He’d have to be one of our favorite Hunger Games fans. This week John Lyde is being featured on the official Hunger Games facebook page as Fan of the Week.
For those that don’t know, John is a director with video production company MainStay Productions. They put together a very impressive audition piece for The Hunger Games movie.
Back at the time he wrote that he was a big fan of The Hunger Games books and excited for the film from Lionsgate. He felt that several actors he knew were talented enough to be involved with the feature film and did an audition for them. The short film he created was very moving. It depicted the scene in which Rue died. You can check it out here
But for now here’s what John had to say for his spot as Fan of the Week:
What was it about The Hunger Games that inspired your creation?
I thoroughly enjoyed the books and thought they would make such interesting films. The dynamics of the characters and the situation they are placed in is great cinema. When I found out that Lionsgate was making the feature I wanted a few of my friends to have a chance to be seen for the parts. I made the Katniss and Rue short as an audition piece for them.
Are there any fan created Hunger Games projects you’ve seen that you particularly admire?
The trailer cut together by YouTube user cgifford103 is really impressive. Good timing, good story telling and overall very effective.
Who in your opinion is the greatest character in The Hunger Games?
Of course Katniss. Although all along I was rooting for Gale. I can’t believe he loses out in the end. No fair.
Do you have any other Hunger Games projects you’re working on for the future?
I wanted to try an actor out for young Haymitch so we are in the middle of a short called THE SECOND QUARTER QUELL. It should be finished the beginning of July. Most of all I am looking forward to what Gary Ross does with the material.
What took more time, reading the entire Hunger Games trilogy or creating your project?
I read all three books in a little over a week. My first short took weeks of planning and only a day to film and the post production went fairly quick. This new short, THE SECOND QUARTER QUELL has taken four days of filming and lots of planning. I hope the fans enjoy it.
