Rumor Wednesday: Lionsgate wants Robert Pattinson for ‘Catching Fire’?
The rumor making the rounds about the web today is that ‘The Hunger Games‘ production company Lionsgate wants the ‘Twilight’ star for the sequel, ‘Catching Fire‘.
The blog Think McFly Think has reported that Lionsgate is after Robert Pattinson to play the role of the beloved Finnick Odair in
‘Catching Fire‘. Under the direction of Gary Ross, this seems like a ridiculous claim, since Ross had effectively banned any ‘Twilight’ stars from being “reaped” into ‘The Hunger Games’. However Pattinson does have one connection with the sequel, and a pretty big one. New director Francis Lawrence worked with Robert on ‘Water For Elephants’, and who is to say he feels the same about crossing the Twilight/Hunger Games boundary as Ross did?
Lionsgate has no comment on the rumor, telling the Huffington Post “As with the first film, we won’t be confirming, denying or commenting any casting rumors for this title.” So everyone hearing this rumor, whether it is good news to you or not, please bear in mind that no casting decisions have been made. As soon as official word is out, we will let you know!

I actually think he’d make a good finnick odair- did anyone here see him play Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire? I actually think he’d do a good job. People here, you’re judging his acting style based on ONE of the MANY films he has been in. He has been in more than twilight everyone… but yes, I do think he would play the role well. and if not him, then I want Davey Havok of AFI.
I’m not saying he couldn’t be great Finnick, I mean we all know he can be flirty and all that stuff, but IMO it would be too much if ‘Edward’ was playing Finnick. There are so many other great actors suitable for the role of Finnick, so they should just skip Rob and keep THG and Twilight separate, just like Gary Ross did.
I am definitely on your side with this! Robert Pattinson has been in many other movies than Twilight and has great acting skills. I think he’d make a pretty amazing Finnick!
Um… Have you seen the other movies he’s been in? He plays the same role in every movie. Good actor… eh… mediocre at best. To me he ruined his appearance to us when he did Twilight and was horrible as an actor. (Grant it, they all did horrible in that series) And before you go off on me because I just smacked the crap out of twilight, really watch the movie series and the ‘acting’ and tell me they were good.
They brought up twilight out of the “many others”…. That’s enough to rip my hair out in stress…

I have nothing against the actor but honestly I don’t think he has it in him to play Finnick. He’s a bit stoic in his acting no matter what role he plays and while that may be good in some characters it wouldn’t be good for Finnick. Plus I would really rather not have Twilight and THG mixing. It would be too creepy.

He was great as Cedric in Goblet of Fire, but I just want the two franchises separate.
In a way I think this would be bad because those that don’t like Twilight will stray from the film itself. But the plus is, those that ‘fancy’Edward will see it just to see Pattinson in the HG films. Pattinson isn’t a finnick in my eyes, though if they had to pull a twilight star I’d pick Kellan Lutz. I saw him in Immortals as poseidon and he won me over. He already has experience with a trident.

You know how turned off I would be if he was cast as Finnick? I would be basically okay with anyone else as long as they felt the actor was perfect for Finnick. If they choose him though I would strongly disapprove no matter how they felt. Also The Hunger Games would become the laughing stock of everyone on the internet who dislikes it.

Honestly, given a few of the comments Pattinson has made in regards to the hype around Twilight I think he would avoid getting involved in another mega franchise. I think that even if they ask he’ll say no.
OMG, and why not just cast Kristen Stewart as Annie?! Hey, you know, that’s not a bad idea. Annie’s described as a “lovely if somewhat bedraggled” young woman with dark flowing hair and dark green eyes. That describes Kristen to a T!
Robert Pattinson is one of the worst actors I have seen to try and portray a teenager. I am probably the biggest hunger games fan in Alabama, but I’d he was finnick I’d boycott the film.
I agree. He wasn’t good in Harry Potter, he was awful in Twilight (I mean, the books aren’t good to start with but his acting was so boring that Taylor Lautner became interesting) and didn’t get any better in Remember Me.
I haven’t seen him recently because I avoid any movies with him in it, he just can’t seem to be able to give any emotion to any of his characters.
Aside from not being a good actor, he also is in no way the right one for Finnick. He has no passion, and I cannot imagine him either as Finnick in Catching Fire : seductive, violent, greek-god like ; or in Mockingjay : vulnerable, confused, and the only one who understands what Katniss is going through.
And if he is chosen to portray Finnick, I won’t go watch Catching Fire, even if it makes me die a little inside =(.

I’m not a Twilight fan, but I won’t hate on Robert Pattinson– he was great as Cedric Diggory and I don’t mind him as an actor. But come on. He is just too recognizable as Edward Cullen to jump into another hugely recognizable role right away. I seriously doubt he would take it, too. I have a feeling that he’ll want to do a few indies to build up some cred after starring in probably the most critically panned series of films in a long time.
Not Alex Pettyfer, either. Yuck. Go with someone more unknown, late-ish 20s, and a stellar actor. Looks are less important to me, as long as they give him bronze hair, which hair dye can accomplish. But that’s just my two cents.

I’m sorry, how can you say he’s a good actor when all of his roles are the exact same? I agree with Gary Ross. They shouldn’t cast anyone from Twilight. It would be best if they pick someone who’s not very famous or been in the spotlight too long. Although, I think Zac Efron, Alex Pettyfer and Grant Justin would be appropriate for the role. I don’t have anything against Robert Pattinson, but it would just be so wrong for him to play anyone in The Hunger Games. Firstly, I think the role of Finnick should go to someone who isn’t as well known in Hollywood. It’s a huge role, and it could really jumpstart a young actor’s career.
Secondly, I think Robert would turn it down. He is aware of how big franchises are, and after having to do the Twilight films for 4 years and the “fame” that it brought him, I don’t think he’d want that again. I think he’d want some downtime & privacy after all that, to be honest. I would, anyways. In his interviews, he doesn’t seem enthusiastic in talking about Twilight… hopefully I’m not the only one who thinks/observes this?
TL;DR- Give another young actor a chance. Please.
