Phillip Seymour Hoffman offered role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The first big news for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is out. Jeff Sneider of “Variety” has posted on Twitter (@TheInSneider) that Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
Before we get too excited, we still don’t know if Hoffman has accepted to be the next Head Gamemaker in the film.
Lionsgate has not commented on the casting claim.
Catching Fire is due to start shooting in September in Atlanta and possibly Hawaii.
Do you think casting Hoffman would be a good choice for Plutarch Heavensbee? Personally, I think he’d be amazing. Let us know what you think in the comments.

How do we know this is true?
omg i dont know if this is true or not
Yeah…okay. I always thought of Plutarch as Andrew Braugher. I heard his voice when Plutarch spoke. Hoffman has a tremendous range so it could be interesting to see what he does with the character. However, he has a fine line to walk as he is NOT supposed to be the Lead, drawing attention to himself. He has to be large and in-charge, but also in the background. He doesn’t get alot of play in Catching Fire. Also, he is only 5’10″ which will be shorter than Katniss if she is wearing any type of heal. We will see, I guess.
For the height they can edit to make him look taller and they have special shoes so I dont think they really think about that
Oh my god, I never would have thought he would make a good Plutarch, but now I think he would make an amazing Plutarch! I hope it’s true and I hope he accepts!
They wouldn’t have to worry about casting Plutarch for this movie if someone would have casted “Man falling into punch bowl” in the first one. Just saying
u know whats funny even though he wasnt on the voting thing he would be good i think. so just like most people say just let the director do his thing and who ever he picks will be amazing
H needs to shave and dye his hair
i think he’d be perfect, that’s exactly how i pictured plutarch to look
I think he will be amazing. What a great choice! I just found this video interview that gives a sense of the range this actor has. My guess is they will do some scenes with just Plutarch and Snow, as they did in HG, and I can’t wait to see Hoffman and Sutherland together.
