Trevor Donovan Really Wants to be Finnick Odair
There has been a great deal of discussion on who should be our Finnick Odair in ‘Catching Fire‘. Many stars have spoken out about their interest, like Zac Efron, Grant Gustin, Jesse Williams and Chace Crawford. But not much attention has been given to Trevor Donovan. The ’90210′ actor tells The Advocate, he is incredibly interested in the role. Read what he had to say in the interview and tell us, what do you think?
Perez Hilton has started an unofficial campaign to get you cast as Finnick in the next Hunger Games movie. Thoughts?
I’m humbled and honored, but most of all excited, because Mario [Lavandeira, a.k.a. Perez] is a good guy. All actors have a dream role; playing Finnick Odair is mine. I know the odds are stacked against me. I’ll be going up against big stars like Zac Efron and Armie Hammer, but you know what, I want it more and am very passionate about it, it’s not just another job to me, it’s much more than that. I’m not saying that it is for them. I was a fan before anyone knew the Hunger Games series would be made into movies. I read all the books the day they first came out and knew right there and then I wanted to play Finnick. I’m definitely the underdog in this race, but I’m committed and going to give it all I’ve got. As Effie Trinket says, “May the odds be ever in your favor.”

I’d rather have him than some of the other guys.. And he is good looking
He is deffinitly the best one for the part when you look at all the others. This is exactly how i pictured finnick.
Works for me. He will have to ‘bronze’ his hair and wear green contacts but looks physically capable of carrying bodies fireman style, i.e., Mags, Peeta, Beetee.

Gotta agree. At 6’2″ he would make an excellent foil for JLAW as Katniss. Gale(Liam) is of similar height.
I got to say, this guy is the closest thing to a Finnick that I’ve seen. Not exacly my Finnick (the way I imagined Finnick was actually absurd, so I won’t even comment on that), but this one seems to have a decent body structure, and I can definetely seem him carrying arround people in his back

I can’t see him as Finnick…
He doesn’t seem right for the part.
I used to not like the idea of him playing Finnick, but now with all the other choices being thrown around I would pick him over some of the other guys. Personally, my Finnick will always be Jeremy Sumpter, that’s just how I imagine Finnick. No one person will ever be enough to play Finnick but I think he should be given a chance. You never know he might be great at it.

He wouldn’t be my first choice, but I wouldn’t object him being casted. Here’s how I would grade him compared to how Finnick is described:
Body(Height, muscle build)- great, maybe excellant
Face- good enough
How I pictured Finnick- so-so
His ability to play Finnick- ?
Overall- good pick, but if he can act or not is a major game changer
He was a full-time cast member on 90210 for a while. His acting is wonderful. He can totally pull it off.
I agree with a lot of you. He would NOT make a good Finnick. He may have a good body, and it works for being Finnick, but I had never amagined Finnick to look like that and he is REALLY REALLY REALLY Ugly.

I think it’s a little mean to say that this man is ugly. Remember looks are totally subjective. What you think is good looking someone else might find unappealling as vice-versa.
If you think the man’s not a good actor and want to veto him for that reason that’s fine but saying that you reject them because the person in question is not what you feel attractive is mean.
well said Kelly. I think he’s gorgeous and he’s a fan which is a huge plus. He’s the most sincere authentic actor i’ve seen for Finnick to date. I’m a Trevor for Finnick supporter all the way. I’m a sucker for the underdog

Hmmm. IMO, Zac Efron doesn’t have the physicality required. He would not be able to carry Mags, let alone Peeta or Beetee, with ease while hiking up hill in a jungle. Also, for me, he just doesn’t have the depth to be a cold-blooded killer one moment, then crying for his lost love Annie and convincingly off his rocker for 1/2 the movie. Not enough life experience to pull it off. He’s never hit rock bottom so he could not be convincing.
THG is all about words painting pictures for us. Not once did she use any derogatory words in the trilogy. You can do better at articulating your thoughts. Very disappointed.
Plus, he would ALSO be shorter than Jennifer Lawrence.
True Zac is too short and too girly and too High School Musical. Lionsgate should NOT hire a well known famous actor, especially one more Famous than Josh or Jennifer.

this is quite the Finnick I had in mind… but i’m still concerned about how he’s going to play the role. he’s not bad at all, to be honest….
Oh my god! So I just saw an article on The Mary Sue about the toss up for Finnick between Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund. And I was all “ugh. if I HAVE to chose, make it be Armie” And then I thought, well who would I want, so I was just searching out men and came across Trevor Donovan and was immediately stuck by “Yep! That’s Finnick!” This isn’t the greatest pic of him, but he’s definitely the one
Physically he looks absolutely perfect. He’s actually my pick for Finnick. A little skeptical on his acting, but who knows. Gosh I wish I had a body like that… T_T
