Chapter 20
I left the lovebugs on the roof, and snuck onto the elevator. I clicked a button and the elevator went down, but not to floor 1. Instead, I made the elevator stop on the 4th floor.
I snuck through the kitchen, fish and pie were still on the table from dinner, and the living room, the tv on low volum so the sound as barely audible, a rerun of the 34th hungers games where playing, and got to the bed rooms. I noticed an opened door, and Colton's body laying on the bed, covered with sea blue blankets. I climbed in silently and snuggled closer to his body. The heat from him made me sleepy, and I soon found my self drifting off. Before I was completly asleep, I felt Colton shift and a thick blanket was drapped over me. A gentle kiss was placed on my cheek, and I fell asleep.
I didn't have any dreams about Lucy, Rose, or even the Hunger Games. Instead I dremt of Colton. His hair blowing in the wind, the gleam in his blue eyes from when we first became allies, the way he moved when sparring with John, the black curls of his hair tickiling my neck from whenever he would bend down to get something. In my dream we sitting ontop of the water, looking out at the boats and fish infront of us. We didn't talk at all, but just him being by my side was enough.
What a cruel world. Everyone I love has or will be taken away from me. Rose, Lucy, my parents, and now Colton and the rest of my allies. I tried not to think about it.
The following day I was awoken by a rough tap on my shoulder. Colton's mentor was there, a girl about 30 years old with green eyes and a plump body, her blond hair was cut above her ears.
"Who invited you?" She sneered.
"Uh" I said back, still half asleep.
"You can't just come in another tribute's room uninvited! I'll tell Zachary and have you killed!" She shouted at me, awaking me fully.
Luckily she also awoke Colton.
"I invited her, we're were working on a game plan when we fall asleep, sorry" He lied. Lucky for me he was a quick thinker.
"Well get her out of here! The games are in a hour!" She snapped, not even mentoining her name. I think it began with a B.
As I scurried out the door, three people pushed past me, wearing leopord print furs and white hair. His prep team I guessed.
I hurried to the elevator, and once I got to my floor, my prep team swarmed me. The fixed my hair and did my nails a dark shade of brown.
"Brown?" I asked, usually they would make me pink.
"We need you to blend in, and there is almost always forest in the arena" Said Cullo as she finished my left hand.
Keke worked on my hair, and Mullo showed me a platic gray jump suit. As they helped me into it, Cinna and his mom entered.
"Good luck, and by the way, my name is Amy" said my styliest.
I smiled at her, my jumpsuit was to big, but it would do. I walked outside just as the hovercraft came, Tom was already there. I tried to find Colton but two game makers led me on the hovercraft and strapped me in next to Tom and Paige. They grabbed my right arm and stuck a needle in it. I tried to hide the pain, since Tom and Alicia were on both sides of me.
"What's that?" John said as the stuck the needle into his arm.
"A tracker, to know where you are" said a female game makers said with a soft voice.
I smiled at him, trying to make him happy.
The hovercraft landed and we all got out, they split us up and led us to the underground, we were all alone besides out styliest in the underground station.
"Be careful out there" said Amy and she hugged me briefly and led me to a tube made of glass leading above ground.
I stepped the tube and forced a smile at her, the floor on the tube lifted me up, and Amy disapeered.
The arena apeared, waves splashed over my feet, the cornacopia in the middle, gleaming in the sun.
I look across the waves of the ocean, I saw him. His blond hair blows in the wind. His brown eyes alert and focus, ready for anything. I stared into his eyes, and he stares back. He gives a thin smile, a smile that one might think was friendly, but that person wouldn’t have known us. That smile, that was the smile of someone who would do everything in their power to make sure that you don’t get out of here alive.
I could hear the clock ticking down.
"10" said a robotic voice.
"9" said the robot again.
"8" it said again
"7" and again.
"6" once again.
And then a defining boom that sent a disimbodied hand fly just over my hand, a cannon blasted, and I knew what that ment. Someone stepped off their platform, I looked and saw it was the dsitrict 7 boy.
I should have felt sorry for him, why didn't I feel sorry for him?
