Stanley Tucci | The Hunger Games and Catching Fire
The man behind The Hunger Games Ceasar Flickerman, Stanely Tucci was at a recent rum tasting at Lambs Club where a couple of journalist from The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog managed to check in with him about the movie, Catching Fire and what he’s up to now.
Stanley says he’s sad that Gary’s not coming back to do Catching Fire, but that he’s heard good things about new director, Francis Lawrence:
What kind of response have you gotten since “Hunger Games” came out? Do you have lots of new young fans?
Stanley Tucci: Without question…. It’s a newer demographic only because the kids who are seeing it now, a lot of them hadn’t seen “The Devil Wears Prada” because they were too young. It’s a similar age but different people. I never anticipate it would be like that. It was my fiancee who said, “you should do this.” I said, “Really?” She said, “Stanley, these books are so successful and they are really good.”
What do “Hunger Games” fans say to you?
My kids play soccer, and you see that the kids on the other team are sort of like, “What’s that guy doing here? Why is he here?” I think they think that you don’t do all the normal stuff. It’s really great. I’m very proud to be in the movie. It was a great experience. It was really one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Why?
I liked the story a lot. I liked what it has to say for socio-political reasons. I like the fact that the lead character is this incredible, strong young woman. I love Gary Ross.
What are your thoughts on the “Hunger Games” getting a new director, Francis Lawrence?
I’m sad that Gary is not doing it. But I hear this fella is really great. Hopefully Gary wil; come back and do another one. I [start shooting] the next Hunger Games in October some time.
