The Hunger Games Full Trailer – First Reaction

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Update:  To see the whole GMA segment, including an interview with Josh, check out this link and skip to the 50 minute mark (right after the 5th commercial break)

Update:  Here’s an HD version of the full trailer via YouTube.  We’ll replace it with the official one as soon as it is available.

For everyone who was able to tune into Good Morning America a few minutes ago, we all just got our first look at the full theatrical trailer for The Hunger Games Movie!  If you missed it, or want to watch it again (and who is not going to do that?), head on over to itunes to view it online shortly.  We’ll also get an imbedded version here as soon as possible.  Lionsgate should also have the trailer up on their official YouTube page tomorrow.

We’ve finally gotten a good look at the Reaping, parts of the Capitol, and so much more, and even heard lines like Peeta’s declaration of who he is spoken onscreen!  After just watching it once I can think of very few things that fans have not been hoping to see in the trailer that weren’t there.  What about you, where there any parts you wished they did or didn’t include?

Josh Hutcherson, also, was great, what little time he had to talk, and I think he is going to make a wonderful Peeta.  We also enjoyed seeing so many Hunger Games fans in Time’s Square!  We wished we could have been there – where any of you there?  If so, please share thoughts and photos!

Once we’ve finished going all fangirl/boy over the trailer and had a chance to rewatch it several dozen times, we’ll be back this evening with a detailed review of the trailer, frame by frame and we’ll let you know what we think of each scene.  Until then, what did you think!?

The Hunger Games makes USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Book List

Friday, July 1st, 2011

My Hunger Games - new books

The USA Today ranks the 150 top-selling titles each week based on an analysis of sales from US booksellers.  This week all three books in The Hunger Games trilogy made it into the top 10.

The movie version of The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, won’t be released until March. But thanks in part to growing online chatter about the film and its cast (which includes Lenny Kravitz and Woody Harrelson) all three titles in Suzanne Collins’ teen series, set in a dystopian future, are in USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list’s top 10. Games, released in 2008, is No. 4. Catching Fire(2009) is No. 8, and Mockingjay(2010) is No 10. Publisher Scholastic reports 9.6 million copies in print. A $30 gift edition of The Hunger Games will be released in November, with three movie tie-in versions out in February. Another factor driving sales: Games is showing up on high schools’ summer reading lists which have been expanded to give students more contemporary options.

A Hunger Games Comic?

My Hunger Games - Comic

Fancomic by Faith Erin Hicks

Comic Con 2011 gets underway next month and this year’s event is expected to be a big one with four-day passes selling out in three hours.  The big news coming out of Comic Con for Hunger Games fans though is that there are plans for a Hunger Games comic.

According to the HDRoom.com and UGO there will be news of a production with word that The Hunger Games looks set to become the next big cross-generation, cross-demographic hit.

According to UGO:

What to Expect at Comic-Con: Entertainment Weekly premiered the first photo of Lawrence as the lead character Katniss — and production on the movie hadn’t even begun. But cameras have started rolling , meaning Ross may have a little footage to show off to the rabid fanbase at this year’s SDCC. The question has always been about Lawrence pulling off a character near and dear to many fans hearts, so producers may aim to quell that fear at the convention. Besides, we’ll need something to combat the Twilight hoarde.

So what do you think?  Would you buy The Hunger Games comic?

The Girl Who Was on Fire

My Hunger Games - The Girl Who Was on Fire

While Suzanne Collins has come to the end of the line with The Hunger Games trilogy, fans can still read about their favorite characters from Panem in a new anthology of essays about The Hunger Games written by some of the best Young Adult authors around.

The Girl Who Was on Fire is a chance for readers to delve deeper into the world of The Hunger Games.  Each eassy looks at ideas and topics and how they might relate to our present-day reality.

Editor Leah Wilson says:

At its core, the Hunger Games is a coming-of-age story, and not just for Katniss — it’s a coming-of-age story for Panem, and in a way, for us, its readers, as well. The series pushes us to grow up and take responsibility both personally and politcally for our choices [...] That’s a heavy message to take away from any book series, but an important one for all of us — whether we ourselves would be shelved under Young Adult or not.

You can get a copy here:
The Girl Who Was on Fire: Your Favorite Authors on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Trilogy

Description

Praised by writers from Stephen King to Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins’ New York Times bestselling Hunger Games trilogy is dark, captivating, and deeply thought-provoking. Part straight-up survivalist adventure, part rich allegory, and part political thriller, the series has become a new YA favorite. A film version of the first book, The Hunger Games, is currently in development.

The Girl Who Was On Fire offers even more to think about for teen readers already engrossed by the Hunger Games. From the trilogy’s darker themes of violence and social control to reality television, fashion, and weaponry, the collection’s exploration of the Hunger Games by other YA writers reveals exactly how rich, and how perilous, protagonist Katniss’ world really is.

The Girl Who Was On Fire covers all three books in the Hunger Games trilogy.

Suzanne Collins an EW Entertainer of the Year

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

My Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins

Entertainment Weekly has named author Suzanne Collins as one of the magazine’s Entertainers of the Year. She’s come in at number 13 on their list!

Here’s what they had to say:

Despite criticism of the kid-on-kid violence in her bestselling Hunger Games trilogy, Collins, 48, believes the books pack a powerful antiwar message. ”My dad was career Air Force, a Vietnam vet, and a doctor of political science,” she explains. ”He felt very strongly about educating his children about war. And in turn, I feel drawn to creating stories for kids that might help them understand it.”

Also during the interview with EW Ms Collins spoke about Gary Ross taking the helm for The Hunger Games movie.  She said she’s spoken twice on the phone with Ross, and thinks he’s going to be “terrific”.

She goes onto say that Ross is full of genuine excitement and that when he talks about a scene, you can’t help visualizing it.

“I can’t wait to see his vision come to life on the screen,” she says.

Suzanne Collins helped write the screenplay adaptation for the movie and noted the challenge of condensing her book into a two-hour film. “You want to preserve the essence while making the film stand on its own,” she told EW.
