Arenas

Yo, I lov to make up my own arenas

one of mine is:
A lake. a rather large lake surrunded by an open field. the cornucopia is in the center on the lake on a rock there are 12 rope bridges that lead there. in the cornucopia are 3 oxygene tanks for each player (and severl weapons and some food and medicine). the field is covered with roaming muttations one of which is a bug that, when it bites, leaves the spot feeling like its on fire. this muttation was called the Katniss mosquito in honor of the girl on fire.

My idea for an arena is a bombed out/destroyed city, possible Chicago or Detroit. The cornucopia is at an abandoned stadium, I'm thinking like the Pontiac Dome or Soldier Field.

The tributes have to run around the ruined city, there's plenty of hiding places in burnt out/abandoned buildings. Also the ruins of the city contained old vehicles, tanks, humvees, etc.

The reason this will be so fascinating, is that we get clues about what happened to the old United States. Did a natural disaster cause the destruction of the city? Military action? Civil unrest?

Also, the tributes find plenty of weapons in the abandoned city from the old days, so the Tributes that only grab a few supplies from the cornucupia, or choose to avoid that scene altogether, have a chance to 'power up' from items they may find.

I'm visualizing scenes like this:

2 tributes that pair up early in the game are in a building, and they're standing at an old coke machine.
Girl Tribute: "what's this?"
Boy Tribute: "Coca Cola? I never heard of it"
They break it open, and a lone can of coke is at the bottom of the machine. They open it.
Boy Tribute: "It looks like some kind of oil that they used for their machines or vehicles"
Boy Tribute: "yeah, you better leave it alone, it might be bad for you.'

You can use your imagination and think of various scenerios where this would be fun and interesting.

I like to think of arenas too.

Here's one:

The arena's circular and pretty big. The cornucopia is in the exact center, among with a lake with potable water. It's surrounded by a thin deciduous forest, with a radius on a 100 metres. Beyond the forest is the crux with the arena. We could say it's been divided in 4 even pieces, with different environments and climates. The first piece's an exotic jungle, much like the one in catching fire. There's plenty of food here (animals). But there's more mutations here than anywhere else. The next part's cold with snow and mountains. It can start snowstorms here, but here's the only place (besides the cornucopia) were you can get supplies. The next piece's quite the opposite; it's a desert. But here you can find sources of water, besides the lake.
And the last piece's a bare mountainous area with a few stones and trees. Everything here's completely harmless. But on the other hand, there's nowhere to hide.

And that's it.

Your here, thatsall I need to know
And you will keep me safe
