Maria Howell on playing Seeder in Catching Fire
It’s not been long since Lionsgate announced that Maria Howell will play the District 11 tribute Seeder in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and she’s already had a chat to North Carolina Hollywood about her new role.
Maria told them that it was hard keeping the secret.
“I knew for close to two weeks now,” Howell told us via telephone, “but I was sworn to secrecy and couldn’t say anything about it until they said something, and today was the day.”
She said it was “difficult like I don’t know what” to keep quiet for so long, but was happy to express her enthusiasm for the role now that the news is out.
Maria goes on to say that she’s excited about being part of Catching Fire as she hopes it will spread the spectrum of what she can do:
“Sometimes you can get into a certain kind of role and people try to pigeonhole you. I never really wanted to be pigeonholed. I’ve always wanted to be more of a character actor in the sense that the world is wide open for all the different things that I can do. Revolution was the start of that.”
I think she’s perfect for Seeder and can’t wait to see her in Catching Fire.

I think they will make her look 25 years older, but she will be very strong for the physicality of the role.
“I knew for close to two weeks now,” Howell told us via telephone, “but I was sworn to secrecy and couldn’t say anything about it until they said something, and today was the day.”
I think this probably means Finnick is already cast and all we’re waiting for is the official announcement.
