Jeffrey Wright as Beetee in Catching Fire

The news is now official and public, Jeffrey Wright is our Beetee for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘.

Looking back at ’Catching Fire’ for a moment, Beetee is described as having ill-fitting glasses, along with ashen skin and black hair. According to the book, he should be in his 50′s or 60′s. When he is speaking on matters other than technology, Beetee is described as nervous and twitchy.

Now we at My Hunger Games want to know what you think. What do you think of the casting? Does Jeffrey Wright match Beetee in your mind? If not, do you think he’ll be able to pull off the part?

Take our poll below and tell us your thoughts in the comments!

    Folks,

The word is spelled R O L E as in ‘a part or character played by an actor or actress’ e.g., role model.

ROLL means ‘to move along a surface by revolving or turning over and over, as a ball or a wheel’ e.g., Let’s Roll!

  2. Peeta rocks says:

If he is supposed to have ashen skin why is he African American?

  3. Jen says:

Hmm…… Not How I truly imagined Beetee… but I guess he suits the role if Lionsgate said so…

  4. Mark says:

Not even close to who I imagined or who I thought could work. It’s the first time I didn’t really like a casting choice by this team, but I’m willing to give him a try. Why not!? You can’t change it and they chose him for some great reason! :)

  5. Johanna says:

I’m just glad Monk wasn’t cast. I never liked that idea very much.

Make-up department’s got their work cut out for them in making Amanda look younger than Jeffrey or making Jeffrey look older than Amanda… unless they’re switching the ages on those characters. *shrugs*

  6. Love of Peeta says:

Ashen is a tone not a color so anyone can have ashen skin and he does have black hair. I don’t doubt for second that he can act so I’ll bite. Plus has anyone seen him looking over a pair of glasses I’ll be looking forward to see what he brings to the character.

  7. not what i saw him at all… i actually saw David Tennant as my number one beetee! because of his role in doctor who! But hey, if they’ve cast him, he’s gotta be good. Makeup can do their thing and if he’s working on the catching fire movie he’s gotta have talent

  8. ADVENTURE TIME says:

NOOOOO! DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE HOW I IMAGENED BEETEE

    • 76Kat says:

      No one cares.
You should be worried about his acting ability not his appearance. That is what they have makeup artists for. He isn’t how I pictured Beetee either but I have confidence in the casting directors and trust they thought he was the perfect choice for Beetee.

      • ADVENTURE TIME says:

i get what your saying that is what they have make up artist for thanks for telling me something i hadn’t thought about

  9. Michelle says:

I don’t much care as long as I get to stare at Peeta again for 2+ hours!

  10. ADVENTURE TIME says:

does the director and casting director eveing care on how they LOOK! all they care about is how they act! they should have picked micheal emerson or some other person who looks like beetee they coukld have done it if they gave them a chance, jeffery wright looks nothing like him, WHY HIM!

  11. The Girl On Fire says:

WHO THOUGHT MICHAEL EMERSON WAS THE MOST PERFECT BEETEE EVER?!

  12. Tamar says:

Beetee and Wiress are described in the book as “small in stature with ashen skin and black hair.” (I kinda pictured them as Asian when I read the book.) I think the technical definition of “ashen” is pale, isn’t it? Jeffrey Right doesn’t seem to fit that description. Of course make up artists can make people look older or younger or of a different race (to a degree) but they usually don’t. It’s a lot more popular to hire people who look the part if the age or race of a character is important.

I know there were some really racist jerks who were disappointed last time that Rue and Thresh were black. They apparently they paid no attention to the fact that they were described as having “dark brown” skin in the book. Kinda makes me wonder whether the director thought of that and leaned toward hiring an actor who wouldn’t even look the part, to prove a point. Probably not but it would be kinda funny.

I’m confused by this statement from KJ: “Actually, there are unlimited colors of skin and ONLY African American’s burn to an ash color. They come by it naturally.” People burn to an ash color?

    • KJ says:

When blacks sunburn, their skin turns ash colored instead of turning red as some whites do. Some whites don’t burn, they immediately tan. Some whites burn, then tan. Blacks can burn, but their skin turns ash colored.
