Will The Hunger Games fill the Harry Potter Void?
The final instalment of Harry Potter is here. It ends 10 years of Harry Potter movies, and many are asking, what will take its place, with some suggesting The Hunger Games has the potential to be the next big thing. But can there ever be another Harry Potter?
The Hunger Games Examiner writes:
The Harry Potter books revolutionized publishing, children’s literature, filmmaking, and pop culture as a whole. The series inspired a generation of children to read. In many ways, the current success of Young Adult literature is thanks, in part, to Harry Potter. It’s true that the caliber of YA fiction has increased substantially over the last several years, with series like The Hunger Games prime examples of high-quality fiction written for teen readers. But it was Harry Potter that first got many of those teens and young adults to start reading.
And while audiences have watched the stars of the Harry Potter movies grow up over the years, many of the series’ most loyal fans have grown up with them. The readers who were children when the first Harry Potter book came out in 2007 (actually it was 1997 – I’m guessing that’s just a typo) (in the U.K.; U.S. readers got it a year later in 2008) are now adults. These books and films shaped their lives.
No other book series has done that — not Twilight or even The Hunger Games. These other books and franchises may have loyal followings, but nothing can compare to the devotion of Harry Potter fans or the way the series impacted entire lives and childhoods. Many fans even compare the end of the Harry Potter films to the end of their childhood.
So what do you think? I tend to agree, that while The Hunger Games has a huge and loyal following, there won’t be another Harry Potter for a long, long time.

I totally agree. I love the hunger games but Harry Potter will always hold a special place in my heart and my life. I will share harry potter with my children and eventually my grandchildren. While I may do that with other series it won’t be with the same reverence.
I have never been able to get into harry Potter. I suppose I could try again, but it never could hold my interest very long, not like The Hunger Games could. I’m even considering the names for my kids one day to be Katniss, Finnick, or Maysilee.
I heart The Hunger Games (That heart thing is like from the Clique. I also ah-dore the name Massie).
I think that yes, it is true that there was many Potter Fans out there, I am one myself, but just as the Harry Potter series was awesome The Hunger Games is also. Yes, it´s true that the twilight saga did not have that much of an inpact upon us, but that´s because once it got to the third movie, no one really did like it. Unlike The Hunger Games Books, the Twilight Books did not have a big inpact on me. The Harry Potter books did have some of it on me, but they were so long that I fell asleep before I could even finish a chapter. The Hunger Games kept me awake and reading. My mother sometimes even had to come in and tell me that I needed to go to bed, and even when I was asleep I kept thinking, even dreaming about what I just read.
I remember once I woke up around 4 in the morning crying. At that time I had just finished reading Mockingjay. I woke up at the part where Finnick had just died. I couldn´t stop crying. The only thing that could fix it was reading all three books again and finding all the good times that happen in all three books. I´m now reading Mockingjay again and even now that I know what´s going to happen I´m still in constant susspense. No other book has done that to me ever.
In my mind the images are so clear that I can´t ever stop thinking about them. Sometimes I even put things that come out of the book to music. The one I love is the one where Peeta told Katniss where he first feel in love with her. When I imagend that I was thinkin of the song ¨Your´s to hold¨ by Skillet. It fit perfectly to that part. Now every time I here a song that I like I can´t stop thinking of a way it would fit a part in any of the books.
I don´t think any other book could do what The Hunger Games Books did to me. Not even The Harry Poter books.
I do have to thank my friend Pedro for getting me interested in these books. My friends Carol, Marium, and Jenifer for helping me get through some parts of the books that were sad for me. And my best friend Kaisy who always kept me reading.
All six of us are Potter fans and us Girls are Twilight fans as well, but all six of us agree that The Hunger Games Books are the best thing that cold ever happen to us.
Harry Potter is an entity of its own. Nothing could ever compare to it. I continue to have discussions over Harry Potter to this day. I started reading them when I was 12. I am now 23. The Hunger Games is a wonderful, wonderful series and a refreshment to a lot of stuff that is written, but it can never compete with Harry Potter.
I loved the Harry Potter books ,but for some reason the Hunger Games was tied for first place with Harry Potter. I won’t be able to decide which is better until I see the Hunger Games Movie. I still have a feeling that I might not be But in the end I really LOVE both of the series.
i hate harry potter how old are you?
kippy
KIDS!!:(
Yes because leaving comments on a fansite for a YA book is soooo much more mature than reading harry potter, kippy( also a woderfully mature username)
I agree with most of you, although hunger games is a great series, there will never be anything as huge as harry potter
I’ve no doubt that Harry Potter fans and Twilight fans alike will flock to the hunger games when their old passion has ended, but I have to say that nothing is quite like Harry Potter. The Hunger Games were amazing, brilliant, fantastic. But Harry Potter sort of pushes beyond that. J.K. Rowling has so many hidden message that even I, the girl that’s been a fan since the first grade, and has been listening to the audio bok nightly for 3 years now (it talks me to sleep) is still discovering all the hidden plots and messages. So yes, I think The Hugner Games will be epic, but most of us will still never forget the books that taught us how to read, and the series we grew up with.
FYI< they should cast Gregg Sulkin as Finnick. he looks the part and I'm totally sure he could act it.
Yes… maybe. for me YES!!
The Hunger Games is the next Harry Potter. If I’m correct, didn’t harry Potter really become big after the first movie? Everyone’s like, “Hm, this seems like a good story. Maybe I’ll read the book.”
I like THG much better then HP.
I think that the hunger games could just be brilliant. Harry potter is a book movie series that happens to be very entertaining and loved but no real string meaning behind it. The hunger games found it’s deep rooted meaning against war which impacts many people throughout the world. She dis a great thing to write a book as such, brilliant penmanship and overall story teller.
*in other words the hunger games is not going to fill a void it’s going to make its own age and time where when the hunger games is finished, people are going to say ‘we never filled in the Harry potter gap and now we have the hunger game gap; where did all the good stories go!’ kind of thing, make sense?
Harry Potter is an entire genre itself. The Hunger Games may be my favorite book series in the entire world, but I will always hold a special place for Harry Potter which I too will indeed share with my children, and please don’t ever compare The Hunger Games and Harry Potter to Twilight…EVER!!
Just like a lot of other people, I love love love Hunger Games, but Harry Potter is something that cannot be replaced.
At least I can reread them over and over…
I’m sad that it ends on Thursday
I think we shouldn’t compare, and let both film/book series be individual. I doubt the Hunger Games is TRYING to replace Harry Potter, and we should think of them differently, and not compare.
But anyways, if Harry Potter would be replaced, I don’t think it can as the hunger games only has three to four films, and we shouldn’t compare anyways, but that’s just me.
The Hunger Games and Harry Potter are two very different books so i dont think you can really compare the two. Yes they are both about teenagers and for teen reders but thats about the only thing they have in common, i love them both so much but i dont think that the Hunger Games movie will reach the hieghts that Harry Potter is, I just think that Harry Potter is more inspirational and knowledgable. but they are both FANTASTIC!
I think they have been smart though to place the Hunger Games movie just after the Harry Potter era ends that way the Harry Potter fans will flock to the Hunger Games Movie and there will be no contreversy about whether the Hunger Games and Harry Potter are in real competition with each other… I dont think anything will ever be able to replace Harry Potter but i think the Hunger games will become a thing of its own…
The Hunger Games will have its own era as did Harry Potter…
I don’t think anything could ever replace Harry Potter.
Well, at least for the fans (i know not everyone likes hp)
I am a huge potterhead myself and I recently pre-ordered this book nearly 200 pages long with letters from HP fans. The letters are about how HP has affected there lives.
And while I think The Hunger Games is a fantastic series with adoring fans, Harry Potter is and will always be a lifestyle for the many fans.
Here is a link for HP fans who are interested in the book I was talking about:

I have never been able to read the Harry Potter books! They just never appealed to me! And I have tried to watch the first movie, burning can never finish it! I agree Rose because they are completely different from each other!!! Hunger Games is about survival and romance, where as Harry Potter and Twilight are mythical creatures!!! You can’t say that Hunger Games won’t be able to fill the void of Harry Potter because they aren’t te same thing! because personally I don’t think they were trying to compete with Harry Potter…
I am hoping so badly that this movie will be a success. These are my favorite books in the
world, and I would hat to see them ruined!!!!
Harry Potter has been a part of my life since 4th grade and I have had it in my life for awhile. Though I love the Hunger Games HP will never have a ‘void’ in my heart. Though Hunger Games has come in harry potter’s space cannot be filled. Twilight never had a big impact on me and I found that it hasn’t left it’s mark like Harry Potter has. while Hunger Games is not like HP I will never have a void for either one.
I must agree Hunger Games will be around for a long long time but it will take a LOT to create another Harry Potter.
I don’t know if I made it clear but I was saying how HP and HG will never leave me entirely
I was in kindergarden when the first movie came out and was begging my mom to let me go see it. Of course I didn’t read the books since I was six, but I loved the movies. Every time there is a Harry Potter weekend I have to watch it. I do like the Hunger Games a lot, but I just don’t think it could measure up to 10 years of Harry Potter.
YESSSSSSS it will why you might ask? because one good thing follows another!!!! the harry potter seiries were amazing and the new hg seiries will be just as good or maybe even beeter!!!! woops i mean better
I am the most obsessed in this world over hunger games.
Everything I hear Relates the Hunger Games.
And any one who knows me will be so confused when I say Harry Potter is better.
But I have not read HP so HUNGER GSMES IS BETTER!
But the Movie will be better and book has a little chance of being better. The Hunger Games is one thing I will never Forget. I will always have random giddyness when I read them and even though I have read them about14 times, I still get scared during them for Katniss and Rue and Prim.
255 days! And HP please don’t hate me!
I love the Hunger Games, flipping ADORE the series, but how can some of you say that Harry Potter has no real meaning behind it or doesn’t have a deep message like The Hunger Games does?
If you’ve read the books, or heck, even seen the movies you will see that it deals with things that the Hunger Games tackles and even more! (ie. prejudice, war, slavery, rebellion, love, death, family, friendship, politics, truth, trust, etc…)
I’m just saying, you are allowed to not be a fan of Harry Potter, but don’t go around making claims on what the books entail unless you actually can back those claims.
I have never actually really had the time to read Harry potter but it sounds good. But The Hunger Games is my most favoritest book n the whole entire universe!!!!!!!
I think The Hunger Games would be as big as HP if more books had come out. Although it’s a really good series, Harry Potter is just a bit better than The Hunger Games!
collins needs to make more books about the hunger games and maybe even put a twist on what happens in the future of ppeta and katniss. but i do think that the hunger games will take harry potters place because as i had already said one good thing follows another. i dont think that harry potter was bad as some of yall r sayong i think they ar amazing. now its hg’s time to shine!!!!!! and trust me i will be buying evey hunger games movie and watching it over and over and over just like i am doing with the books!!!!
I am pretty sure that the Hunger Games WILL fill the Harry Potter void. I know this because I LOVE both books equally, but I’m beginning to take even more liking for the HG after reading the series twice.
ok, i love the hunger games…but as a diehard Potter fan i definitly DO NOT think the Hunger Games will fill the void. I’m very sorry to say this but Harry Potter is so much better and I don’t feel like it could EVER be replaced. I’m going to the midnight premiere tonight and I know that I will cry my eyes out. Harry Potter was my childhood. I feel like Harry Potter is better because it’s so…believeable. While the Hunger Games is too it’s not as much. J.K. Rowling is a very very gifted author and I can’t stand when people insult her work. Suzanne is gifted as well but…ok…so I don’t know what I’m trying to say here…
I did cry when Prim and Finnick died, a lot actually…and if you can move readers that much then yes, you are gifted, you have done your job. So while Suzanne and Joanne have bot done their jobs well…I still don’t see anything filling Harry’s place for a VERY long time.
Harry Potter is awesome, but the Hunger Games will be extrodinary. I mean look at the books, I think the hunger games movie will seak volumes…. The Hunger Games will be more of a thrilling movie that touches your heart and makes you feel something more… It will leave people thinking about life and survival and how important they are… People will think about the hunger games movie for generations. And yes I know, I know you think that I’m just a stupid 12 year old who is obsessed with The Hunger Games books but it’s actually not that at all, Harry Potter was really good but The Hunger Games makes you feel for them and make you want to fight against the Capitol with them… I think you should all think about that…
uhmm, i wish the movie, would be blockbuster
i think the hunger games is cannot be compared to harry potter…
harry potter is very great and long fantasy novel, known by billions of people around the world…
but i can say i’ve never been interested with harry potter, movies nor books…like in hunger games where i scream, i jumped for joy, i cry, i slept late at night thingking of… etc
it depends on the person’s appreciation of the movie
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I’m sorry, but NO. Even though I love the hunger games, definitely not. Harry Potter really is an Epic saga and the hunger games is a well-known, great book trilogy. I’m sorry, but nothing can amount to it.
I haven’t read Harry Potter but I wish people will stop comparing hg to other stuff. It’s definetly it’s own, never seen anything like it
I am so sad that the harry potter movies have come to an end. I was sad when I finished reading the books but its even worse with being done with the movies. I mean it used to be so what I’m done with the series there’s always the next movie coming out I mean it’s not over. Well it’s not like that any more is it. I mean it’s like Harry Potter is done like forever there is no way around it and it makes me very sad.:( It’s a good thing there making a Hunger Games movie to fill the void since there’s no more Harry Potter. I can’t wait till the movie.
and go Peeta. :p
two words forever potter
