Katniss Everdeen – the best female protagonist ever?
MTV’s Hollywood Crush has taken a while to catch up to the rest of us…declaring what many of us have always known…that Katniss Everdeen is the best female protagonist. Ever!
Kara Warner says that every once in a while, a book comes along that reminds her of why she fell in love with reading in the first place.
The Hunger Games series took all of us to another time and place and for many of us once we picked it up there was NO putting it down.
Kara says:
I’m late to the party on this, I know, but as of last weekend, I am totally and obsessively on board. Never mind the fact that Suzanne Collins‘ story alone is absolutely captivating, jarring and heartbreaking all at once, but our heroine Katniss Everdeen is quite possibly THE best female protagonist ever.
Her post points out that this is a leading lady with REAL problems, survival being first and foremost. As it points out, in the world Katniss lives in, there’s no place for “pithy talk of material goods, gossip, boyfriends; not a word about teenage angst or lingering, swoony glances across a room.” Katniss, Kara writes, is focused on keeping her loved ones alive. And I agree with her wholeheartedly, when she says it’s refreshing.
Kara goes on to explain:
Part of the reason why this “girl who was on fire” appeals so much to me is that she has—even if she doesn’t know it at first—so many of the qualities I admire most in women: strength, resilience, intelligence, independence, self-awareness. More importantly, she is NOT perfect. At all. She struggles with the weight of overwhelming responsibility, second-guesses her actions, self-defensively pushes away her emotions, etc. When young men come into her life, as they are wont to do, Katniss’ initial resistance and self-discovery in this respect is as wonderfully perfect and touching as it is heart wrenching. She is real and raw. And she has stayed with me long after I finished what I hope to be, the final words of her story.

THE best? While I’m a fan of the series, I’ll have to disagree. At the top of my head, my current opinion of Best Protagonist would have to be the leading female (still the best, despite that) in the series “Queen of Glass” by S. J. Mass, Celaena. :3

yeah she is THE BEST beacuase she has somthing that every other female protagonists are missing 1 feelings 2 TRUE love and 3 she care about more than just herself she cares about her sister mother gale peeta haymich and even her prep team she trys to keep them alive and if that doesn’t makeher thebast i don’t know what does
Yes, i do agree Katniss Everdeen is the best female protaganist ever. She is so strong and determined. She is not caught up in some love triangle wholeheartedley like Bella from ‘Twilight’, but she’s brave and wants to keep all she loves alive, but in the end ends up losing many she does love. I really admire Katniss for being brave,bold, and beautiful. She is a wonderful role-model for every women/girl out there, I, myself wish i was more like Katniss myself. I find Katniss Everdeen is very charming with her bow and arrow; an object i have always wished to master! Haha, yes but Katniss is very wonderful.
Okay. This one is a no-brainer for me; Katniss is quite possibly the most real character ever imagined. She is right up there with Maximum Ride, and I’m sorry Mr. Patterson, sir, but I think she deserves the top spot. It’s almost as if she took on a life of her own. Some female characters are awesome, of course, but they just don’t seem like REAL people. Goodbye, Maximum Ride, HELLO Katniss!!!!

Damn straight Katniss is the best. I absolutely admire her, although she’s just a character in a book, I can’t help feel that when I read the words on the page, she’s as real as anyone of us.

the leading character, hero, or heroine of a drama or other literary work.
& I can bet you that Katniss Everdeen is the best protagonist I’ve ever read… No word of a lie

Yes. Katniss is AMAZING. She struggles just like us. She is realistic. She is not some stupid clumsy girl who falls in love (puppy love) with a sparkly vampire.
