53rd Hunger Games

Postby Mia106 » Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:00 am

So my teacher had us all read the hunger games, and after we finished, she wanted us to write a story of another hunger games. Give me ideas and tell me if I did anything wrong.

I look across the waves of the ocean, I saw him. His blond hair blows in the wind. His brown eyes alert and focus, ready for anything. I stared into his eyes, and he stares back. He gives a thin smile, a smile that one might think was friendly, but that person wouldn’t have known us. That smile, that was the smile of someone who would do everything in their power to make sure that you don’t get out of here alive.

Chapter 1

I woke up early in the morning, the morning sun’s rays where just starting to climb over the trees. It was a happy day for most of district 1. Today was the day of the reaping. For most, this is a happy occasion, where a boy and girl of our district will fight against 23 other boys and girls of each of the 12 districts. But that day, that day marked the day when my sister put her life on the line for me three years ago. Her name was Rose Goldmen, she was 18 when I was reaped. I was only 13. She didn’t hesitate, she wanted me to live at all costs, even if she needed to give up her own life. The 50th hunger games, the second quarter quell, where double the tributes where reaped, I would have died the first minute of the games. She somehow managed to get to the bottom 2, but then everything went wrong. She should have won, she was fighting against a boy from district 12, the weakest of all the districts. He was on the verge of dieing, we were already celebrating, but then she threw the axe. He dodged it and it hit the force field, she didn’t have enough time to get out of the way before the axe planted it self in between her eyes. I shouldn’t be mad at the boy, whose name is Haymitch, but I can’t help but feel like it’s his fault my sisters gone. His and mine. I got dressed in record time, a couple minutes at the most. I had a beautiful white dress, one with roses and daises on it. A fun idea, my sisters name was Rose, and my name is Daisy, but it just felt awful to be reminded of how much I missed my sister. I walked out the door. Before I got ten feet from my house, Tom stopped me.
“Hey Goldmen, ready to chicken out again, maybe you could get your cousin killed this time” he teased.
Tom always hated me, he was 18, and far bigger and stronger than I was. He was also one of those kids who was thirsty for blood.
“Shut up Tom, at least I uh- I don‘t uh-” I stammered, usually I was better at comebacks than this
“Cat got your tongue?” He was enjoying himself way to much.
There was nothing I could do but just stare at him. He pushed me down to the ground.
That was to much, Rose didn’t give up her life to save me so I could get bullied by some jerk. I grabbed a pile of dirt and threw it in his face. He stumbled back screaming as dirt got into his wide open eyes. I saw my chance and I kicked him down.
“I hope you like the taste of mud pretty boy!” I screamed. It wasn’t my best comeback, but it’ll do.
I took off running before he had a chance to recover.

Chapter 2

I made sure to stay away from Tom the rest of the day, actually I stayed away from everyone for that matter. I walked by the victors village, a place where all the victors and their families lived after they won. My stomach turned, that could have- should have been us. Or at least Rose should have been walking down that street, not me. I saw 7 of the houses had lights on. 7 victors that where still alive from district 1. We had the most victors, us and district 2. Time flew by, way to fast, and before I knew it, it was time for the reaping. I joined the crowd around the justice hall and I saw her, Puf Lora, the announcer. I always found her name amusing and I needed to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. I also found her look very unusual, she died her hair blue, and wore an all blue, puffy dress with 4” high heals. Her eyeliner was blue, and her lips where as blue as the ocean.
“Ladies and gentleman!” her voice boomed across the floor, snapping us all back into attention.
“We have a special treat for you!” Puf announced.
They started to play a movie up on the stage. It explained how it was a honor to be chosen, how the districts rebelled and lost, and what the Hunger Games are.
“Now for the reaping of the lucky tributes! Ladies first!” She stuck her long, bony fingers into the large reaping bowl. Thousands of names, and only four of them where mine. What where the chances of me being picked again? Not very likely.
Oh how wrong was I.
“Daisy Goldmen!” She announced smiling, she had no idea she called that name before.
The crowd fell silent, they knew. They remembered.
“Daisy? Come up here Daisy” Puf’s voice was sweet, though annoying and high pitched.
I didn’t even realize I was walking up to the stage until I hear the crowd burst out into laughter. My best, and only, friend Amy grabbed my arm.
“You have dirt all over your back” She whispered to me.
I froze, I forgot to clean up after my fight with Tom.
The peacekeepers didn’t care how embarrassed I was, and they shoved me up stage. I made sure to face the crowd, so they couldn’t see the dirt stain. The grown ups stopped laughing, so did almost all of the teenagers. Only Tom and his friends where still cracking up.
“Now it’s time for the boys! Let’s find out who the lucky boy will be this year to represent district 1!” Puf reached her hand into the reaping bowl, and picked out a signal sheet of paper.
“Tom Hoffer!” Her voice seemed to be taunting me this time.
Tom just laughed and jogged up to the stage. He had no dirt stains on his clothes. He reached out his hand to shake mine, and I grabbed it. He roughly shook my hand, but I put a smile on my face and pretended not to care how hard he shook my small hand.
“The tributes for district 1!” Puf motioned towards us.
I execpted for the crowd to cheer, like they usually do, but instead, they all whistled one, signal note. A note that was barely used, a note that seemed useless to the other districts and harmless to the captiol. But that note, it was the signal of sorrow. It was what the people of district 1 used when they where in grief, when they felt sympathy or empathy. It was a silent way of saying I’m sorry. It was high pitched and quick, though it seemed to last for hours to me.

Chapter 3

I was escorted into the Justice Building to say my goodbyes. My dad came in first. He hugged me hard and started to talk strategy. I stopped him when he was telling me how to make a shelter out of nothing but twigs and bark.
“Dad, I’m not going to win.” I muttered.
“You’re from district 1 honey, of course you can” He says, though we both had doubts.
“I’m not part of the career pack dad! They hate me! Tom wanted me dead all his life and know he gets to kill me in front of everyone!” I shouted, I instantly regretted it when I saw the flash of sadness on his old, worn out face. He pointed to the wall of victors, 19 of them, all from district one. He pointed to one of them. I instantly recognized her, Lucy. She was 12 when she was reaped, and only about half of the size as Jack, the boy tribute from district 1 that year. She won, and didn’t kill a soul. She simply stayed in a tree, everyone forgot about her, until it was to late. The careers killed Jill, a girl from district 5, and they thought the killed all the non careers. Jack ended up killing all of the careers, but he suffered a fatal wound to the stomach. He died about one minute after he saw Lucy jump down from the trees. This happened in the 49th games, so she would be my mentor.
“Do you think she thought she could win?” he asked.
“No dad.” I mumbled.
“Listen to her, and you might come home” He said.
A couple peacekeepers came in.
“Times up” one of the biggest ones said.
“I love you!” He shouted as they pulled him away.
“I love you to dad!” I watched him go and tried to keep from crying.
Amy came in next and we spent the whole time talking about clothes, boys, and the newest TV shows. I know you might think it’s weird that we spent out last minutes together gossiping, but Amy knew me, she knew I wanted to pretend my life was normal again, at least for 3 minutes.
“Good luck Daisy” She hugged me and left before I could respond.
My mom shuffled in as soon as Amy left, she was crying. I did the only thing I could do, I went up to her and gave her a long hug.
“I’ll watch every minute of it honey” My mom said through her sobs.
“No mom, you’re not watching any of it!” I shouted.
“But-” she muttered.
“I don’t want you to watch me die mom” I said and I looked at the clock, 15 more seconds.
“If you wish, I love you” she mumbled.
“I love you too mom” I said, tears started to fall from my eyes.
“Times up” the peacekeepers said again, they needed to drag my mom away from me.
I had no more visitors.

This is really good. i can't wait to read more!

Chapter 4

I was escorted to the train with peacekeepers, Tom standing by my side. When we got on the train, Lucy was sitting at a table, drinking a cup of mint tea, she didn’t even acknowledge us. Tom, who already knew everything there is to know about fighting in the Hunger Games that there is to know, went straight to his room, not caring about learning anything from Lucy. Anyways, the way she won would get him killed in an instant, but I needed to get every piece of strategy she has to offer.
“Hi, I’m Daisy” I said, hoping to get her attention.
“I don’t care, you’ll probably be dead in 3 weeks anyways” her voice was soft and sad, like a little girls, it sent shivers up my spine.
“I might not be if you help me” I said, I didn’t spend my time with dad getting lectured about how to win, to come back ice cold in a wooden box like Rose.
“Are you part of the career pack?” She asked, hatred in her voice.
“No mam” I said, trying to be polite
“Then you’re dead, I don’t want to make friends with a girl who will die in the games” Lucy replied, her voice sounded empty.
“I bet you said the same thing to my sister! Youcould have saved Rose!” I screamed, I was furious with Lucy.
“Rose, is your sister?” She asked.
“Ya” I answered, suspecting Lucy to laugh at how smaller I was then her, and point out that if Rose didn’t win, I had no chance.
Instead, she hugged me.
“She was the best tribute I ever met” Lucy said through her sobs.
I could feel the wetness of her tears dribbling down my back.
“You’re going to win” she whispered, finally letting go and she whipped her tears.
“First things first, make sure EVERYONE knows you lost a sister in the games before, and make sure you add the part about her volunteering, sponsors are suckers for sob stories” Lucy told me.
I nodded, happy that I was finally getting some help.
“And find allies, from district 9, 10, 11, or 12. They may be the weakest, but they are desperate for allies, and if they can get a girl from district 1 to like them, they will follow you around like a lost puppy” Lucy said.
“Ok, what about if I can get into the career pack? Maybe Tom will let me join” I said, hopeful.
“Ya, they can take you to the bottom 5, and then they will attack you before you can think about it, to risky for a girl your size” Lucy said, and I knew she was right.
“It will be hard, and you will rely on the sponsors, but trust me Daisy Goldmen, I promise, I will do everything in my power to get you back home to your family, alive. But for now, go get some sleep, we will get to the capitol in 3 hours” She said, and turned around and walked to a different train cart.
I hurried to my cabin, thinking I could never fall asleep. I passed out on my bed as soon as I sat down.
