Rue Tracker Jackers The Hunger Games

According to, The Hunger Games has become an inspiration for people when choosing a name for their child.

It seems Rue is the number one pick for girls this year.  Even though Rue only appears in the first book, her character has clearly made an impression on readers.  As for the boy’s name, the surprising choice is Cato, the charactere played by Alexander Ludwig in The Hunger Games movie.

Rue – Credit The Hunger Games, which has turned the spotlight on a range of exotic botanical names for girls, from the heroine’s name Katniss to gentle Primrose to Posy and Clove. But the hottest choice for babies, according to the Nameberry statistics, is sleek, simple, if somewhat mournful Rue, the name of the agile young girl who meets a tragic end in the series. In real life, however, we see Rue as having a bright future.

Cato – Cato might be a villain in The Hunger Games, but the popular series turned attention on a name that fits into a couple of other hot trends. It’s an ancient Roman name that, like brothers Atticus and Cassius, is being resurrected by modern parents. It’s got the stylish O ending. And it kind of sounds like Kate, a name in the spotlight thanks to the new future Queen of England.

Other popular baby names are also influenced by pop culture, include those based on the Twilight series, singer Adele, and the book-turned-TV series Game of Thrones.
So what do you think? Would you name a child after a character in The Hunger Games and if so, which one?

  1. TEAM PEETA says:

I would definitely name my child after The Hunger Games, like Primrose, Clove, or Gale(even though I hate him)

  2. Sevilen Robberts says:

Gale could work for a girl too. Short for Abigail or something. I saw it in a book. If you just don’t have the guts to go for a full out Katniss or Effie.

  3. Nikki says:

    I know a girl named Gale!! :)

  4. Annie Cresta says:

I’m actually gonna name all my kids after the Hunger Games!!!

I’ve had my mind set on it for 3 years now and i’m not gonna change it.

    • LC says:

How can u know that you’re gonna have 6 kids? or enough boys for Finnick, Peeta, and Cinna? and enough girls for Annie, Katniss, and Prim?? What i’d do is choose four of my favorite names out of all the books, 2 boy and 2 girl, and hope for the best.

    • teamthresh says:

      wow, cool

  5. Effie says:

I would totally name my kids after the Hunger Games! That book made a big impression on me and those men in the books helped me to realize what a real man is. I just hope I can find a guy like them. I would name my kids Primrose, Clove, Annie, Fin (short for Finnick), Rue, Gale, and Effie. Not kidding.

  6. sisalicious21 says:

They are cool names, but I wouldn’t want my child to find out that they were named after someone who died a tradgic and painful death. But it’s your choice what to name your child.

  7. KEE says:

Oh yeah !!!! * NOBODY COPY * From like 9 I have loved the name Sherri and I always will . If I ever have a little girl her full name will be Sherri Katniss Rose . Cute .

    • KEE says:

Or Sherri Katniss Clove , you know cause of the whole Katniss hates roses thing .

  8. clove says:

I don’t know if I’ll have kids or not, but if I did I’d name…
    HER: Rue or Johanna
    HIM: Gale

  9. Love of Peeta says:

Before my mom read the Hunger Games I told her I was going to name my first born son Peeta and she told me she would get me put away now when I tell her that she says maybe he’ll turn out like Peeta. I could only hope for a husband or son as awesome as Peeta.

  10. for a boy i would pick Cato or Peeta
for a girl i would Katniss or Clove

i know both girl and boy are from district 2 or 12

  11. for a boy i would pick Cato or Peeta
for a girl i would Katniss or Clove

i know both girls and boys are from district 2 or 12

  12. Sammy says:

I think about the only name I might use is Annie (which is a normal name) or Finn (but not Finnick.) I’m all for not making my kids not get teased in school.

    • KEE says:

same. your kid would * no offence* get seriously teased in school if his name was Gale and he was a boy . I mean you may like it , but think of the kid

  13. Carolyn says:

I like the idea of doing Hunger Games names for my kids, mainly due to the fact that the book touched me so much and is so inspiring and moving. I like more out-of-the-box names, but nothing so over the top that my kid would be made fun of:

    1. Annie Clove
    2. Johanna Maggie (AKA Mags)
    3. Maysilee Rue

    1. Finn Darius
    2. Rory Peeta
    3. Cato Finnick

  14. Claire says:

My big sister is called Johanna so I guess my mum was really planning ahead

  15. Hannah says:

i seriously would name my kid after hunger games…maybe just a middle name. I think one of my first choices, just for the name, would be Primrose, but i never LOVED her character, i never cried when she died! for a boy:
    1. Peeta
    2. Finnick (probably middle)
    3. Cinna (MIDDLE)

    1. Rue <3
    2. Primrose
    3. Katniss

idk if I'm (whats the word) crazy, or obsessed enough to name my kid after a Hunger games character, but Rue, a small yellow flower, and Primrose, a version of the classic rose, and Katniss, maybe too straight forward, but it's a root! And for the boys, Peeta, very close to Peter, yet has a mysterious, adorable, sweet twist. Finnick, the gorgeous young victor, strong and has a sweet spot (marrying Annie). And Cinna, just, read the books. You know why. the hunger games…..BEST BOOKS EVER!!!

  16. Perham says:

i would name my kid would be a boy

  17. Team Peeta!! says:

I am defiantly on team peeta but I still like gale I just prefer peeta and I would defiantly name my kids after the hunger games the two names I love the most are Cinna and Primrose oh and the book the hunger games best series EVER!!!!
