VIDEO: Is Grant Gustin right for the role of Finnick Odair?
The fan favorite to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire was once resoundingly Alex Pettyfer, but it seems times have changed and so have the legions of Hunger Games fans.
Now the huge buzz is building for Glee actor Grant Gustin to take on the role in The Hunger Games sequel.
Our friend Kaleb Nation decided to put the question out there, to see just what fans are thinking when it comes to one of the most anticipated casting decisions of the year for his 60 Second Rant.

Well come on the kid looks too young. What is he like 17? I kind of laughed out loud thinking, is This april fools. But, no april fool’s was Justin Bieber playing Finnick. It described in the book that Finnick was 25 due to his age and how long ago he won. My opinion.
Grant Gustin is actually 22 years old, close in age.
Agree Laus he needs to be older I was thinking late 30s or early 40 and of course hot!!! I hope its a somebody we haven’t heard of he also needs to be big tall and strong definitely broad shoulders.
Absolutely not late 30′s early 40′s!!!! he’s 24 in the book FYI!!!!!!!!1 but i would love it if someone unknown played finnick, but i have never heard of grant gustin before, so i like the idea of him playing the role.

i am sorry, but how is an early 20′s person with a baby face, no visible muscle whatsoever, and no acting credentials supposed to play a complex, strong, able bodied character. He does not meet any characteristics of Finnick, and if you want him because you are a gleek, you’re making this movie a fashion contest, not a major motion picture. i’m a fifteen year old male, who doesn’t care about looks, but acting talent, and if you look up any of his acting videos, they are terrible.
Actually, he is a very talented young man. He has been on several television shows, pulled off playing his own murderous twin, makes it good playing a jerk on Glee and is actually quite the sweetheart in real life. When I read the books, all I could picture was him. He plays a seductive creep so well on Glee and remember we have yet to see his tender side. He is 23 years old, and may be skinny but remember Twilight and how quickly Taylor Lautner bulked up to play Jacob. He basically went from 12 to 25 within a matter of months!
AND, he has disappeared off of glee so maybe he did get it.
Jennifer is around 21, so he probably won’t work. He needs to be older. Finnick needs to look older than Katniss, so you need someone who looks about 30 or so.

Its not that he’s too young because he’s 20 something but he just looks young so I don’t think he would be right but I don’t know maybe he can pull it off.

Fogey the older and hotter part, finnick needs to be taller! Imagine that guy holding a trident! Finnick needs to be tall so he can hold the trident with power
the only reason I still like Alex for this part is because we have already seen that he has a great muscle build up on him not to mention he is very tall, I think his looks are very much what I imagine finnick to be like plus I can see him doing to knot scene with Jennifer 
Grant is actually taller than Alex Pettyfer. Alex is 5′ 11″ whereas Grant is 6′ 2″ and I’m sure Grant is capable of building some muscle; actors do it all the time with training. Also, Alex and Grant are the same age (if you want to be technical, Grant is slightly older even) even though I would say Alex looks older. I would love either Alex or Grant & see the knot scene, I do, but I still love the idea of Grant being Finnick because he really is a capable actor and with Glee being his only credit it’d be great if he could use ‘Catching Fire’ as a springboard.
I really think he looks too young. Alex Pettyfer would do much, much better.

I am a fan of Grant Gustin, but I agree… Finnick has to be older than Katniss, and thus, must be older than Jennifer. The actor for Finnick should at least be in his late 20′s to keep the age gap consistent with the books.
Already, Jennifer Lawrence is 21, playing a 16 year old girl (which she was perfectly fit for the role, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better). Finnick is said to be 24 years old. Grant Gustin, does not look at least 24 years old. The actor playing Finnick must LOOK older than Jennifer. It doesn’t necessarily mean he HAS to be older, but he HAS too look older. Grant Gustin looks too young, and he does not have the physical traits that would fit Finnick. Though hair and eye CAN be fixed with dying and contacts, his physique doesn’t match Finnick’s. He is too skinny.
No no no no no! Please no! Finnick is 24 in Catching Fire, this guy looks like he’s just about reaching puberty! Literally anyone else would be better! Plus Finnick has to be not just good looking or easy on the eyes, but HOT! HAWT! I in no way find this guy to be attractive. (Sorry!) Also, does this guy look like he’s worked hard all his life out in the scorching sun in manual labour (and also trained as a career I might add)??? For me, Katniss, Peeta and Finnick are the three characters I really wanted to see done right. Jennifer is just perfect, Josh just exudes the kindness that is everything Peeta, and so i’d love to get a Finnick just as good! Whilst I’m really not a fan of Alex either, (Finnick is kind, good-natured not to mention head-over-heels in love and also more than a bit broken. Alex comes across, to me, as just very arrogant and i’m dubious he has the range to play Finnick and to make him believable!) but i’d prefer him a gajillion times over this Grant guy!
No! I don’t vote for him at all. He’s an absolute no. I love him in Glee, he does great. But he’s not pretty enough to play Finnick.

This guy does not have Finnick eyes. Remember how Katnis comments on his eyes? Also agree with those who say he needs to be older, hotter and taller. The man we need for this role is the lead in White Collar. Can’t remember his name, but he has Finnick written all over him!

It kinda annoys me how alot of the teenage girls fandom decides Finnick should look hot instead of be a good actor. I mean, sure he’s a hot guy in the books, but I’d rather have someone whos acting is similar to Jennifer Lawrence and the Hutch (read: good) rather than someone who’s chosen for their looks. And I certainly don’t want some muscular baby face Finnick, that’s just bizarre…
Please remember, that even though Grant Gustin is 22, he looks alot younger! On top of that, Lawrence and Hutcherson aren’t actually 17 either. So, what I’m trying to say is: nobody would buy it that he’s 24, not in comparison to Katniss and Peeta….
I hope Lawrence(director, not actor) casts Finnick right and doesn’t give in to the loud voices in the “fandom”..

Exactly! Talent needs to take precedence over looks. Nobody wanted Jennifer at first, because she didn’t “look” like Katniss… And look what a phenomenal job she did. Now everybody loves her. Just because a guy has muscles and blue eyes does not mean he should play Finnick! He needs to be talented– so sorry, but let’s just take people like Alex Pettyfer or anybody from Youtube (seriously?) off the list.
LOL I can only imagine what kind of uproar there will be when they do cast Finnick! There are so many mixed opinions that whoever they pick someone will be unhappy! There is so much debate going on over who should be picked as Finnick.

Okay, so he’s good looking, but hey, so is jennifer, josh and liam. Finnick’s supposed to be a god – he won over an entire country just with his looks! We need someone hotter, older, charismatic and complex to play finnick – not just a pretty face.
