Been off board a while. So, Hello again. I've had a wild couple of weeks since I last logged on.
FIRST. I got a free pair of frames, for my glasses, from a regular at work. That was nice of him. I had those nice frames for a week, then they (along with my lenses and my face) got pulverized in a flurry of punches from a mad-drug addict.
I was walking home, one sunny afternoon. Some stranger smiled at me, as he passed by. I politely smiled and nodded hello back. Next thing I know, his fists are blurring left and right all over my face; my glasses exploding in the multiple impacts.
I was in shock. It all happened so quickly, I don't even remember raising my hands to guard my skull. I didn’t block half his punches, but I blocked enough to make him wary of me.
I also wasn’t panicking, begging, or (shock or no shock) allowing him to budge me an inch in stance. By the time I regained my awareness, my glasses were gone, my face was knarled, and my left eye was drowning in my own blood (from a slit were the broken glass of my glasses grazed my brow).
I couldn’t see him. Even without the blood distorting my vision, my eyesight without glasses is to bad to make shapes out. But some how I recovered myself enough to push him back a couple paces, and make him cautious. My attacker finally gave up, and ran off. I filed a police report, but they never caught him.
SECOND. The cop who came to the scene, and filled out my report, wouldn’t stop talking about wanting me to see an ambulance. I told him, I didn’t have health insurance and didn’t want to drown in debt for it. Besides, bloody and bruised, I felt certain I was good enough.
Finally he convinced me to at least be looked over. The EMTs couldn’t find anything life threatening about me, but wanted me to come to the hospital for an EXPENSIVE cat scan. I declined, and signed a waver.
Here’s the funny part, ambulances aren’t free. I didn’t know that. The medic didn’t do anything ask me some number question, day questions, and to fallow his finger with my eyes. But according to the bill I got from the City of Memphis, that's a 200 dollar service. I fought off my attempted mugger, just to be mugged by my city.
THIRD. I didn’t have money for new glasses, and I'm too blind without them to work. So I had to coordinate with family members to get a loans, and combine those into a new pair of glasses. And because my prescription is so bad, my glasses are never cheap. Which is why I held onto my last pair for eight years.
It wasn’t just the expense of glasses, that kept me out of work. I had to wait until the swelling over my entire face went down enough to take a new eye exam. Two weeks later I was back.
FOURTH. My absence made work decide I wasn’t such a necessary person after all, so they re-cut my already cut hours down some more. To bare the expense of that, an empty account, already regular bills, and the fact I'm moving soon; for the past two weeks I’ve been living on one to two instant ramen a day. Some days just hot tea.
FIFTH. My bank account had a hidden trip in the policy. If at anytime my balance goes below 6 dollars, they bill me 10 dollars. Thus making THEYRE bill bounce, and me owing them and addition 35 penalty for a bounced transaction.
But when it rains it pours. Two sites different sites I unsubscribed from at different times, somehow reactivated themselves and I started getting billed again. So plus the first bounce fee, I had some new 35 dollar bounce fees (plus yearly payments) this weekend.
I got the former sites settled, and refunded. But that doesn’t refund my bounce fees.
HaHaHaHa
SIXTH. I'm moving soon. Downtown life maybe trying to kill me, but I will NOT LET THEM! Today might be a bad day, and tomorrow the same. But once I'm out, I intend to find a better day somewhere down the line.
So, what's new with you?
