***Fan Question*** What Hunger Games book would you split into two movies?
The debate has been around the fan sites and twitter, also MTV has suggested it, We know that Mockingjay will be the book that is split into 2 movies, but if you could have it your way which book would you split and why? Also if you don’t agree with the possible “middles” I have picked and have other opinions please feel free to share them.
“Catching Fire” has a definitive area to split the movie. (When Katniss and Peeta or Haymitch have to go back into the arena)
“Mockingjay”. The middle here would possibly be when District 13 rescues Peeta, Johanna, etc. Or When Katniss accepts becoming the Mockingjay and starts to train to fight.
There are so many options and roads to travel in this. What road would you take?

Good discussion post. I think that the first movie should end right as soon as they pull Katniss and Peeta out of the arena and the second movie should begin right after they leave the arena the first time and end just before they are sent back into the Hunger Games.
no. none of them i want to see the books together then we would have to wait forever to see them and i do not wanna wait so they should stay together….they maybe long but thts wat i love
Mockingjay. But maybe both.
no >:(
I wouldnt split the second book into 2 movies because the second book is..(i hate to admit it) a tiny bit boring until they find out they are back in the games. dont get me wrong, i love the hunger games, but i just think that splitting the second book is a bad choice. so im glad they are splitting the third one because it has an equal amount of..err…excitement, in both parts of the book.
I think it should be the third book…in the second one it gets most interesting when they go into the arena and if you have to wait until another movie comes out it people would lose interest. But thats just my opinion.
I would definatly split catching fire in two. For me, it was my favorite book, and I think it has many elements that could make it two movies. Also, they wouldn’t be copying breaking dawn or deathly hallows.
no :-{
As much as I hate the idea I have to go with Mockingjay. This is mainly due to the fact that a Catching Fire part 1 would bore me to tears and a Mockingjay split wouldn’t be that bad.
none of them! there its solved next question!!
yes!
Mocking Jay. I think they should end Mocking Jay pt 1 as soon as they show that the capital has Peeta….
i think catching fire right after katniss runs out of her house because she found out she has to go back in the arena it would leave everybody guessing what would happen next.
i would want the scond book, catching fare, to be split into two movies. one about them back in the games and another about the rest of the stuff after the games, because a lot goes on after the games end.
i spelt a lot wrong up there^^^^^^ i meant second* and Fire* haha sorry..just wanted to let u guys know i know the real name of the book..
i dont think neither should be split cause it would not be a good idea.
SO TRUE!
they are going to end mockingjay with peeta being rescued.
Neither. They weren’t very big books so it really doesn’t make sense to split any in to two parts.
But, if there “must” be a grand finale for The Hunger Games movies, I’d go with splitting Mockingjay. Since it will be the winding down of the series — or better yet the ending — just makes it more dramatic. Like what someone else said, split it when they find out about Peeta.
Catching Fire, I think, would be when Katniss’ is drawn for the Quarter Quell. But that would be a short movie, wouldn’t it? Maybe when Katniss and Peeta return to the arena.
Or right before Katniss goes up into the Quarter Quell arena, when it shows Cinna being beaten up, so there and the camera lingers on the shocked/scared/confused face of Katniss.
NOTHATS A TERRIBLE IDEA! >:P
None, that would mean more waiting. . .
Everyone would say Mockingjay right? Welp, not me. I wouldn’t want Mockingjay to be split into two movies for a couple reasons. 1. It’s the last book. You just don’t do that to the last book that /everyone/ will want to see. 2. There aren’t any really good pauses within the book from which to end the 1st movie and begin the 2nd except for maybe when Katniss gets shot. But even then the 2nd movie wouldn’t be as long as the 1st of the duo.
I say Catching Fire would be a good one to split. Split it right after she sees the Arena for the first time, because you have to emphasize the fact of the rebellion. Also, you need to take notice of the crumbling of the relationship with Gale and the rebuilding up of relationship with Peeta. The “Career” training that they (Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch) do when the Quarter Quell is announced. All of the Capital’s parties and such. The pre-Arena preperations. There’s going to be a lot in these two movies. The first of the duo should be close to 2 1/2 hours long. Mockingjay should be around 3 hours.
Anyway they do it, it will be detailed and long.
Honestly, Catching Fire is my pick but we all know that its usually the final movie of a series that is turned into two films. Catching Fire, in my opinion, is no doubt more adventurous than Mockingjay. But Mockingjay is the finale that we all want to see in two parts. So my vote mostly goes to Catching Fire!
Well, I think that Mockingjay would a better choice to split into two movies, because it’s the last book of the series, and all. (kind of like what Harry Potter did) I think the idea to cut the movie off when they go to rescue Peeta is a great cliffhanger that will get people really excited to come back and see the movie because even if you know already what happens, you will most likely be anxious to see how the movie will bring it to life. So, I vote for Mockingjay!
Probably Mockingjay. Maybe when she wakes up and Haymitch tells her that they are going to save Peeta. I think that then would be a good time to split because in my head district 13 and the capitol have been completely different parts but you need a bit of a cliff-hanger to split at so I think that this would be a good spot.
If i HAD to..Mockingjay. Because there is too much blood (im not squeamish,, but if they put all of it together on screen i swear it’ll be rated R)
I would split Catching Fire right when they enter the games, that way you get to sort of know who the new characters are like Finnick,Johanna,Beete,Wiress, and Mags. But in the second movie it helps you find out what the characters are really like.
catching fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hope they don’t split them up because just like the characters, you’re supposed to feel absolutely breathless by the end of the movie!
but reality being what it is, they’ll probably decide to have a 2 part Mockingjay bc there is so much action in the latter half.
I say mockingjay… there is a definite spot to split and it is two different things… the rebellion and peeta.
If the second book is split in half, the first part may be a little boring… and some may think the second half will be just as boring, and not go.
Also, they would have to show the reaping in the first half of catching fire.. and by the seconf half, some people might forget who some of the tributes are and their districts.
I personally would enjoy Catching Fire being split up because it could give more time to show them visiting every district, which I was disappointed not to have more of in the book. There’s definitely two parts to it as well, everything going to hell for them in District 12, then being back into the arena, with a whole new group of characters being introduced.
With Mockingjay, I can see why they need the extra time that two movies brings, but dividing it seems more tricky. Still, I’m okay with however they do things, the longer the movies, the more scenes we love from the books we can enjoy, as well as perhaps some new ones.
neither of them! When I found out Harry Potter was gonna be in two parts I thought that it was a great idea. but then when I saw the first part I had to wait half a year for the next part
. They should’ve made the last harry potter a 4 hour movie. same with either book if their gonna be in two hours.
I agree with you matthew… I hate the idea that they’re making the three books into movies.
Well if they do, do mockingjay a good part to split it would be when peeta tells district 13 that they are gonna be bombed. but the only problem is that isnt too much into the book. if that happened between pages 180-220 then it should be that part when they split it!
i think it should be split when they rescue peta and he tries to strangle her
Mockingjay, because it is biggest, and all the other books, like Twilight or Harry potter is split in the last big book
i think they should split both cuz i cant decide….lus they both have good points to stop and even tho it is kinda boring in the first half of catching fire is boring…i saw breaking dawn and i thought it was kinda boring…and akward cuz they…ya know…anyway…it was still a good movie.
i would have to say mockingjay because 1. all major movie/books split there movies into 2 at the last movie/book like Harry Potter & twilight….2. it has WAY more action than Catching fire. if they split C.F then no one would want to come see the next installment cuz yes….the beginning part of C.F is boring. 3. Mockingjay can be split at so many parts….i would pick the part where they rescue peeta and he tries to kill katniss….CLIFFHANGER
but thats just my opinion
Neither. But if I had to pick one, then definitely Mockingjay. The first half of Catching Fire would be a terrible movie! That section of the book is honestly just a build-up to when Katniss and Peeta re-enter the arena, and made into a movie would be too odd. Nothing really happens – Katniss and Peeta do the tour, come back then find out they are going back into the arena. That’s about it. It would seem like a “filler” movie when Catching Fire is everything BUT a “filler” book.
Though I’d prefer not to split Mockingjay, seeing as though it looks like it’s definitely happening, then probably just after Finnick and Annie’s wedding. It would be a nice ending to a film, and build up an appropriate amount of suspense about Katniss planning to train to become the Mockingjay. Also, it would establish more suspense about Peeta’s status of still being hijacked, because it would be shown that he is getting better by making the cake.
monkingjay for shure because you have the spot in between the war and the the start of the book to split the movie up. Like they did in Harry Potter they sotp the first part when LV broke in to D cuffin to get the EW and started the second part with the Gringott’s Break-in.
In a perfect world they’d leave well enough alone and not split them, however…
I’d just cut them to make them the most continuous, so I’d have them go:
Hunger Games: End right after they announce them as the winners of the games
Catching Fire: End with her waking up and going to kill Peeta with the syringe, only to figure out that Peeta didn’t get saved.
Mockingjay: end right when Peeta tries to strangle Katniss
Finale: Strangulation scene to the end of the book.
MockingJay
Mockingjay should be be split at the point when Katniss is first put into the Star Squad and she and Finnick realize going to the capitol will be like returning to the arena. (“Let the 76th Hunger Games Begin!” -end-) There will be enough interesting events in both parts, and the films will each have a distinct plotline.
Also, I hope that either the 3rd or 4th movie will get its own title, rather than Part 1 and Part 2.
i defiantly say that if one is split, it should be the third! Mostly because it is the last one and you want it to last long. But, I do not like the idea because I had to re-watch the one before the last Harry Potter. Plus, I
HATE cliffhangers! I also agree with what Diana said!
the second book, because it has alot more happening then the third book
I don’t think they should split ANY of the movies. If they must, Catching Fire. I don’t think its boring in the first half, i think its much slower paced then the first half of the other books. I enjoyed how Catching Fire slowed down, it gave you time to process what was going on. If your like me, when they’re in a battle scene or they are violent, my eyes are racing across the page. Reading just slow enough to leave you hanging on every word. I dont like the idea of split movies, but i think it should be Catching Fire, if any.
Why do you guys say Catching fire? The next movie is supposed to come out NOVEMBER 30!!!!!!! As i said I dont want ANY of them to be split!
I think if they do end up spliting any of them i want it to be Catching Fire. But personally i wouldn’t mind sitting down in the Theater longer than usual, cause i dont like waiting for the next movie. So truely i hope none of them are split into 2 parts!
Well, of course it should be the Last/ 3rd one to be split into to because it has excitement (sort of) in both parts/area. if you split the 2nd one in to 2 the first half isn’t as interesting as the last when they go back to the arena and stuff. you would lose people in Part 1 of Catching Fire.
Well, this is an interesting descision. I mean, LOVE catching fire, but the first part is a bit boring. Especially cause I like Peeta better
. That said, I think Mockingjay was a bit too short to be split into 2. No matter what though, I’m gonna see these movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Mockinjay, right where Katniss gets shot would be the perfect spot. I can’t wait till the movie comes out!!!!!!!!!!!
totaly i agree like[boooom lay down on ground-done]so they totaly watch #2 of mockingjay ;]
I would have to say Mockingjay. Catching Fire drags a bit in the beginning. Many movies are not better than the books because details have to be left out so its not too long. But if they split any movies into 2 parts there would be no excuse.
I would expect it to have all the details that it has in the book.
If I had my way, I would make The Hunger Games the first movie. Then the second movie would be from the beginning of Catching Fire until the end of the interviews before the Quarter Quell – it’s a good place to end because it’s suspenseful and climatic. Then the third movie would be from Katniss’s entrance into the arena (shock the audiences right away with Cinna’s death) until Peeta’s rescue in Mockingjay – another good climatic point. Then the fourth movie would end it all. Unfortunately, I doubt Lionsgate is going to break it up like that.
If the movies have to be split, I do like that idea. It gives each movie a multitude of interesting events, and allows for more detail.
Honestly I HATE it when movies are split into two parts because they also end it in a cliffhanger! I’m on the edge of my seat thinking, what happens next?!! And then the movie ends and I get really disappointed!
I’m not into splitting the books. I’d only like to see them split Mockingjay if the would elaborate on the ending. I felt like it was rushed…2 sentences can by no means satisfy the finality of Peeta and Kat’s relationship. I love this series, but I felt heartache and longing for something more…I really felt like Mockingjay was a cliff hanger in itself.
Mockingjay. Catching Fire has a lot in the first part that can be cut down (although not too much!), but Mockingjay has action like every two seconds. If they try and rush everything in to one film, it will be worse than THG.
Do none of you realize that if you split Mockingjay where you all suggest (when the Capitol shows Peeta, when Katniss accepts the role of mockingjay), the movie would only be, like, fifteen minutes long!! Almost NOTHING happens in between the beginning and those parts, except that you see District 13. Pretty much it.
Catching fire I would split into two movies
I agree with catching fire
i think that catching fire should be the book to be split and i think it should be split after the dome around the arena burts and have the ending to catching fire and the beginning of mocking-jay into a movie if there was to be 2 movies
I think they should consider slowing it all down and make 5 more. 3 for Catching Fire and 2 for MockingJay. That way, they don’t have to cut out and chop down AND…they keep the money rolling in. We have something to look forward to for the next 5 years. Everyone is happier except those folks that want is all done in one movie so they don’t have to wait. I’m all for anticipation…if the end product is worth the wait.
MockingJay!!!! I watched the movie before i read the book :3, i actually found that was alot better…. as you would know what they looked like specifically. I just needed to add that in
The mockingjay should be split into 2 movies becuase it should be more detailed seeing as its the last book, but as with the first Hunger Games there wasnt much to it, they missed alot!
But yeah the first part of catching fire not to interesting so the first part of that would be sucky haha
just saying, but really enjoyed all books. Who wouldnt?
haha
Thanks to the Hunger Games movie, my obssession with Josh Hutcherson has definetly been visable
BOTH
i would say both because they can have more time so they can have all the stuff
ithink it be better for mockingjay to split because of tha fact that itz tha last movie …and itll drawn for action ,excitement ,chillz and thriller ..too see how peeta is hijacked ..prim and finnick die ..kitniss kills coin ..tha vitor talk and take vote about the 76 hunger games for tha capitols kids …johanna and katniss traning …finnick revaeling to tha capitol or katniss what president snow use him for and how snow kill people tha dont do what he sayz …..soo yea ithink mockingjay would better …ooh and it aslo would have time to explan what happen to there lives ….how they all end up
:]
mockingjay should be although im reluctant to say so because its long enough to wait for catching fire (almost a year) but to wait another year to only see the first half of mocking jay that means ill be almost seventeen if i want to get the box set with the 4 movies in it ……….
i dont think i can handle it …
any way ya i think the spot where she finally sees peeta, when the get him back from the capitol. they should end it just when he trys to strangle katniss to add suspense!
