First Look at the Katniss Everdeen Barbie Doll

Katniss Everdeen Barbie Hunger Games

Earlier this month we filled you in on Mattel’s plans to create a barbie doll off of The Hunger Games heroine. And now thanks to EW, we have the first look at their Katniss Everdeen Barbie.

Katniss Barbie Doll Hunger Games Now, EW is happy to share the exclusive first look at the iconic heroine after being filtered through Mattel’s Barbie-making factory. This Katniss isn’t wearing her reaping dress — instead, and rather fittingly, she’s wearing what she wore into the Games and comes complete with a miniature mockingjay pin, bow and arrow, forest-tromping boots, and that one, plump braid.

“I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans,” says Greening of the Katniss Barbie. “Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”

Designers at Mattel created Katniss’ look by going straight to the source and examining the actual costume that Jennifer Lawrence wore in The Hunger Games. “Hopefully Hunger Games fans can appreciate the attention to detail,” Greening says.” The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”

Of course, it took a true fan to create such a doll. “I am a huge Hunger Games fan and loved all three books, so it was truly an amazing experience for me to be able to design the Katniss Barbie doll,” Greening says. “I think it really pays tribute to Katniss and The Hunger Games.”

You can buy the Katniss Barbie in stores starting August 1 of this year, but you can pre-order the doll NOW at Barbiecollector.com for $29.95.

    For those interested in this it would be awesome if they made a Peeta Ken! It seems so obvious I’m surprised that they havn’t. They would make so much money and it would be perfect especially for those who would play with them or want a matching set.

    Usually toys of characters look off or wrong, but this one is really good and their attention to detail is impressive! I’m totally impressed by how AMAZING this Barbie looks nice job Mattel!

    I don’t call 2 shades of eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner under the eye, and penciled eyebrows a “minimalistic” or “makeup-free” look, but I guess it’s a step up from normal barbies. But she could definitely do with a little less hair…
    Oh well, I guess our culture is incapable of creating and dealing with a doll that looks remotely like a real human being. It’s not ALL Mattel’s fault. At least they are trying.
