TimeLine for the Creation of Pan-Em...or the fall of the USA

TimeLine- I'm putting the Hunger Games universe approximately 130 yrs from now.
Here are some of the events that I imagine led to the fall of the United States and the creation of the Dictatorship of Pan-Em:

Summer, 2013: The United Nations announce that Global Warning is REAL! Record setting temperatures cause droughts and power outages. Recorded heat wave records for 2013: July 24th, Texas Temps reach 135 degrees. From July 24th to august 30th, the average temp in Texas is 114 degrees. Paris, France records it's highest temp. ever, 126 degrees. Fairbanks, Alaska has a week of 90 degree weather in September.

Jan, 2015: A massive earthquake rocks the west coast of the United States. Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Olympia, and Portland no longer exist. The West Coast of the US loses 200 miles of coast. Seawater flooding the region forces mass exodus to central america.

April, 2018: US troops are sent into Mexico and Canada to commandeer foodstuffs, farmland, and rescources.

June, 2018: Chinese Troops land on both coasts of the US.
June, 2018: England and France declare states of Emergency

Jan, 2019: Chinese Troops withdraw from US soil. Russia detonates an EMP missile over Washington, DC. The east coast of the US loses all power.

March 11th, 2019: Individual European nations are dissolved, and the European Union of States is established. A few countries try to remain independant, including Spain and Sweden.

Feb. 2019: Russia invades and annexes the state of Alaska

Summer, 2020: The US government re-locates to the Northeast. A command center is built. Tactical Nuclear Weapons are stored at a state of the art Military Command Centeri n the former New York/Massachusetts/NH vicinity.

June, 2021: China annexes Guam, Hawaii, and other US properties in the Pacific.

Winter, 2025:West Virginia, Pennylvania, and Ohio declare themselves a confederation of states. A militia is formed, and these three states seal it's borders, as they use their land to feed the people there.

Spring, 2027: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri form their own union. The Central American Union, consisting of these four states, send Militia out to procure rescources and food stuffs from nearby territory.

Summer, 2027: North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia are flooded when an Earthquake, centered 75 miles off the coast, causes a tsu-nami that rips inland, laying waste to the southern coast.

2030: The United States Government, attempting to keep the country intact, separates the remaining land into Districts. The 13 districts are designated by FEMA, in an attempt to aid and assist, as well as keep order among the people.

2031-2039: Known as the Dark Times. With the total collapse of government infra-structures, idividual militias and clans fight amongst each other for land, food, and rescources. Factions of the US military do all they can to restore and retain order.

2040: The Government assigns each of the Districts duties. A network is set up. Raw Goods and Rescources are cultivated from each district, accordingly to their strengths.

2045: The district 12 rebels are finally defeated, and the Union between West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio is officially nullified.

2048: The Central American Union, formerly consisting of Iowa, Illinois, Missori, Indiana, and later, Nebraska is separated into separate districts. The US government sends in CIA trained troops, called "Peace Keepers" to stabilize the area.

2055: While the military/nuclear base command remains at District 13 in the old American Northeast, and new political HeadQuarters is created on the west coast, in what was once the Rocky Mountains. With the breakdown of communications, the citizes of the districts are not aware that the people behind the formation of this new "Capitol" are rich politicians, greedy military leaders, and former entertainment stars.
the government in the Capitol and the government still in District 13 are constantly at odds with one another over several issues.

2060: The 13 districts are clearly and distinctly formed. The rocky mt. government creates a training center nearby, in District 2. This will be where an army of Peace Keepers will be trained to be dispatched thu-out the nation. District 2 is also where the main weapons manufacturing will take place.

2064: The capitol outlaws any rebellious activities, including the celebration of any holidays, other than those mandated by the capitol, Religion is outlawed, and any teachings not approved by the Capitol are punishable by death, if discovered.

2062: A small asteroid hits the earth. Italy, Greece, Macedonia, and Turkey are destroyed. The earths atmosphere is affected. Despite the Global Warming trends, winters are now harsh, due to sun-light being reflected off the dust in the atmosphere.

2063: The districts rebel against the government set up in the Capitol. The capitol reports that District 13 has been destroyed in a limited nuclear exchange. All other districts cease rebellion as newsfeeds show the complete desolation of the North-East.

2068: In an attempt to quell further rebellion, any reference to "the United States of America" as well as the mention of any former state, is Illegal. Martial Law is enforced. In celebration of continueing peace, the 12 remaining districts will be united and known as the nation of Pan-Em. The capitol issues a directive that, starting this year, 2068, each district must send 2 representives to compete in The Hunger Games.

2075: China, Japan, and Russia engage in all out nuclear war. All communication with these 3 nations is lost.

2077: Pan-Em closes all contact with foreign nations. Manufacturing and Trade will only occur thru the Capitol.

2078: High Speed bullet Trains are established, connecting each district directly to the Capitol.

2080: The Remnants of the Canadian armed forces are repelled trying to invade District 8

2086: A fleet of unknown ships are destoyed off the west coast. The nuclear missiles used to destroy this fleet of unknown origin are launched from the Rocky Mountains.

2090: The citizens of the Capitol continue to thrive under the system established. Laws are made to ensure that the Districts are clearly responsible in maintaining supply lines to the capitol. Any excess supplys will be distrubed to the Districts after the Capitols needs are met.

2100: District 2 creates the "Training Academy". The District 2 Tributes for the Hunger Games will now be selected and trained at the Academy. A few other districts copy this idea and the 'careers' are established.

2110: The Hunger Games becomes one of the only Holidays celebrated by the Capitol. And is by far it's most popular.

2110-2043: The situation for Pan-Em is as portrayed in Suzanne Collins THE HUNGER GAMES!


Hi Everyone...what do you all think? I typed this up fast, so I know there is probably a lot of holes in my timeline, but it was fun thinking about what might have caused the demise of the United States.

i want to write a pre-quel to the Hunger Games with Clove as the main character. What I want to do is give the fans a little more of the history of how the world became like it is in the Hunger Games novels.

the outline is as follows:

Introduction with a brief note from Suzanne Collins thanking me for my work expanding "The Hunger Games" universe

Chapter 1: Clove as a little girl
Chapter 2: Clove recruited for the District 2 Academy
Chapter 3-5: Training, the Early years. This is when she's betwen the ages of 8-11
Chapter 6 -8: Training, the Mid-years. She's 12- 13
Chapter 9-12: The year leading up to the 74th Hunger Games

The Main Characters will, of course, be Clove and Cato, but also I want to introduce the characters that shaped her life...her mom and dad, and a brother (stone) and sister (no name yet)

other characters will be instructors from the Academy and other Tributes. The District 2 Academy trains tributes as young as 8 yrs old. To be re-cruited after the age of 10 is rare. So there will be tributes for the 72nd, 73rd, 74th, 75th, and 76th games as characters. That is the structure of the Academy, they recruit the careers and train them right up to their games. But....deaths of tributes at the academy are not rare! There are also back-ups being trained in case of this.

The instructors are in regular subjects like History and Math as well as Martial Arts, Physical Fitness, Weapons, Out-door Survival...maybe other things that i haven't thought of yet.

Clove hates all the instructors, but, unknown to her, one of the weapons instructors, whose own daughter was killed in a Hunger Games, looks out for her because Clove reminds him of his daugther.

Also, my goal is to show how she became such a cold-hearted, teen girl killer, but I want my readers to understand how she got that way...and even sympathize and like her.

some of the other characters are a girl rival that, they both hate each other, but because of that they are both made stronger. a boy tribute that has a crush on her, and we will also see Clove and Cato have a brother/sister relationship, but Clove ends up falling in love with Cato, though they both never admit it...(or maybe not even realize it)

YES! I wanted Mass to be part of district 13, but i think if you go by the official hunger games maps, (if there are any) we are totally destroyed.

that is why i made the district 13 government the good guys in my time line, too!

and...We have the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS playing for the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP!

oh, AND THE BOSTON BRUINS OPENING NITE, TONITE!!!!!..

AND...we also have CAPE COD!!!! PROVINCETOWN!!! and ....FENWAY PARK!!!!
