Peeta and Gale roles confirmed – The Hunger Games Movie
It’s official. The roles of Peeta and Gale have been confirmed. Here’s the official release:
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 4, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that actor Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT) has been cast in the role of Peeta Mellark, with Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG) joining the film in the role of Gale Hawthorne in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel. Both actors will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who it was recently announced will play heroine Katniss Everdeen.
Peeta accompanies heroine Katniss Everdeen into the 74th annual Hunger Games as the male tribute chosen from their native District 12, the most remote and marginalized district of all the subjugated districts of Panem. At the outset of the Games, Peeta publicly confesses his longtime feelings for Katniss, setting up one of the most fascinating fictional rapports of all time with his supposed arena rival.
Though Katniss and Gale have never had a romantic relationship, they share a transcendent bond, often of few words. When Katniss volunteers to participate in the 74th Annual Hunger Games in her younger sister’s stead, they both presume that bond will carry her far through the horrors she will face in the arena, and they each silently hope they’ll be reunited in safety on the other side of the ordeal.
I think it’s great news. I’m sure the three actors picked so far will do a fantastic job. I can’t wait to hear who else will be in the movie – especially Prim, Rue, Effie, Cinna and Haymitch. Let us know what you think.

WHAT. THE. HELL. Is this a joke? I am very unpleased with the casting for these two roles… I really wish the Director stuck with his original plan in casting unknowns. Personally I think Josh is a great and entertaining actor. I haven’t seen Liam in anything but he definately holds a strong presence which I think is important for gale. Josh can be sweet and sour so that is great for Peeta.
What is the most important is their chem with Jennifer. Obviously it was great for them to get hired.
I for one am really excited for this.
ANd don’t say their hair color is all wrong because I think we all know how easily looks can change in Hollywood.

I’m also with Erica, I was expecting a better peeta than josh hutcherson, someone with actual peeta qualities. I wanted undiscovered actors for most of the parts, not well known actors but what the heck. I am so mad, and if the actors screw up the movie, i am sure a lot of angry fans will march up to lionsgate productions and make them wish they had never casted those good for nothing actors, they didnt even stick to the physical features of peeta and gale. epic failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh……..well, definitely not who I pictured as Peeta and Gale. I’ve only seen Josh in children’s movies, and he’s a good actor, but I can only see him as a kid, and definitely not Peeta. I’m sure he’ll definitely do a good job portraying Peeta’s personality, not sure about his looks though. I mean, maybe I can see Peeta if I squint…
I’ve never seen any of Liam’s movies, but I can see him as Gale if his hair is brown.

The casting directors must be idiots! Do they not know that these KIDS are supposed to be living in a suppressed society without much food? These three are healthy and will look like decent competitors in any games. Gale should be thin not bulky. Peeta should be at least taller than Katniss. Jen and Josh are the same height. I think I’ll stick to reading the books, Lionsgate.

I can’t wait to be sitting on the edge of my seat – I expect to be brought to tears – and I would imagine (despsite knowing how it ends) that it will be an amazing ride. I bet we fall in love with Katniss, Peeta and Gale all over again

Let’s have common sense.
It’s one of my favorite books. It is surely a film that – like it or not of the cast – I’ll see. I agree that we should support the movie. We know that the book will always be better than the movie. We have evidence that each one has their opinion and we should respect it. We know that we must have open mind for the actors and that we can not compel the director to change them.
But come on, man. I’ve tried to consider Jennifer Lawrence – which continues to be difficult – and now I still have to put up with this bomb? When I looked at the list, I was surprised to see that they just MIGHT be chosen.
Probably you, like me, imagined a Peeta blonde with blue eyes. Suddenly, I find myself looking for a boy with black hair and brown eyes that I still see as a child.
I imagined a Gale with black hair and green eyes, and the guy who was chosen to him is blond and has blue eyes, looking like a surfer or something.
Who imagined Peeta with black hair? Who imagined a Gale in this way? Nobody that I know of.
First, I rooted for Alex Pettyfer be Peeta, then began to talk to Hunter Parrish was the least worst, now they are choosing this Josh? I came to conclusion that they want to kill us. And NO, he will not be ANYTHING good with a blonde hair. Is able to make it worse. Believe in me.
Gary Ross lost all points with me. Expect a Tom Cruise as Haymitch.
But let’s continue with faith. Hope is the last to die, isn’t it?

While, Liam I just saw his movie with miley cyrus in The Last Song, nice romance story though. But I just can’t imagine him as Gale. If not Gaspard, I thought it Drew Roy.

Lucas, I think the missing ‘body and eyes’ language you mentioned before is the ‘lost soul and skepticism’ of Katniss Everdeen. She hard to trust anyone even down to the innocent Peeta in the beginning, right?
Both Jennifer and Kaya do have fighting spirit, but for that element, I guess Kaya surpasses Jen.
Jen kinda reminds me about Saoirse Ronan in The Lovely Bones.

Oh yeah, Pedro and I wouldn’t just simply tossed in the word ‘gay’ out of nothing. We keep it real of course. And the reason is very simple, by judging his official cast for the protagonists, Josh with Jen enough to prove his disconnection with the romance chemistry senses in between different sexes. About the question of ‘trust’, in fact we have trusted him too much but ended up he blew us off countless times with his manifestation of his mind works out obviously against the perspective points of many readers. A good movie director should step out of his comfort zone and opens up either good or bad comments from others. This is what we call ‘Two way traffics’. Look we don’t expect an adaptation in full-length accordingly to the book but at least he should set the casting right. At such, all of us know that the movie adaptation of Harry Potter will never measure up to JK Rowling master piece std, but at least WB got their three main lead casts at right place especially Danielle Racliffe whom just an average boy before the movie, but now look how famous he is.
I wonder if the director casts the unlikely Jennifer Lawrence because he counts her as Oscar’s winner. But it may not always true, remember the Slumdog millionaire lead cast who won Oscar, what happens to him now in Airbender, N.Shymalan movie..?

thank you casey, if i knew you in real life we would probably be friends, cuz we agree on alot of things, and were actually true fans of the book no matter what gay-ry ross does.
When I first found out about this I was shocked. They were probably the last people I had in mind for the roles of Peeta and Gale but if the directer and Suzanne Collins agree that they are as close to perfect as possible then they must be pretty good. And with books that have been made into movies the actors/actresses they pick never fulfill the character we had in our minds because we all picture them differently. Can’t wait until this comes out!!!
I won’t judge until I’ve seen the film, and they can change hair colour, can somebody please promise me that you can die brown hair blonde without bleaching? :L
Don’t worry, guys. This is Suzanne Collins we’re talking about. She’ll make everything turn out good no matter what. Plus, I see a lot they could do with these actors. I’m actually really pleased.
NO no no. Peeta can’t be that guy
He doesn’t look AT ALL how I pictured him when I read The Hunger Games trilogy. I am really dissapointed. They look too old and Peeta and Gale are both not even 20 yet. Wow. 
I saw someones rendering of Josh with blond hair and blue eyes and he looks exactly like what I imagin peeta to look like

The one who casted these actors is the one who casted twilight and harry potter series. She must have seen something in these guys the skills to do the job.

Give them a chance! If their acting is amazing, then small apearance changes shouldn’t be a big deal, yes they look a little old or don’t have the right eye color or are too short or whatever, but suck it up! give them a chance to prove they can act!!!
I personally think it’ll be great because these are all pretty damn good actors. I may be wrong but I’m just going to wait untill i see the movie to make a final judgement….

OMG i think this is the worst casting l-i-t-e-r-a-l-l-y peeta should be really cute goodish looking but not like that gales not too bad but still! its absouloutley rubbish casting really annoyed after the books were sooooooo goood! :\
The oops will have more detail and be more interesting, while the movie is just like it but harder to find actors and may have as much details as the book, in all of any reasons, I think that is was really good
