Mockingjay Countdown Contest
It’s just two months until the release of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and Hunger Games fans around the world can’t wait. In the meantime, here at My Hunger Games, we love to speculate as to just what will be revealed in the Mockingjay. We love discussing theories and always look forward to hearing yours.
One group of fans though, has come up with a creative way to countdown to August 24. They’re hosting a fan fiction contest. The “Countdown to Mockingjay” Contest is designed to let fans theorize what will happen to their favorite characters in the final book of the series.
Their site says:
This fanfic contest is designed to feature fics containing theories and possibilities regarding the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The guidelines are pretty loose. Any length, any rating, any character, any paring, one-shot, multi-chapter, the sky is the limit! The only major rule: It has to be post-Catching Fire.
Entries are due by July 12th with winners to be announced on August 2nd.

I was unable to enter, but here’s my thoughts…
HAYMITCH AND PRESIDENT SNOW:

First of all, Haymitch is my favorite character. Despite all that Katniss thinks, he has managed to keep both her and Peeta alive against everything the Capitol has done to them. And he’s the most clever character in the book, with Peeta a close second.
So what’s to compare with President Snow? Think about it. Catching Fire reveals that both of them are thought of as “playwrites”— President Snow with the Games, Haymitch with Katniss and the rebellion — although Katniss sees Haymitch’s side as unfair and deceiving. Haymitch was only doing an amazingly clever and thoughtout plan, with Katniss in the center of all the chaos.
I think that in the Mockingjay, they will have some kind of battle. I at least hope so. It’s obvious that they hate each other, and someone’s bound to stand up to President Snow. And somehow, I think Haymitch will die… which would be heartbreaking.
