More Hunger Games Script Speculation
Yet another media outlet claims to have their hands on The Hunger Games script. Life & Style say they’ve exclusively obtained it and can reveal the “juicy details of how the story’s been changed for the big screen.”
We’re hoping that what they’re reporting on is the draft written by Billy Ray … you can check out the comments here for a rundown on what that script contains, thanks to Kristi (her account contains spoilers)
But here’s what Life & Style have to say:
Like Twilight, the most addictive part of the saga will be the love triangle between its three stars, played by sexy newcomers X-Men: First Class star Jennifer Lawrence, The Kids Are All Right’s Josh Hutcherson and Miley Cyrus’ on-and-off again beau Liam Hemsworth. But in The Hunger Games book, the first in Suzanne Collins’ series, Liam’s character is largely absent since he doesn’t compete in the Hunger Games (an annual staged fight to the death between one teen boy and one teen girl). Life & Style can reveal that in the script, scenes have been added in to give the heartthrob a larger role on-screen and make the love triangle steamier and a bigger aspect early on in the franchise.
And while the book is mainly set inside the Arena, where the characters battle in The Hunger Games, moviegoers will also get to see behind-the-scenes moments set outside the stadium, showcasing the fighters’ mentor Haymitch, played by Woody Harrelson.

*first comment* Oh no they are going to *ruin* this!!! I think Gale should be in the story at the parts he needs to be, and then a few shots of him looking at the TV screen in shock. That’s it.
They’re making all the books. We have plenty of time to root for Gale in Catching Fire and Mockingjay. I hope that they respect the book. Frankly, Gale just isn’t a huge part of a large portion of the book. He’s there pre-reaping and then he’s gone. The triangle is always there, she frequently thinks about him and wishes he was there, is glad that he isn’t, etc etc. so we still see Gale and Katniss’ inner conflict, so if they keep his role minimal and keep his a$$ in District 12, fine. I just really don’t want them to take away from the story as a whole just to work more Love Triangle into the movie.
The story is a good story. It is a popular story. There are so many elements to it that people love. The Love Triangle is always there, but they shouldn’t vamp it up excessively just to make sure a cute guy is in the movie more, ya know?
Like Life & Style is a reliable source…
I really hope that they do NOT change it so much., isn’t losing Madge enough?
I jus hope this movie Cumz out fantastic not too many changes ppplleeeaassee n they should just show gale’s reactions to the games like wen peeta n katniss kiss or like wen sheez fighting
Yes, I can’t wait for this movie… I hope it’s good! I wish I can act in the movies… if anything I’m auditioning for Annie (if I ever hear about a casting call)
Part of me honestly doubts this is real but you know leaks like this happen a prime example is the 5th twilight book or something like that- the whole thing was posted online.
Anyway I don’t want them to mainly focus on the love triangle if they dismiss the action as a secondary plot they have got it all wrong. it’ll be another half blood-prince where they decided to drown all of the important stuff for romance…
If they do drown the action out it’ll be ruined!
@Artemis- girl on fire:
I think Lionsgate already announced they would just toss any pictures for casting you send in for the hunger games and just go for the big name actors. Honestly, I totally disagree with this as unknown fans deserve the chance and stuff. Plus they got a very good Harry Potter cast mostly through fan-casting.
I don’t think they have read it, I just think they are reporting leeked ‘information’ from that squipt from he other week
Their really not going for fan casting this time like they did fer Harry potter so it kinda sux:-/
Okay so what if he isn’t in most of the first movie??? he’s in all of Mockingjay! how do you think the actor who plays Katniss’ dad feels about only being in a flashback? Anyway… Yeah. They probably haven’t read it and who knows if its true or not… it’s in a magazine. You can’t trust much. But if this is so? Gale better be in District Twelve in his scenes not trying to sneak into the capital or whatever.
@Marryanna
Oh, I know I wont be cast but I want to be in :3
My friends and I are thinking about shooting our own fan-made Hunger Games movie, just for fun.
I hope there isn’t TOO much emphasis on the love triangle. Yes, it’s a part of the story, but it’s certainly not a major focus in the first book. The closer they stay to the original, the better.
Just keep the movie the same as the book. All fans would be happy. You can add him in some parts like, maybe show whats happening at home. Like when they interveiw the final 8′s family and friends. I agree with Ly. The love triangle isn’t really the major focus in the first one. In Catching Fire, duh! Mockingjay, yup. Just not the first one…..
For the fans sake, leave it alone. More of the book fans will go. And without us there would be a less chance of a movie. So, keep it, please!
All I know s tht this movie better live uhhp to the amazing book
Alright, guys…
FIRST, look at the source.. it’s Life & Style Magazine!!! They are NOT a liable source!
Reading the article it’s very obvious that they’re reporting on the first draft of the script that Billy Ray revised. NOT the one Suzanne Collins and Gary Collins wrote together in collaboration. I know, because I was one of the few sad people that read that draft of the script when it leaked.
The author of the article obviously doesn’t know anything extra that the rest of the public knows. They are basically just talking about a draft of the script that they don’t even realize is not being used anymore. Note that there aren’t even any direct quotes about the “steaminess” of the draft they are USING from official people like Gary Ross or Suzanne Collins.
I am getting so tired of the media pretending this is another Twilight romance.
I applaude Jennifer Lawrence for rejecting that with the answer “It’s a very violent futuristic movie where kids are selected from their home districts to fight in an arena to the death … but we don’t drink blood. That’s sick.” (quote is from David Letterman interview)
why can’t they just go for the BOOK ONLY……ONLY!!!….
i just think they should stay to the book flat on.. but this is a rumor..

Yea guys, I agree with everyone that the movie MUST stay true to the book, but Kristi is right. L and S are just trying to get in an interesting story. Isn’t that what all tabloids do? I can’t be sure, but I’m faithful to Suzanne and Gary that they created a script that is much a like the actual book. Not about some teenage romance, but about the sick Capitol, war, and oppression. I have to admit, I’m scared that Lionsgate is just going to push the love triangle too hard just to roll in more cash. But can we please not have another Twilight?!? I’m a guy here, and sorry, but that doesn’t interest me as much.. Sure, the romance in the Hunger Games is fine, but that’s because it’s not the main focus.. So, I guess all we can do is wait and see for the trailer and ultimately the movie to see what happens to this amazing and unique story.
Was not her first series…..
“ONE teen girl and ONE teen boy?” Wtheck? Did they even read the books? And since when is 12 a teen?
I think that if this is true that it will only make the movie better. We can’t expect the movie to be EXACTLY like the book. If it was we all know it would be a very poor comparison. If the movie is differant from the book but still has the same plot, of course, then it sould be a very good movie. I am counting down the days till it releases. Who’s with me on that one?
The movie needs to stay true to the book!! Gale needs to stay in District12!! Im so team Peeta and Gale shouldn’t ruin this!!
Such a childish drama.. OMG they are going to change this, OMG they are going to change that.. OMG OMG!!!
God, just grow up already.
First, they are going to do what’s the best for the movie, and I trust the author to have a word or two on what to change from the book.
Second, the book and the movie are 2 different things.. we won’t be able to ‘hear’ katniss thinking about gale, so we have to really see them being close, you won’t get to see the inner struggle (like you can read about in on paper), so you’ll need some facts to cover up for it. some things are better described in words, some other are better described in images… so you might complain all you want but in the end they will change what they need to change to bring this movie to life ON SCREEN. (I don’t say I like it, because I don’t, but this is how things work)
One more thing, i don’t know if you know the Australian author Melina Marchetta, but she has a very nice article on her blog about how hard it is for her to write the script for one of her books, because she knows that the visual version of her book needs to be different from the one we know as readers, just because on screen some things are not as good as on paper.
I think that all her worries are the same as the ones S.C. is dealing with right now, with all the decisions she has to make that she knows that will upset you (leaving Madge out of the story for example) but she has to do it, because she already told her story in the books and now she has to show it to the world but in a totally different way (and some times you have to change some things to appeal to the new public… remember that the book fans and the movie fans are not one and the same thing, and the writing techniques and the ‘visual’ ones are also 2 different things).
Now, you can argue with me, you can contradict me, you can say that you won’t see the movie if they change some things – but you will (look at all the twilight fans that hated the movie, me included, and still went to watch it)… all I am saying is that you should think a bit out of the box, because some things are just bigger that what you think.
PS: also you change your minds so easily:
“oh, I hate Jen, she is so blond and fat, so not Katniss alike”..
“oh, now she has dark hair and she is funny, I want to be her friend”..
you see, this is just a simple example..
let them do their job and then you can say what is wrong with it and why, and if you would have liked it better.. and so on
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!! stay to the book! how dare they even think about changing it!! did i already mention NO!!!!?
idk but thats prob an early draft becuz suzanne helped with the current script so we should trust her..hopefuly its a rumor
new fanmade poster

Uuhhggg it really annoys me how they said “The film is Jucier than the book!” SHUT UP! THE BOOK IS AWESOME AND THEY ARE CHANGING IT TO MUCH!
I think that if the changes were made by Suzanne Collins then they will be fine. But I also think that you have to stay true to the book to a degree. I get somewhat changing the book for the movie but you can’t completely change the theme and message. The Hunger Games is not a romance. This book was meant to be heartbreaking. It was supposed to remind you of the children dying all over the world because of poverty and war. The message wasn’t “everyone has a sole mate” or something romantic like that. I think that if you expand or show more of the bond between Katniss and Gale then you will stray too far away from the original message. I also think though that if Suzanne collins approves then we will have to suck it up and go with it. No matter what I’m sure the movies will be as amazing as the books.
Because that’s what we all need, another movie series like Twilight :/
The love triange is not the focus of the hunger games books. It is the focus of the twilight books. Making the love triangle the centre of the twilight movies is fine (if you like that sort of thing) because it follows the books. Doing that to the hunger games would be horrible, it is just so much more than that. The love triange is interesting but Katniss doesn’t think that it’s as important as other things. So neither should we.
And what does this magazine know about it anyway. (I quote: “an annual staged fight to the death between one teen boy and one teen girl” Correction. 12 teen boys and 12 teen girls.)
I understand why Gale might be given a bigger role because the only place where we see Katniss and Gale’s past is in Katniss’s head. I thought that they could maybe do flashbacks or something like that instead but if Suzanne Collins is writting it then I’m going to trust that it’ll be the right choice for the movie.
do not compare the hunger games to twilight ever again.
I read the article in this magazine, and some of the changes that it said the movie was SUPPOSED to have actually sound pretty good! I love the books so at first I was nervous about them changing it for the movie, but now I think all us fans should just be excited that it will be a movie… And have an open mind for what they tweak to make them movie better!!!
Oh no….. you’re joking. They’re going to ruin this movie. It’s not a love story. It’s a story of courage and will, and friendship. I will have a HUGE problem with the director if he turns this movie into something it isn’t. And I’ll also have a problem if Suzanne Collins lets him.
SUZANNE COLLINS HELPED WRITE THE SCRIPT. Don’t you trust the woman who wrote this series in the first place? The changes made will be made because they’re nessecary, or because they’ll help the movie.
I agree, KayCFoShizz. Gosh. LOVE TRIANGLES BORE ME!!! XD
if it focuses on the love triangle Iand not the action will walk out of the theater
I really hope that they don’t foccus on the love triangle TOO much. I beilieve it’s an important concept of the books but i don’t want it to be like twilight. Twilight was a romance anyway and the hunger games is an action/sci-fi book. I think they should foccus on all the other emotions just as equally as the love triangle. The book is alot more about the action so the movie should be too!
I was so glad when i heard the suzzane collins is helping to write the script!
@arianna
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also they need to stop comparing different book series they already triggered another HP vs. Twilight war with the Hunger Games ugh honestly!!!! Have they ever been in a fight with stubborn hardcore fans it isn’t pretty.
I hope they stay to the book. It’d would be perfectly fine if they made it exactly to the book. It would definetly be a frist if they did
as long as the only extra parts Gale is in is scenes from back home, im fine with that. infact i thought about that sometimes while i was reading. when it was a bit of a slow day in the arena i sometimes thought about what the viewers back home were doing or thinking. but if they have Gale showing up at the arena or even the capitol like there was rumors of before. . .there are no words to explain the uproar from fans of the book. im gonna have someones head! you dont have to use EVERY detail from the book, that would be way too long of a movie. but you better include all of the important aspescts, and DO NOT add your own shit! theres enough in the book to make a full, AMAZING movie!
