Inside District 12 – Driving Through The Seam

My Hunger Games - Henry River Mill Village
As we mentioned the other day, filming on The Hunger Games movie looks set to get underway early next week. The roads into the Henry River Mill Village in Hildebran, NC were due to be closed yesterday, but it seems filming has not begun as originally thought.

Crews are still working away on the exterior sets, setting up what appears to be part of District 12. “Johannafan” lives in the area and decided to do a drive through yesterday. She says:

“You can see clothes hanging on clothes lines, barrels on porches, fire hoses everywhere…They’ve even mowed and sprayed the fields down up to the forest line trying to make the grass look brown and dead? Although you can’t see it on the video, the word “Pastries” is painted on the front of the old store. Although it looks small, alot of the houses down the side roads are blocked off and you can’t see them from the main road.”

So thanks to Johannafam, here’s another look at inside District 12.

WCNC.com in Charlotte reports today that the  production is causing a buzz in the area.  They say more than 1,000 extras are being employed through a casting agency operating out of the closed Philip Morris USA plant in Concord. Fourth Ward Productions – which has an office in Charlotte – is doing location management. And when the cast and crew is done in Hildebran, word is Shelby is next.

In the meantime local TV Reporter Russ Bowen has been tweeting away on the details he’s found out about the production.  Fellow Hunger Games fansite The Girl On Fire has collated his tweets – the details of which he got straight from the filming permit application in Shelby, North Carolina.

He tweets:

Just wanted to let everyone know that filming is in SHELBY, NC not Hildebran, NC dont know where that information is coming from. We are so excited here in Shelby to have the cast and crew come to our small town for such a big movie :o )

  12. Prefer to be Anon if you don't mind says:

Haven’t followed all of what’s been made public and what’s not, but just in case you didn’t know – it’s not just the casting that’s operating out of the phillip morris building in concord. They’re shooting most of the movie there. It’s a huge campus, and they are using some of the existing locations around the facility and inside as well. They are building sets inside some of the really huge factory rooms there too.

  13. PEETA! says:

I didn’t watch the video cuz the audio doesn’t work on my computer but i’m sure it’s a great distrit twelve. Except the still picture doesn’t look run-down enough
