From Logan: This is a photo of a painting I did of Panem (from Mockingjay). This is where I think all the district’s are, I based this off of what I think a control panel in command would look like. The black lines represent railways, the circles with blue represent the rebelling districts, the red circle is the Capitol, and finally the circle with white is district 12.
From Crystal:
This is a drawing from one of my favorite parts in Mockingjay ….where Katniss sings “The Hanging Tree” song

If you want to send in your wonderful fan art send it to admin@myhungergames.com!! We can’t wait to see your art work!

Our Fan Question of the Week comes from….Hannah
SPOILER ALERT – this question is all about the ending of the final book in The Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay. If you haven’t finished reading all three books, the perhaps you might want to come back later.
If you could change the ending of Mockingjay, what would you have happen differently? What would be the cause and effect of your decisions?
***Summer***- I would personally change how quickly the book ended. I don’t like how katniss’ mom just left. She said she couldn’t return but as a mother of 2 I would never leave one child alone if something happened to the other. Not until I thought she could deal with it. And that she wanted to live her own life. Also I wouldnt think Gale would just leave Katniss either. Nothing ever became of him. These are some of the things I would change. I hope you enjoyed my answer!
***Jacqui*** I summed up what I felt about the ending of Mockingjay in this review I wrote back at the time of its release, so let me share that again as it still holds today. I would have liked to have seen Katniss own her place as the Mockingjay. I had expected her character to be more developed in the final book. I thought her internal struggle would be reflected in what was happening in Panem – that as the districts took back their power, so too would Katniss emerge as the master of her own destiny. Unfortunately it never really happens. It felt, to me, that her inner journey was never fully resolved. The ending was a little unsettling, which is definitely part of its strength and its beauty, but a part of me was left wishing for a just a little bit more.
***Hamilton*** I feel that the ending could have used more closure as well. Not only internally like Jacqui mentions, but with what was going on in the rest of Panem outside of the rebuilt District 12. We get very little in the way of glimpses into how the structure of the country had changed – hopefully for the better, but even for worse if that was the case. I would have liked to see more how the districts had come together and become a new nation of Panem. Do they still think of themselves as separate districts? Has it been harder for some to accept that the old power is gone? What kind of power do those in the Capitol have now? Those are all questions I would have liked to have seen explored a bit more. I don’t think I would have changed any plot elements, such as having certain characters not die. It was all rather hard to deal with, but ultimately the ending needed to be hard to deal with to get the point across.
***Audrey*** I feel like the ending was too rushed. There were many things that I wanted explained. I think I would have liked to see Katniss’ trial – and had that explained. The consequences and aftermath of the revolution and how daily life had changed. SOMETHING needed to happen with Gale. Personally, I’d rather have had him killed off than never heard from again. I just didn’t feel like enough things were resolved, but maybe that was the idea.
So there you have it..the opinions of the staff here at My Hunger Games..now it’s your turn…

Now that we’ve had a chance to check out the second trailer for the The Hunger Games movie, E! Online has gone through and the whole thing to give us five more reasons to get excited about the film.

1. The Mockingjay Pin!
They love that the mockingjay pin was used to show the love between the two sisters. What do you think? Are you still upset that there’s no Madge?

2. Oscar Nominee Stanley Tucci!
I have to say, this was pretty exciting for us too – to see Stanley actually acting in The Hunger Games trailer, all dressed up as Caesar Flickerman. as E! Online says: “we’re totally digging everything Stanley is bringing to the part.”

3. OMCapitol!
E! Online says the scenery is to “die for”. It looks a bit make believe to me, but can’t wait to see how it pans out in the movie.

4. Bad to the Bone!
We agree with the E! Online article – it was great to get a look at President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland.
“He’s like an adorable old grandpa who’s very, very, very evil…which is just (ahhh!) even more terrifying.”

5. Show Us Some Arena Action Already!
E! Online says we’re ready to see what happens in the arena. I’m OK with waiting until I sit in the theater in front of the big screen.

Our Fan of the Week is Kelsey Moore. We love her Katniss look as well as the fan art/wallpapers she’s put together. The first one is of one of her favorite dialogues in Mockingjay, while the second is a collectioin of quotes with Peeta, Katniss and their trainers. What is it about The Hunger Games you love so much?
Despite the fact that the country of Panem and its citizens are part of dystopia in the distant future, the way Suzanne Collins portrays her character, they become entirely relatable. The first time I read the Trilogy, I was done before two days had past, I just couldn’t put it down! I, like so many other people I’ve heard from became obsessed! But Katniss was such a relatable character for me, I too was thrust into a role where I had to become an adult and take charge before I was even a teen, and I feel extremely protective of those I love. Plus I love archery!
Who is your favorite character in The Hunger Games?
Besides Katniss, I love Peeta. His undying love for Katniss is inspiring and breathtaking. He’s willing to go to any ends to protect her, regardless of whether or not she feels the same. And his fight in Mockingjay, to get back to his normal kind self, and to get back to Katniss, is admirable and heartbreaking at the same time. It would have been so easy for his character to give into the new memories that dominated his mind. But instead he fought because his love for Katniss was so true and ran so deep, that even the Capitol’s poison could not separate him from her.
What are your expectations for The Hunger Games movie?
You know I’ve been hearing a lot of talk lately about the concern people have the movies never stay true to the books, and they fear this will be the case with The Hunger Games. I however am not concerned at all. The fact that Suzanne Collins was brought in to review and approve the script reassures me that, even if there are changes, the movie will stay true to the heart of the story. I am so unbelievably excited for the movie!
What’s your favorite quote?
This is an extremely hard question. I have so many…
My favorite is probably Cinna, when he is holding Katniss’s hand before she launches into the stadium and says, “Remember Girl on Fire, I’m still betting on you.” Even in this extremely intense, frightening moment, Cinna provides Katniss with this huge gift, hope. Because suddenly, she’s betting on herself too.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I love this website, I check “My Hunger Games” every day, at least once. Thank you so much for your work and putting all Hunger Games related information in one easy place! I’ve also attached another fan art that I’ve done with Peeta and Katniss and a quote from Mockingjay, another one of my favorite discussions where you can see Katniss’s true feelings for Peeta seeping out

For the third week in a row, all three books in The Hunger Games trilogy hold tight the top three spots in USA Today’s best seller list.
The Hunger Games only made it to number one on the list for the first time at the end of December(maybe because of the amazing trailer?)
The boxed set of The Hunger Games trilogy is also high on the list, coming in at #24.
Congrats Suzanne Collins!!

Total Film has released its Complete Guide to The Hunger Games online. Some of the information includes:
Camera shy
Somewhat fittingly considering the content of Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins is very rarely ever seen in public. Unlike JK Rowling and Stephenie Meyer, she’s not welcomed fame, and often refuses to be filmed. She’s not even on Twitter…
The Spark
Though the plot for Hunger Games is remarkably similar to that of Japanese novel Battle Royale (by Koushun Takami), Collins actually came up with the idea while watching TV late one night. Flicking between channels, she kept switching between footage of the Iraq war and a reality TV show. An idea was born.
Further inspirations
Collins reveals that she was also inspired by the Greek myths, and in particular the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. “I was also heavily influenced by the historical figure Spartacus,” she says. “Katniss follows the same arc from slave to gladiator to rebel to face of a war.”
War
“This is not a fairy tale,” Collins says of The Hunger Games. “It’s a war, and in war, there are tragic losses that must be mourned.” Which means just about anybody could bite it in Games. Expect the unexpected, then.
