The Peeta and Gale frontrunners – The Hunger Games Movie

Apparently the wait is almost over. The people at The Hob have heard that we should know which actor will land the role of Peeta for The Hunger Games movie, on Tuesday.
Lionsgate has kept it pretty quiet, although rumors, seemingly leaked from the sudio, have indicated that five actors were in the running to play Peeta while at least four had been screentested for Gale.
Of those it seems that Josh Hutcherson is the frontrunner to land the role of Peeta, while Liam Hemsworth is likely to be picked to play Gale.
Both actors have been named in the rumored shortlist of contenders for the roles…along with Lucas Till, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Ludwig and Evan Peters for Peeta and David Henrie, Robbie Amell and Drew Roy for Gale.

Josh Hutcherson: (born October 12, 1992) is an American film and television actor. He began working in the early 2000s, appearing in several minor film and television roles. He gained wider exposure with major roles in the 2005 films Little Manhattan and Zathura, the 2006 comedy RV, the 2007 family adventure film Firehouse Dog, and the film adaptations of Bridge to Terabithia, Journey to the Center of the Earth and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant. On March 30, 2008, Hutcherson won a Young Artist Award (for Leading Young Actor). Hutcherson was also featured on a Celebrity Teens edition of the hit show MTV Cribs, and is set to play Robert in the Red Dawn remake.
Liam Hemsworth: (born 13 January 1990) is an Australian actor best known for his roles as Josh Taylor in the soap opera Neighbours and as “Marcus” on the children’s television series The Elephant Princess. He appeared in the American film The Last Song, released on March 31, 2010. Hemsworth’s elder brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, are also actors.

No way would Jenn and John Hutcherson make a good connection.. I’d be sad if this is the final choice instead of Hunter Parrish or William Moseley.
I don’t doubt his acting ability but is he considered sexy by anyone at all? If this is the guy Katniss will be settling for, I hope there is no kissing in the movie LOL

Ugh :/ Is this really happening? Honestly, Liam as Gale? Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar worthy actress. Liam and Josh on the other hand, not so much. I just don’t understand how they are even considering them for the roles. I can see Katniss’s qualities in Jenn but no where near do I find any Peeta qualities in Josh. I am very disappointed with the frontrunners quite frankly… What happened to casting unknowns?

Well, I’d rather have Hunter Parrish, but I trust their judgement. I’m just hoping that whoever they choose has great chemistry with Jennifer.
Well, complaining and whining about how we hate their decisions isn’t going to change their minds. If you are true fans of The Hunger Games Triology, then you would respect the choices made by the director, Gary Ross, and the legend herself, Suzanne Collins. If she thinks they fit the role than enough said. Everyone has different opinions. So, no matter who they pick there will be upset fans. So once again, if you really are a Hunger Games fan, then you will understand and support the movie choices no matter what.
I think Josh would play a great Peeta, but I can’t see a good connection between him and Jennifer. I hope Hunter Parrish will get the role. I especially don’t want Evan Peters and even though I love Alex Pettyfer, I think if they chose him it’d become a Twilight type movie.
As for Gale, I believe all of these actors are bad. I know most people like Drew Roy, but I saw him in Hannah Montana and I can’t take him seriously.
i dont mind liam as gale but josh as peeta? um i wanted alex, but hunter would be my next choice…good luck to him
My picks would have been Sterling Knight for Peeta and Taylor Kitsch for Gale, but what can ya do? I agree that Josh doesn’t seem like a good match for Jennifer, but if he is a good enough actor it shouldn’t be a problem… And I could warm up to Liam I suppose. Hopefully they know what they’re doing!

Im am a true fan and I don’t want Josh as Peeta. I’d rather Alex Pettyfer to play Peeta. Thats my opinion. That doesnt mean I’m not a true fan.
& Even if for some unexplainable reason that the Hunger Games Movie turns out to be the worst rated movie ever ( which will never happen, cause a triology this great can never die like that ) , I’m still gonna go see it in the cinemas, and buy the DVD and watch it thousands of times, cause I AM A TRUE FAN.

Jennifer Lawrence is not my pick fot Katniss, but really what the hell can I do to change it? So I was just really hoping that they would pick a better Peeta and Gale. And it turns out this. Josh Hutcherson? Seriously? He’s younger than Jen. And Liam as Gale? Not the way I imagine. Jen was already bad for Katniss (in my opinion) and then even Gale and Peeta. Just wth, probably the best movie adaptation woulf be the HP films. No offence but everything thats happening is not how I want it to be.

Elly, I caught your drift. And I agree. Even though I had pictured someone else for the part, I’m going to put my support behind the movie because I love the books.
What they’re trying to do? Kill us? The least worst of that list for me was Hunter Parrish – the first option is Alex Pettyfer – and they choose this guy? No chemistry with Jennifer. What about Gale? Just put me down too much to know that Liam just COULD be chosen, and now he’s almost there actually almost ended up with my day.
Of course, logical that I will watch the movie in theaters several times. But, man, the cast is all wrong in my opinion. First Jennifer Lawrence – Kaya Scodelario for Katniss -, now maybe Josh and Liam. Who will be Haymicth? Tom Cruise?
I spent two days off and I get bad news.
Sure, let’s hope that the movie will be great. Honor at least half of the book. Maybe Gary Ross will shut my mouth with a really great movie. Hopefully he can.

So, I agree with you! It would be sooo good if they made a cast of unknowns, but a cast in which fans feel comfortable with the actors. If I were the director I would seek out the opinion of fans and then discuss with Suzanne. But what we can do?

If anyone says the only reason Kaya wasn’t picked because of her bad acting, I wont buy the idea especially after seeing her in Skins. She is a friggin’ good actress, so frankly I think she deserved another chance running up for Katniss role.
Likewise I have to admit Jennifer Lawrence has what it takes for the Oscar awards on her role in Winter Bones(she reminds me about Saoirse Ronan in The Lovely Bones anyway)
So generally, both of them have the basic requirement of Katniss – the fighting spirit.
Nevertheless, Jennifer may probably pull off for Katniss role with her acting skill but I still can’t ignore that there is something missing. ‘The body and eyes language that will pass to others…,” (thanks to Lucas, he reminds me about this point which I totally agree). I guess it ‘Lost soul and skepticism element’ is what he meant and my intuition somehow tells me Kaya surpasses Jennifer on this one. Back there as plotted in the book it takes a while for Katniss to fully trust on people even down to the pure innocent Peeta, not only that, she even tried to deceive and made use of Peeta in the beginning…, Kaya naturally looks one those kind.

Really not my first choice………..I really do think they’re making a mistake casting Josh as Peeta. For his hair, I am positive they will dye it. As for Liam, I think he’s too famous with being in the Last song. I don’t think a lot of the fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ will be able to take him seriously, he’ll be going from pretty boy, to rugged. He’s too famous.
Fact is, they can change their looks, so it’s more the personality wise, and the ability to act that actually matters. Let’s just hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.
Also, they said Josh Hutcherson is FRONTRUNNER for Peeta, doesn’t mean they’re positive he’ll be playing it.
