The day when I decided to become a soilder was the day my mom died. Amanda and I where no younger then 8, and we were spending our free time together with our mom. My mom had very short blond hair and she was one of the few teachers in district 13. She always wore her golden hair in a single braid, Amanda and I did too. There was a soft knock on the door, and that was when my mom knew something was wrong. My mom knew that if there was a school problem, the guards would open the door with their keys, if it was a security problem, they would break down the door and the alarms would ring. I was to young to know that, and I opend the door despite her protests. A man with shaggy brown hair that reached right above his eyebrows and ripped clothes appeared infront of me. In his right hand was a pistol, his left hand was in a fist.
"Cassy get back!" Shouted my mother from the back of the room with my sister. I started to back up, unsure what to do when the man hit me across the face. I fell instantly, I'm not sure if the man was strong, or if it was just because I was 8, but it hurt. I started to cry, and that's when I heard the click of him unlocking the gun above my head.
"Let her go you meanie!" Said Amanda, running from our mom's grasp to my side. The man placed his toe on her stomach and kicked her down. That was when I decided he was weak, no strong person would hit a little girl like that, espically not one as sweet and innocent as Amanda.
I was young, but I knew what should have happend next. The man should have shot me, I should have died, the guards would hear the shot and kill the man before he could hurt Amanda or my mom, but that didn't happen. Amanda and I clung together, looking up at the man. His brown eyes didn't look human, but like one of the mutt's eyes we learned about in school.
I felt my mom jump on top of Amanda and I, her soft hands holding my arm, and then I heard the shot. It rang through my ears, and I felt warm blood run down my arm as my mom softens her grip. Ten heavy steps where echoeing down the hall, coming closer every second. I don't move, refusing to believe what happend. Just as the footsteps where cloe enough, 5 shots rang out, and the man fell with a thud.
(This is my first draft, mostly brainstormed, I'm going to bed now and my computer won't save it so I'm posting it here, don't worry, this issn't my final one
