VIDEO: Pop Sugar on the Sam Claflin Catching Fire Casting Rumors
The rumor that Sam Claflin has scored the role of Finnick Odair in Catching Fire is hotting up. The story emerged from Zap2it, quoting one of their sources as saying it’s a done deal. The rumor then came up on Variety, reporting that the film franchise has allegedly offered the part to the British actor for The Hunger Games sequel.

I don’t get why all the news sites keep reporting about this. I thought he was out of the running since he’s also shooting a different movie in August with actor Karl Urban (Star Trek). That’d be in conflict with Catching Fire for sure. So, really, what’s the deal??

I’m more sold on Hunter Parrish. As I said before Claflin is mediocre when it comes to looks. Not the “OMG FINNICK” looks I have in mind.
But let’s face it, I’m 100% sure no casting director EVER would have been able to cast someone who satisfies everyone because each one of us has a different Finnick in mind. Even Alex Pettyfer, Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer, Grant Gustin etc who are the most popular choices, each one of them has those who don’t want him. So, if Claflin IS Finnick, I won’t go campaigning against him, I’ll only say “Good luck being Finnick and satisfying the fandom that ain’t never be fully satisfied!”

Not bad…Not bad at all….would prefer Hunter Parrish or Alex Pettyfer…and Grant Gustin is also do-able…Sam Clafflin is a VERY good actor, they will dye his hair, contacts if nessescary, so I think it would be a good choice….not my favorite, but Im open to whatever comes…hey, remember people thought Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson couldn’t pull it off? And now? I can see no one else as Katniss and Peeta

Lots of English actors can fake American accents, and vice versa. It’s part of the whole “acting” thing. Chillax.
2 more things: Have you heard of hair dye? And Finnick isn’t even blonde. His hair is “bronze”, which indicates more of a brown color with a bit of a reddish hue.

This fandom can’t be pleased, can we? But I know it is impossible for everyone to agree or be happy with the same person, so I’m just going to do the rational thing and let whoever is cast roll off my shoulders. Sam Claflin, I believe, to be a good actor—but I personally prefer Hunter Parrish. I don’t know, Hunter has just been screaming “Finnick!” to me recently. I think he’s (Hunter P.) molded into a fine Finnick. But Francis Lawrence is a professional, and I’m sure whoever he chooses, whether it be Sam Claflin or Hunter Parrish or whoever, we can trust his decision.
And Hollywood can do wonders with their effects and such, anyway. Whoever is cast only really needs a 6-pack, green contacts, and dyed hair either bronze or blonde to fit. And pretty youthful, but I don’t see Mr. Lawrence choosing someone in their 40s or 50s to play Finnick. At least I hope not. 0_0
I agree, surely if he’s been cast then he’s demonstrated to LG et al that he’s got something which these supposedly hotter actors don’t have? Even though it IS Finnick, the acting ability is more important than the appearance (otherwise they may as well just use CGI to make a “perfect” Finnick).
Exactly. Sure, it’s great to look the part in all, but acting the part is where the “acting” part of an actor’s job comes in. And even if Lionsgate made a CGI Finnick—or even a full cast!—fans still wouldn’t be pleased. You’d have a load of “that’s wrong” or “oh my God the eyes are SOOOO wrong oh no!!” taken directly out of the book or not. And the fans aren’t professionals. During auditions, the directors and such see more than the appearances.
I just hope Lionsgate makes their decision soon. Haven’t we heard enough rumors? The only new confirmed actors we have, I think, are the ones playing Plutarch and Wiress. I’m not sure if Jena Malone has been confirmed for Johanna or not, and the original cast is reprising their roles.
I’m a guy so the sexiness of Finnick isn’t really an issue to me but I actually think that Sam Claflin with dyed hair and some extra muscle would look more like Finnick than any of the others I’ve seen mentioned.
I’ve gotta say I never really got the mania for Hedlund or Parrish or Hammer etc. but maybe it’s because I’m not female.
Umm everyone commenting, you do realise Tom Felton dyed his hair blonde, sam can do the same, Liams brother had to get buffed up, he will do the same, Jennifer Lorance had to wear contacts! HE WILL DO THE BLOODY SAME!!!!!!
