RUMOR: Catching Fire Casting Down to Final Three?
The rumors surrounding casting for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continue. This time E! Online says the casting for Finnick Odair is down to a final three.
According to one of their sources, the top three names under consideration are Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund.
And not only that, their source also reportedly says that the final decision from Lionsgate should be announced as early as this week.
Filming is due to get underway later this year with new director Francis Lawrence taking over the reigns from Gary Ross.
As E! reports, all three actors have star stutus:
Hammer will next be seen playing the title role in the Lone Ranger flick opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Tron Legacy‘s Hedlund was also a big Cannes Film Festival headline with the premiere of On The Road with Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst while Kitsch can currently be seen in Battleship.
Reps for the three did not comment.
A Lionsgate rep said, “As with the first film, we won’t be confirming, denying or commenting on any casting rumors for this title. We will announce news wide when there is official casting news to announce.”

Why do so many people want Alex Pettyfer as Finnick? Not to be rude or anything but he looks NOTHING like how i imagined Finnick. I’ve seen comments saying he can’t act, but i don’t know. I’ve never seen any movies with him and i probabley never will unless he is casted as Finnick.

Ummmmmmmmmm…………….Did not expect them…Well this is a bit awkward. Plus i imagined Finnick way different, not to be mean or anything. But you know what i’m not the director or anything.Francis Lawrence picked one of them for a reason because they are good, so i can’t say anything wrong about his decision on these three actors.

I don´t know how reliable E! is. As a fan I want the best actor to be chosen because Finnick is a very complex character and someone who is just a pretty boy won´t cut it. To all the fans that seem disappointed by this news, please don´t be, we should be so lucky if Armie Hammer were to play this character. Garrett Hedlund is a decent actor as well, Taylor Kitsch isn´t interested as Josh Horowitz from mtv said in a recent interview, so I don´t know how true this rumor is. I´ll give this rumor the benefit of the doubt, but until official word comes out or a more reliable website such as deadline or the hollywood reporter comment on this, I´m not going to give it too much thought.

GARRETT HEDLUND FOR FINNICK ODAIR ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want him as Finnick. He truly is a good-looking man who I can really see offering sugar cubes and wield a trident. He looks way more like Finnick than those other two. I mean, I’ve never seen any of them acting, but I just think Garrett Hedlund looks pretty much like how I imagined Finnick.

Jennifer and Josh didn’t fit the description for their characters, and they turned out as a GREAT Katniss and Peeta. In my opinion, I think these would make great Finnicks. But if i had to choose i’d go for Garrett.

Ok, so we have two Friday Nights Lights boys (one from the tv show, the other the movie) with little other acting experience, and a red. Based on acting talent alone, I’d lean towards Armie Hammer, but I can’t stand picturing his face as Finnicks, so oh dear God, please, no. Taylor Kitsch is the worst of the bunch I think – look at the last few things he’s done and try to tell me that they were anything less than a failure with a straight face. I mean, did anyone even see John Carter? (And if you did, did you actually like it?) And as for Garrett Hedlund… well, I guess if it has to be one of the three, I’d go with him. He looks the part more than the others, I guess.
I’d really rather they give the part to Jensen Ackles or Matt Bomer, but seeing as that will never happen, I wonder if we could compromise by casting Friday Night Lights Jeremy Sumpter instead… seems they want someone from that universe based on the above choices anyway.
I actually did see John Carter (it was a free screening– no way I would have paid money). Taylor Kitsch was not bad at all. It was the movie that was bad. Too long, too boring, didn’t make sense. As an actor, he is very talented but I feel like he just makes bad choices. On Friday Night Lights, he knocks it out of the park every episode, but he hasn’t picked a great role like Tim Riggins in a long time. I think he could be great as Finnick– he has every bit of the charm. But any of the three would do for me.

Those pictures chosen look bad. They should have chosen better pictures. When I first looked at those photos I was thinking none of those guys should be Finnick. After googling all three names they are actually not bad looking to play Finnick. I think I’d be happy with any one of those guys.
They should cast Matt Barr, the guy who played Johnse Hatfield in History Channel’s Hatfields & McCoys. He’d make a perfect Finnick. I thought that the moment I saw him on Monday night.

Overall, I’m pleased with the final three. Whether we like it or not, one of them will be chosen for Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, and we can’t do anything about it. They were picked for a reason, and we should be happy Francis Lawrence is stepping up on Gary Ross’ part to direct Catching Fire, who knows if Francis will do Mockingjay, or if someone else will step in! Alex Pettyfer, if you ask me, was never meant to be anyone in The Hunger Games—-sorry if I’ve insulted any of his obviously loyal fans. But I do not hate Alex, I loved him in I Am Number Four and Beastly, even picked up the books.
Possibly Friday, we’re going to see who’s taken the role of Finnick, if not sooner. I’m very excited and would be pleased if any of them lands the part, although I agree with Pedro that those aren’t their best photos! My fingers are crossed for Armie, if not him then Garrett, and then Taylor. May the odds be ever in your favor, boys!

These three choices are fantastic, if it’s true. I would be good with Armie, great for either Taylor or Garrett. I would LOVE Taylor Kitsch though, just because he’s such an amazing and charismatic actor (Friday Night Lights) but he’s recently been cursed with two huge flops (John Carter and Battleship). I also saw Josh recently tweet that he was a fan. So yeah, Taylor!

i feel the need to mention that while Garrett may not fit your image of how Finnick should look, he is a really good actor. watch four brothers, that’s a great film of his and his acting in it is perfect. he also changed his appearance for Eragon and Death Sentence and he looks really different in both those roles. I have a lot of faith that he could pull it off as an actor and think he’d be do a great job in the role. besides, Josh Hutcherson doesn’t look like Peeta, but they dyed his hair blonde for the film and I really liked him in the role. So, give Garrett a chance to prove himself if he does get cast.
