VIDEO: Could Zac Efron Be Finnick Odair in Catching Fire?
Zac Efron is one of the many names being offered up to play Finnick Odair in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. So MTV went straight to the actor himself to ask him his thoughts on the potential casting.
When I told Zac that his name has been mentioned by fans in the same breath as Finnick, it was obvious he hadn’t heard anything about it, but he was also intrigued to hear that fans thought highly enough of him to be considered for the role. He also has some catching up to do because he admitted that he’s only read Suzanne’s first book so far.
“I have. I read the first book and really liked it,” Zac said when asked if he was at all familiar with dystopian story. “I’m about to go see the movie. I might go see it tonight. You can’t get tickets in L.A. I know it’s going to be an amazing film,” he said. “I’m very excited.”

Armie Hammer has got 2 be the best choice so far. He is charming in interviews, has the height, and most importantly, is not too well-known, but has the experience to show he can play vulnerable and caring.

NO. Zac Efron may be an excellent actor, but when I see him, all I think about is High School Musical. I don’t think Finnick Odair should break into song, he should be lethal, yet loveable.

Well you know Zac Efron IS an actor, and he does what actors do best: act. And throughout all his movies, if you haven’t watched them, he does an excellent job at acting in character. Charlie St. Cloud is so much different from High School Musical, and if you base it off of High School Musical, that’s what the director wanted him to act as. It’s like well since he acted in some Disney Channel movie production, that’s how he’ll always act. Plus did you not notice that Finnick becomes very helpful throughout the book? >__> Well that’s what I think.

Gosh. @ 1st I was thinking Armie Hammer, but Garrett Hedlund may be even better. In all of his roles that I know of, he been bad a**/manly & shown vulnerability (4 Brothers,Tron2,Friday Night Lights). Also, he would probably b cheaper & more of an unknown actor (which this franchise would probably want).

I don’t get the appeal of Zac Efron, and never will. He is a teeny bopper idol, not a real actor (yet! He may be in the future, but he has not done enough to distance himself from High School Musical just yet.) If you consider him, you might as well consider Justin Beiber.

Zac Efron is defintely not Finnick for me! I mean I’ll be able to deal with it if they cast him because I trust Gary Ross, but I just can’t see him as Finnick Odair. Just look at the characters he plays in High School Musical and 17 Again. He just doesn’t fit into that emotional role with this complex of a character. Honestly I’m hoping for someone like Chris Pine to be cast as Finnick, though I still trust anyone Gary picks.
For Finnick he’s got the good looks down, but I’m not sure he could do the sassy-sweetness of Finnick or the playboy part… Just thinking probably No on Zac Efron…

NO. he’s a terrible actor, whenever I watch a film of his I can’t stop feeling embarrassed at just how bad he is, I don’t care what you guys think but he just is. plus he’s too cheesy and “pretty boy” to play Finnick (I imagined finnick more hot and sexy and not “pretty”)
And i think everyone still sees Zac as Troy from HSM, so definitely not mature or strong enough to play someone who’s killed kids and stuff.
Seriously if Zac is picked I don’t even think I will bother to see the film cos he and all his stupid HSM fans will ruin it.

I think he would make a good Finnick. I’m sure Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and others will find maybe a better actor that is more suiting… But I think he would be a good Finnick. Just because he was Troy from High School Musical, doesn’t mean he can’t pull it off. I mean HSM was such a long time ago, he probably grown since then.. I mean you can’t tell me that you’re the same person you were 5 or so years ago? If he grown in physical features (which he sure have) I’m positive he’s grown so much in being an actor as well. You can’t judge him if you can’t see fully what he can do. You can’t base him, on the kiddy movies he’s done.

YES!!! He has been my choice for a long time. When I read the book I pictured him or Chris Hemsworth. They are both amazing actors and I would love to see them both wield a trident. But Chris is Liam’s brother so that probably won’t work out. Zac is my #1 choice. He could totally pull off Finnick Odair!

Alex Pettyfer is very young– the same age as Jennifer Lawrence. That would just never work. It’s not specified how many years earlier, but since he won the games several years prior to Katniss and Peeta, he would probably be in his mid twenties, earliest. They’re going to need someone at least 26, 27ish– same goes for Johanna. Not to mention that Alex Pettyfer has been in nothing but terrible films. Just because he’s pretty and blonde doesn’t mean he should be in the film!

Finnick should be around 24 years old because he won the Hunger Games when he was fourteen years old. And i believe he won the 65th Hunger Games. which is ten years before the 75th Quarter Quell.

Daniel Radcliffe didn’t read Harry Potter till he got the part and he was the best Harry Potter we could have ever gotten just because Grant Gustin did read the Hunger Games book doesn’t mean he should play Finnick. There where thousands of boys who where fans of the Harry Potter books and they tried out and they didn’t get the role Daniel Radcliffe did. Benjamin Stone was an awesome but kicker from the show The Nine Lives of Chloe King and his role was just like Finnick. Benjamin Stone is the PERFECT Finnick!

Lachlan Buchanan has the look of Finnick Odair, but he’s a kid. He’s too, boyish. too young. Finnick is more mature than Katniss, much more behind him, was a Capital prostitute, his girl stolen from him and tortured, won the games back when her father was killed, he’s got to be at least 10 years older than Katniss and Peeta yet still look hot yet have a look of alot of pain somewhere deep inside. Very few actors can pull off that depth and yes, I can see Zac doing that but …ugh…he does not look like a beach dude! That picture of him shows good bod, but short black hair??? really?? he needs long fluffy blond locks, tanned skin, Zac looks more like a skier than a surfer but maybe he can redefine that.

Do I think that Zac Efron should play Finnick Odair? No. I don’t. And not just because he was in High School Musical or because he’s a teenage-girl hearthrob. I don’t think that he should play Finnick because he doesn’t have that flirty yet fearless charm that Finnick had in the book. Finnick is arrogant and selfless at the same time, and it takes some real skills for an actor to pull that off. I think that maybe Alex Pettyfer should play Finnick, but I know that there are other actors out there who could pull off playing Finnick Odair. Just not Zac Efron. Please.
When I read Catching Fire my mind pretty much said Finnick=Zac so throughout the series I imagined Zac Efron playing Finnick. I think he could do pretty well in this role. I was surprised when I googled it and came up with actual results though, I didn’t think anyone else would consider him for the role, but now that I know others see it to I totally want Zac to play Finnick.

i don’t think so. Not because I don’t like zac, but he just doesn’t fit the role. He’s not tall enough nor does he even have enough muscles. Remember, district 4 is a fishing district. The actor has to have a great physique because of this. Now, I know everyone is opposed to having rob pattison being finnick and so do I, but there an actor from twilight who could be a great finnick. I know we don’t want vampires in THG but just google his name (since he isn’t even one of the popular ones). His name is Kellen Lutz, and all he needs is the red/auburn hair and I think he makes a great finnick. I can picture him being seductive when I look at him google images, and let’s face it: he has a gorgeous body.
