My Hunger Games Cast Countdown – Amanda Plummer
Welcome to Cast Countdown with Hamilton. I will be regularly introducing a member of the Catching Fire cast and discussing what it is that they will be bringing to the role of their character. Fair warning, just in case you have not yet read the books, there may be spoilers here.
Amanda Plummer as Wiress
About Wiress: Wiress is a tribute from District 3 and past victor of the Games. She’s a bit younger than Mrs. Everdeen – somewhere in her 30′s – and is described as having ashen skin and black hair. Though a genius – something which helps Katniss a great deal – she’s a bit eccentric, rarely finishing a sentence, leading the other tributes to give her the nickname “Nuts.” Once in the arena again she snaps, breaking down into what seems to be babbling nonsense. About Amanda Plummer: The daughter of award winning actor Christopher Plummer, she is probably best known as “Honey Bunny” from the opening and closing scenes of Pulp Fiction, a character that was just a tad extreme and unstable. Plummer has a habit of playing characters with some mental instability and quirks, receiving an Emmy for her portrayal of a schizophrenic in Law and Order: SVU. She herself is known for being quiet, reclusive, and a little eccentric. Appearance wise she doesn’t have the black hair, but she has the pale skin and the “wiry” frame that I would imagine the character to have. She’s a bit older (55) than the character, but she also has something of an age ambiguous look to her so I think that’s alright, especially since Wiress’ age is never explicitly stated.
Having seen her in both Pulp Fiction and SVU I have to say that I think this casting is spot on. She can very intense and very off kilter while remaining believable. While Wiress doesn’t have that large of a role in the book, her character is quite important to the plot and I’m glad it’s being handled by someone of this caliber.

From how she looks which is exactly how I imagined Wiress, and also that I saw her acting in Pulp Fiction and it was amazing (Although she appeared in one scene, literally) I think she’ll do a great job. I’m happy with the casting till now, well at least the ones that got official.

I like her for 3 reasons:
1) She looks the part
2) She looks like a good actress
3) She wasn’t rumoured at all, suggesting (hopefully) that those playing Finnick or Beetee haven’t been rumoured either.
I’m not that worried about the age difference between Amanda (55) and Wiress (30-something). In my mind, it seems that a lot (if not all) Victors lead a somewhat hard life after their games, and that amount of stress is going to affect their appearance. Maybe Wiress is 35-38 but the life she’s lead since her games may have aged her beyond her years. Her life has certainly affected her mental state, why not her physical appearance as well. I’ve seen several of Amanda’s films and she plays physchologically damaged women with riveting results. So, yeah, I totally support Amanda as Wiress! I know she’s going to be absolutely brilliant!
I totally agree with the stress and aging factors. Even people today look older than they are if they have a stressful job so just imagine a victor.
i agree with the ageing thing but betee and wiress are ment to be 40-50 in the books arnt they ? not 30? so she will be perfect!
This is an unexpected and fantastic casting choice. I am so pleased with the caliber of actors chosen so far! Jena Malone may have a bit to prove considering her company.
I am with ticktock12 100%. I hope the actors for Beetee and Finnick haven’t been rumored either.
im shore sam is going to be finnick evan tho its just roumours im pritty shore , i think he is an interesting choice and i realy hope the dude that plays monk the detective will be betee he would be fantastic!

Cherry Jones from 24 should be cast as President Coin, she’s perfect, just watch Season 8 of 24, no doubt she is Coin.
I totally agree with you Hunger Games Mom! But I don’t think that Amanda Plummer should be Wiress. For some reason I pictured her as chunky.

I personally think that she’d make a great Wiress, she seems perfect for the role in my opinion. (:
i htink wiress should have had a little younger look with longer hair. butt other than that amanda should play wiress. but i cried when wiress died in the book. i kinda grown attached to her.
i think that Benjamin Stone should play Finnick hes totally perfect!!
