Sizing up The Hunger Games at the MTV Movie Awards

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie

We love The Hunger Games, and no doubt you do too – but what are the chances that it will take home a bunch of awards at this year’s MTV Movie Awards?

Next Movie decided to take a look at the nine  categories The Hunger Games has been nominated in and made some predictions about whether they’ll take home the award.

You can check out the article here, but in the meantime, here’s what they say about the top three nominations:

Movie of the Year

“The Hunger Games” is something of a freshman franchise at the moment, and it’s sharing this major category with a hip senior classman (“Harry Potter”) and a very popular junior (“Breaking Dawn – Part 1″). Even putting aside the massively successful “The Help” and “Bridesmaids” which are also nominated, the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” fanbases will be tough to beat, especially since many “Hunger Games” fans stem from one or both of those fan groups and may still have a little click loyalty for them. There’s a chance ”The Hunger Games” could take this prize home, but it may be a little slim.
Our Bet: Lose

Best Female Performance

Jennifer Lawrence has this category in the bag. While Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone and Rooney Mara also present some fresh blood for the nomination list and Emma Watson’s got a plethora of “Harry Potter” fans at her flanks, J.Law is the literal face of the newest Big Thing in Young Hollywood and almost everyone can agree her performance merits the landslide victory here.
Our Bet: Win

Best Male Performance

While Josh Hutcherson might’ve won over (most of) “The Hunger Games” faithful with his touching performance as Peeta Mellark, his fellow competitors in this battle are fierce. The “Harry Potter” folks will no doubt be vetting the series’ long-lived lead Daniel Radcliffe for a final win, and both Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum have nudged into heartthrob status over the past few years. Hutcherson could totally nab the victory and probably will, but we predict it’ll be by a very close margin.
Our Bet: Win

Effie Reaping Bowl The Hunger Games

As for the other nominations:

Breakthough Performance
Next Movie says this one could go either way with Liam Hemsworth up for his role as Gale.

Best Cast
They’re predicting a win for The Hunger Games with The “Harry Potter” gang worthy competitors.

Best On-Screen Transformation
Next Movie says this will probably be a win for The Hunger Games, thanks to Elizabeth Banks doing an amazing job in the role of Effie.

Best Hero
They also predict a win for Katniss.  This one all comes down to a Twitter vote, so fans need to get on board and use the hashtag #votekatniss if they want to see her take out this award.

Best Fight
This one, they say, is too close to call.  The Hunger Games is nominated for the final showdown with Cato at the end of the Games.

Best Kiss
Next Movie says it’s not going to hap happen, predicting that it’s in the bag for Twilight.

  2. soske says:

i’m kinda split about this one. i do hope hunger games wins the best movie, best female performance, best cast and best onscreen transformation.

daniel deserves the best male performance for hp. best kiss for twilight.
i’m not sure about the best fight, the scenes are shaky and dark in hunger games.

  3. Erica Yeung says:

Obviously I’m rooting for THG to win every category, despite how much Harry Potter and the others deserve it. However, ‘Best Kiss’ I gosh darn hope so! Sorry, little fangirl in me coming out, I just wonder if Jen and Josh will replicate it! Probably not, for obvious reasons, but still one can hope! LOL

  4. Lu says:

Twilight can have Best Kiss next year which will be its last. Give it to Katniss and Peeta! Keep voting!

  5. THGirl says:

    ohh Peeta Mellark <3

  6. Kari says:
