Rumor: Is Sam Claflin Finnick Odair?
While nothing official has been announced by Lionsgate yet regarding the casting of Finnick, Zap2it claims they’ve learned that Sam Claflin has been offered the role and just has to accept now.
Sources tell Zap2it exclusively that the most coveted role in “The Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire” has been cast — and British actor Sam Claflin has got the gig. Official reps for the film won’t comment on the casting, but our reliable sources reveal that producer Nina Jacobson and Lionsgate have signed off on Clafin’s offer.

The British actor is best known for playing Kristen Stewart’s childhood sweetheart, William, in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” He also had a role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” as Philip.

Hope not. He’s very mediocre when it comes to looks, good looking but not the Finnick good looks.

See, I agree. He is attractive, but when I read all the Hunger Games books I always had a certain face in mind. Then when I watched Beastly it was him. Alex Pettyfer. I mean the one they are casting as Finnick, doesn’t strike me as smug. Finnick should be smug, sexy, and if anything muscular. Not photoshopped.
I kind of agree. I mean, he’s really good looking, but Finnick is supposed to be the sexiest thing ever to happen to Panem. He’s got to be hot enough to make me forget about Peeta.

While I definitely think he can do the job after watching him in Snow White and the Huntsman with Finnick in mind…I am thinking about all the prep time that will be involved to remove all that body hair.
Might want to invest in a No-No hair removal system! ;>)

Honestly, I find it really hard to believe they were going to find someone that would satisfy everyone’s vision for Finnick. I didn’t have that expectation. It’s nearly impossible to find someone to embody someone as perfectly described as Finnick. I just hoped they would find someone who was a good actor and not just another pretty face. I like Sam and I’d be really excited if he got the part because he’s very talented. Obviously they picked him to be in the running for a reason. And so what if he’s not everyone’s vision of drop-dead gorgeous? He’s good-looking, talented, and deserves a shot so I’m supporting him. Everyone’s image of Finnick is different, it’s just up to people to give Sam the benefit of the doubt that he’ll do a good job.

I don’t think this site has chosen one of the best images of Sam. He’s really not bad looking (at least the pictures I’ve seen) but I’m personally now hoping that Hunter Parrish gets the role. This is only a rumor—so our fandom should keep that in mind for now. But Finnick isn’t described as a god, although he is very good-looking and rather charming, but there is the “right” choice for Finnick somewhere on this earth, I promise. Something we really *must* keep in mind is that the Finnick we have in our minds, more than likely doesn’t exist—that or he’s an actor. And you’d be amazed what makeup and clothes and Hollywood’s magical touch can do to help a person fit a role.
We witnessed what Lionsgate/Gary Ross/Makeup Team can do with hair dye: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson. So it is possible to change.
@KJ – How do you know Sam’s hairy? Have you, like, personally seen him naked or something? Because that on his face is really just scruff and can be shaved off in under a minute.
I was looking at the chest hair in the open collar and the preponderance of hair under his chin.
Also, he had a full inch scruff in SW and The Huntsman. He was hairy there, as well. Which was fine for that role.
I think he will be GREAT as Finnick. I think he has the acting chops, the personality, and the physicality. I just think he will spend a lot of time in prep. ;>)

Still hoping for Garrett Hedlund, to be honest. (fingers crossed!!!!!!) Don’t think this guy is Finnick-level hot, but he’s certainly better than that guy from Glee…
honestly, no one is going to live up to our perfect expectation for finnick, but when i saw him in pirates of the carribean, i thought he was really attractive, and everyone quit complaining because it could’ve been like twilight where they actually thought they were hiring someone attractive…. but failed

It’s really going to be hard finding Finnick. He is described as very hot basically. And everyone has a different image of what’s hot. So he can’t be what all of us want him to be. Not everyone is going to be happy. I still want Lauchlan Buchanan though.
I’m sorry I do not agree with this. If Finnick is a HOT character I think they missed the mark on this on. If Lionsgate wants HOT then they should be looking Chace Crawford’s way for Finnick. Chace is the true defination of HOT.
Chace has herpe lips.
He has potential, but still not as manly as I pictured Finninck. Looks like there is some beefing up that needs to be done (although that is entirely possible). Haven’t seen any of his movies, so I have no idea how talented he is. Not the worst choice they could have made.

I don’t know much about this actor, but when I clicked the link to this page and this particular photo appeared, I immediately thought Sam was the one. He has that devilish look in his eyes that I associate with the first time Katniss meets him (at the Quarter Quell opening ceremony, offering her sugar cubes). I do hope they are casting for the quirky, sensitive nature of Finnick as well as for his raw good looks.
I just searched him on google images, and they most definately did not pick the most attractive pic of him. He is good looking and I think that he will do good as Finnick. But I didn’t picture Finnick like that at all. I pictured him kinda like Kellan Lutz but not quite as buff. But whoever ends up playing Finnick will b good cause they cast these people for a reason.
His performance wasn’t that memorable in SWaTH and teh thing with Finnick is he’s such a complex, damaged character (as is Johanna) so to be able to really do justice to that is to cast a very capable actor. If it wasn’t for obvious reasons I would have liked Jennifer to play Finnick. Haha!

Go look him up. They picked a pretty bad picture above. He is 5’11″, Green Eyes, and dimples. He has a great smile when he shows his teeth. Watch some of the broadcasts done for Pirates’ or SWaTH. He’ll clean up nicely. It is the personality that will win. I think the girls will be swooning by the time CF is out.
I could also see either. Both could do a good job and both are cute. We will find out when they finally pick though, and who knows, they may pick someone completely different. Though I wouldn’t mind in the least if it was one of the two.
