has to let her guard down to help Peeta get better. I really can’t decide, I love them both.
What are your expectations for the movie?
What were my expectations for the movie? I didn’t really think it was going to be as good as the books, since movies almost never are. But I guess I still had pretty high expectations for the movie. I went and saw it the night it came out at midnight; I waited outside for an hour and a half, and waited in the theatre for another hour and a half. I can honestly say, it was worth it. There were a few things I would change but I still absolutely loved it! I need to go see it again though, because to me it went by really fast. Almost like they ran through everything. I also thought they cut the cave scene (my favorite part in the whole first book) kind of short. But it’s ok. I think since my expectations were so high the movie fell a tiny bit short of what I wanted, but if they weren’t so high it would have exceeded my expectations by miles.
What is your favorite quote?
Oh my gosh, my favorite quote? That’s a hard question, since I love just about everything about the whole book series. If I absolutely had to choose, just one, it would be in Mockingjay when their underground and Peeta’s messed up, right after brushes the hair off his forehead: “You’re still trying to protect me. Real or Not Real?”(Peeta) “Yes, because that we do, protect each other.”(Katniss). I’m not completely sure what the exact quote was since I don’t have the book with me right now, my friend is reading it, but I think that’s pretty darn close. But there’s still these:
“So that day, in the music assembly, the teacher asked who knew the valley song. Your hand shot right up in the air. She stood you up on a stool and had you sing it for us. And I swear, every bird outside the windows fell silent…and right when your song ended, I knew – just like your mother – I was a goner.”
“It’s not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you,” he says. “I’m okay once I realize you’re here.”
“You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your Tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.”
“I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don’t hurt anyone but myself.”
“You can spin it any way you like… But in the end, who does it benefit? No one. The truth is, it benefits no one to live in a world where these things happen”
And just about everything Finnick says.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Um, yes. I think that the actors they chose for the movie were perfect! Absolutely, without a doubt, perfect! Jennifer Lawrence is incredible. Josh Hutcherson (apart from being gorgeous) is an amazing actor and I think he was perfect to play Peeta. You really didn’t see much of Liam but he looked like he’s a pretty good Gale (even though Gale is my LEAST favorite character in the whole series). Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, and Woody Harrelson were awesome as Cinna, Effie, and Haymitch. And Donald Sutherland looks exactly like I pictured President Snow. I’m so excited to see who is going to play Finnick! Oh my gosh! I forgot about Finnick when I answered the Favorite character question! But I guess he’d be my second favorite for the whole series, of course with Katniss and Peeta tied. Originally when my friend Jayde told me I had to read the books, I didn’t want to because I don’t really like reading, but once I started reading it I couldn’t stop. I annoyed my friends so much because when I was reading it that’s all I would talk about for weeks. I’ve read the series so many times it ridiculous! The books and everything that there about is amazing and I can’t wait for the next movie.

I felt kind of devastated when Finnick was killed. what did you think, Katie? I honestly don’t have a least favorite character, just to let you know.
I love Katniss and peeta too and Finnick is so my 2nd or 3rd fave character, and I dont like Gale, he killed Prim!!!!!! I made this HG fan website with my friend check it out http://weluvthegirlonfire.weebly.com/cast-funny-videos.html
Same. Everyone is like ” Shut up ! What is so good about the Hunger Games?” and I’m just holding my temper by saying ” Those words are illegal.”
thats how i feel, whenever people are like what’s so great about hunger games, i tell them and they’re like thats stupid! sometimes people dont understand what its like to be a teen that loves the hunger games with her heart
@KEE Haha
i do have a least favorite character! Gale, ugh i hate him so much.
i kinda agree with you on that!!!!!11
Other than Katniss or Peeta who is your favorite character
I cant say I hate him.. i mean, i love Peeta sooo much more, but Gale was Katniss’ confidant. She felt herself when she was with him. The only roblem was the hatred in his heart. One of my favorite quotes,i have it memorized, “What I need to survive isn’t Gale’s fire kindled with rage and hatred. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. Thw bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. And only Peeta can give me that. So after when he whispers,’You love me. Real or not real?’ I tell her,’Real.”
I agree with you so much because whenever I read the books I feel that Peers is the one that is truely good for Katniss and that they belong together and that Gale in some ways gets in the way. I k ie this sou.ds like I am just hating on Gale because I LOVE Peeta but the fact is that I belive that Gale is not the knight in shining armour for Katniss, Peeta is. I also believe that most of the “team Gales” haven’t read Mockingjay and seen the full extent of Katniss and Peetas love and how Gale just deserts her after Prim has been killed by something that he helped create. And for that and many more reasons that is why I dislike Gale AND LOVE PEETA <3
I LOVE FINNICK AND PEETA they are my favorite characters!
i actually quite liked gale, but in mockingjay i HATED him, he pretty much killed prim!
why aren’t you doing fan of the week anymore???
MY FAMILY CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THE HUNGER GAMES IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! EVERYTIME I TALK ABOUT IT, THEY LOOK AT ME AS IF I JUST ESCAPED FROM THE MENTAL HOSPITAL!!!!!!!:((((
